“DISSOBEY” Screen Print by Dissizit x Obey Giant

“DISSOBEY” Screen Print by Dissizit x Obey Giant

Shepard Fairey and O.G. Slick are teaming up to produce this fantastic “DISSOBEY” screen print! The Blot loves these types of killer collabs between graffiti icons, but I am a little bummed there’s probably no chance I’ll be able to buy one. The print is inspired by a paster battle between Obey Giant and Dissizit over a prominently located electrical box near MOCA in 2011. As Slick explained, “Some may think the DISSOBEY collection was a diss on Obey. I see it more as celebration of the essence of street art.”

DISSOBEY by Shepard Fairey and Slick is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print. Limited to just 187 pieces, this epic collaboration will go on sale at a random time between 10am and 11am PST on Friday, February 13th, at the Obey Giant online store for $80.

Marvel x Obey Giant “Watch!” T-Shirt by Blair Campbell

Marvel Comics x Obey Giant The Watcher “Watch!” T-Shirt by Blair Campbell

Over the past two years Blair Campbell has really made his mark on many of the popular daily t-shirt websites with his awesome pop culture mash-up designs. His latest might be my all time favorite though! By combining Shepard Fairey’s signature Obey sticker with Marvel Comics' the Watcher, Blair’s designed a pretty awesome new t-shirt that can be worn by both comic book collectors and street art connoisseurs. Entitled “Watch!”, Blair’s replaced Obey’s now iconic Andre the Giant minimalistic stencil with that of the giant bald head of a Watcher. It’s hilarious and poignant all at the same time!

The Marvel x Obey Giant “Watch!” t-shirt by Blair Campbell can now be purchased through Blair’s Red Bubble online store in a variety of styles, colors and sizes starting at just $24.54.

Johnny Cupcakes x Banksy “Bakesy” T-Shirt

Johnny Cupcakes x Banksy “Bakesy” T-Shirt

The minute The Blot saw this Banksy inspired t-shirt by Johnny Cupcakes I knew I had to have it! I love the idea of taking Banksy’s signature Flower Thrower stencil into a baker chunking cupcakes, making “Bakesy” one of my top 5 favorite JC designs ever. Not surprising, these design has flown off the shelf and only a few select sizes remain. So if you want to add this street art inspired design to your closet, you’d better act fast!

The Banksy inspired Johnny Cupcakes t-shirt “Bakesy” is currently on sale at the Johnny Cupcakes online store for $35.99. The shirts are available in both men's and women’s styles, sizes S-3XL but some sizes are already sold out.

“FFB Posse” Obey Giant T-Shirt by Fur Face Boy

“FFB Posse” Obey Giant T-Shirt by Fur Face Boy

Now this is a design after The Blot’s own heart! Fur Face Boy has taken Shepard Fairey’s original “Andre The Giant Has A Posse” sticker, the image that started the OBEY Giant street art and viral marketing campaign, and turned Andre a little hairy! Honestly though, Fur Face Boy looks right at home replacing Andre in this classic image. I especially like the realistic look the Fur Face Boy has in this particular design…and at 5’ 9”, 134lbs I know no one’s going to want to mess with the FFB!

The Obey Giant inspired “FFB Posse” t-shirt can now be purchased at the Fur Face Boy online store for $24.99 (while supplies last). Get one while you still can because sizes are already selling out!

The Art in the Streets Graffiti Exhibit

The Blot is way behind on blogging due to my move last month, but I wanted to share with you some photos from my recent trip to the west coast. Aly and I traveled to Los Angeles over the 4th of July holiday weekend, and in between sightseeing and visiting family we took a little detour to the Museum of Contemporary Art to and its "Art in the Streets" exhibit, the first major U.S. museum exhibition of the history of graffiti and street art. And let me just tell you, it was amazing!!! You can check out some of my photos in the slideshow above, or click here to see some official photos on the MOCA website.

The exhibition traces the development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to the global movement it has become today, concentrating on key cities where a unique visual language or attitude has evolved. "The Art in the Streets" exhibit showcased installations by 50 of the most dynamic artists from the graffiti and street art community, including Fab 5 Freddy (New York), Lee Quiñones (New York), Futura (New York), Margaret Kilgallen (San Francisco), Swoon (New York), Shepard Fairey (Los Angeles), Os Gemeos (São Paulo), and JR (Paris).

I am so glad we were able to visit the MOCA while we were in Cali and see this incredible art show. Being able to see artwork and photographs from the 70s and 80s documenting the early years of the graffiti art scene in person was seriously mind blowing. Growing up in the deep south, I couldn’t get over the sketchbooks of graffiti legends I had previously only read about in magazines and the internet. While the exhibit closed yesterday, it now heads out east to the Brooklyn Museum, where it will be on view March 30–July 8, 2012. Catch it if you can!

STRANGEco x Obey Giant Mr. Spray Vinyl Figure by Shepard Fairey
The Blot literally squealed like a little girl when I got the email last night from STRANGEco announcing the release of the Mr. Spray vinyl figure by Shepard Fairey. The Blot had heard rumors of a Mr. Spray figure for the longest time, but after months of speculation I started to assume the figure had been scrapped. Boy was I wrong! New PaperMonster Solo Exhibition "PaperMonster Ate That Little Boy"

PaperMonster has a new solo exhibition opening July 2nd in Philadelphia, PA at the Vincent Michael Gallery entitled “PaperMonster Ate That Little Boy.” PaperMonster will be debuting over twenty new works of stencil art collages on canvas full of powerful portraits of women exploring themes of strength, fear, passion, and mystery. Several portraits are woven together with combinations of women and animals; each speaking to the strength, ferocity, and power that women carry within.

PaperMonster’s collage work within each painting allows the audience to develop their own perception and theories as to who these people are and what they hide. To coincide with his “PaperMonster Ate That Little Boy” exhibition, PaperMonster will also be having an artist talk on July 24th at the Vincent Michael Gallery from 2-4pm covering his thoughts on stencil art and the art world at large. Obey Giant - Keith Haring Canvas Print by Shepard Fairey

Legendary NYC street artist Keith Haring has been immortalized in Shepard Fairey’s trademark style, and while not perfect, The Blot really likes it. The Keith Haring Canvas Print is a nice mix of Shep’s stencil art with Haring’s graffiti, although I wouldn’t have minded more of Haring’s artwork in the background. Thankfully, Fairey at least included Haring’s Radiant Baby.

Obey Giant - Keith Haring Canvas Screen Print by Shepard Fairey
Growing up, Haring, along with Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, were the holy trinity of pop art to me, and their works continue to influence my pop culture identity today. Because of that, it’s really cool to see the styles of two influential pop artists from the 80’s and 00’s collide in this print.

The Keith Haring Canvas Print by Shepard Fairey is a signed and numbered 18”x 24″ screen print with an edition size of 450 prints. This print goes on sale today, Thursday, May 20th at a random time at the Obey Giant online store. A portion of all sales of this print will go to the Keith Haring Foundation and Photographer Patrick McMullan.

Gold Coin x PaperMonster T-Shirt

The Blot has no idea how I missed this awesome collaboration between San Francisco based clothing brand Gold Coin and New York stencil graffiti artist PaperMonster, but I’m glad I happened to notice it while checking out GC’s Holiday 2009 clothing line. The Blot was just looking at this cool crossbones t-shirt and thought to myself how the design inside the cross-bones looks just like some of PaperMonster’s killer paper collage artwork. Of course, if I had only taken the time to look at the shirt’s title I would have realized right away this was an official Gold Coin x PaperMonster t-shirt!

Gold Coin - Paper Monster White and Black T-Shirt
Gold Coin is only producing 500 black and 500 white of the limited edition PaperMonster t-shirts seen above, so if you want one act fast! Once these tees are gone, they’ll never be available again. DirtyPilot.com x PaperMonster Friends With Knives Stencil Art Show

OBEY Giant - Flower Vine Prints by Shepard Fairey

The Blot found out via Twitter yesterday that Obey Giant would be releasing its second print this week. The “Flower Vine” screen print, which will be released later today, comes in three colors, Black & Red, Black, and Red. I love Fairey’s pattern prints and the “Flower Vine” is no exception, especially when two of the flowers are replaced with the Obey/Andre the Giant has a Posse Star logo.

OBEY Giant - Obey Eye Print by Shepard Fairey

The Blot’s been waiting for a print like this from Mr. Fairey for a while now. “Obey Eye” harkens back to some of the classic Obey Giant propaganda prints/posters/pasters that made Andre the Giant Has A Posse, Fairey and Obey so popular in the first place. I can never get enough of Fairey’s faux propaganda artwork.

The “Obey Eye” screen print is 18 x 24 inches, comes signed and numbered by Shepard, and has an Edition Size of 450. “Obey Eye” will be $45 each and go on sale Tuesday, April 21st at random time at the OBEY Giant online store.

OBEY Giant 20 Year Retro Series Print Set by Shepard Fairey

This large format print series was created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the OBEY Giant street art campaign. The series was first released in February 2009, but only to a selected few for the opening of Shepard’s 20 Year Retrospective “Supply and Demand” at the ICA Boston. Shepard chose to revisit these images, from the 1998-2000 era, due to their popularity, but added a more refined look to them by replacing the OBEY orange with a metallic gold.

OBEY Giant 20 Year Retro Series Four Print Set by Shepard Fairey
The OBEY Giant 20 Year Retro fine art print series will go sale on April 2, 2009 at noon at the OBEY Giant online store. This four print series will initially go on sale only as a set, with a few individual prints sold separately later in the day. Each signed and numbered print is 29”x41” and has a limited edition run of 75 pieces. Each OBEY Giant 20 Year Retro Series four print set will sell for $2,000 with the remaining individual prints selling for $600 each.

Mr. Brainwash - The Chocolate Vandal Print

Mr. Brainwash already has a new print ready to go for release this Thursday. “The Chocolate Vandal” marks the third release in as many weeks for this mysterious street artist and it’s a good one. "The Chocolate Vandal" is based on Jean-Etienne Liotard's "The Chocolate Girl," originally painted in 1744, Brainwashed in 2009.

“The Chocolate Vandal” is a 22”x30” screen print on textured archival art paper and comes signed and numbered by MBW. This all new print has a limited edition of just 50 prints and will be available for sale Thursday, March 26th, at 12pm PST at Mr. Brainwash’s online store.

OBEY Giant - Israel/Palestine Print by Shepard Fairey

This Thursday OBEY Giant is releasing an all new print that The Blot is very excited about. It is entitled “Israel/Palestine,” so you can be sure Fairey is subtly trying to convey some sort of message about the strife taking place in the Middle East. I’m not exactly sure what Fairey’s message is on this subject since he hasn’t given any background information on this screen print’s inspiration, but that is part of its charm. “Israel/Palestine” leaves itself open to the viewer’s interpretation and the symbolism it conveys with contrasting red & white and red & black Obey fabric patterns on either side of a mysterious woman peeking out from between them.

OBEY Giant - Israel/Palestine Screen Print by Shepard Fairey
The “Israel/Palestine” screen print will be 18”x24” in size and will go on sale this Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Obey Giant online store at 12pm PST. Each signed and numbered “Israel/Palestine” will sell for $45 and the print will probably have an edition of around 450. In The Blot’s personal opinion this is one of the coolest OBEY Giant prints to be released in a while, and I will definitely be trying to get my hands on one. Of course like all OBEY Giant print this one should sell out extremely quickly, especially since the sale’s start time has been published.

Mr. Brainwash Prints - Jackson Pollock and 33rd St.

Elvis with AK-47 Print by Mr. BrainwashThe Blot is excited to highlight the work of one of my new favorite graffiti artists, Mr. Brainwash. As the story goes “Mr. Brainwash, or MBW, is the moniker of an eccentric French filmmaker who has spent the last nine years attempting to make the ultimate documentary about graffiti art. But whilst filming many of the world’s most renowned street artists at work, MBW began putting his camera aside and making art of his own.” (link) MBW has since created a unique style all his own which has transformed into an extremely popular urban street art campaign.

Obama Superman Print by Mr. BrainwashWhat’s great about Mr. Brainwash’s graffiti is that it “does not fit the stereotype of your average street vandal. His artistic process chiefly consists of throwing random modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven. The results are by turns profound, provocative and inspirational.” (link) Over the course of the next two weeks Mr. Brainwash is releasing two all new prints which I think many fans of The Blot Says… will enjoy.

First up is MBW’s “Jackson Pollock” print that of course features the famous American abstract expressionist artist. The “Jackson Pollock” print is a 22”x30” screen print which is individually hand finished and unique. Only 40 of the 50 limited edition hand signed and numbered prints will be available for sale on Wednesday, March 11th at the Mr. Brainwash online store. This print will retail for $250 and can be purchased here at around noon on the 11th.

Jackson Pollock Print by Mr. Brainwash
The second print, “33rd St,” is one of my favorites because its background features the street art of some very notable artists including Obey Giant’s Shepard Fairey and Andre. "33rd St" is a 22”x30” 15 color screen print on archival paper and is limited to an edition of 50. This hand signed and numbered print will be available at around noon on Wednesday, March 18th here and will retail for $175.

Obey Giant - Red Japanese Fabric Pattern Print Set by Shepard Fairey

As you may or may not have heard, Mr. Fairey was recently arrested for “an old graffiti charge from 2000 as the artist was on his way to the Institute of Contemporary Art in South Boston” for the opening night of his newest exhibit, Supply and Demand. (link) Fairey was released later that evening, and thankfully everything seems back to normal already. He’s even found time to produce a new OBEY Giant print! On Friday, February 13, 2009 OBEY will be releasing an all new red Japanese Fabric Pattern four print set.

Obey Giant - Japanese Fabric Pattern Print Set (Red) by Shepard Fairey
I think Fairey’s pattern print sets are always really stunning and well crafted, and this latest release is no exception. The Japanese Fabric Pattern Set (Red) is limited to a production run of just 100 sets and includes all four prints seen here (each print measures 18” x 18”). Each set of four prints will be $120 and sold on the OBEY Giant website. While the exact time this print set will go on sale is a mystery, for those persistent few Friday will be a very exciting day.

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak iTunes Exclusive Album Cover by Kaws

Today, Tuesday, November 25th, Kanye West’s hotly anticipated third album 808s & Heartbreak comes out today and everyone who purchases a copy of the album from iTunes will notice it has a special album cover featuring the artwork of New York street artist Kaws created exclusively for iTunes. While Kanye gets a lot of flack from many different groups for the things he says, I still love the guy and think his music is genius, which is one reason I’m heading down to my local Best Buy later today to pick up the album.

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak iTunes Exclusive Album Cover by KAWS
Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak Standard Album CoverUnfortunately, I won’t be able to get a hard copy of 808s & Heartbreak with the album cover featuring Kaws’ artwork. While the two versions of the album’s cover are not that different, it’s Kaws! While the general public may not be familiar with his incredible work, his street art and designer vinyl figures are some of the most sought after pieces in their respective industries. The guy is uber-creative and everything he releases either on his official internet store OrigianlFake or distributed by a third party retailer sells out immediately. But mark my words, one day I will finally get my hands on a Kaws Darth Vader vinyl figure.
