SDCC 2022 Exclusive Bear Wars Resin Figures & Painted Wood Panels by Magasco x Luke Chueh x DKE Toys x Deadly Prey Gallery

DKE Toys will be exhibiting at San Diego Comic Con 2022 again this year with a ton of fantastic resin figures and bootleg toys, including this amazing collab between Ghanaian movie poster artist Magasco and Luke Chueh curated by DKE Toys and Deadly Prey Gallery. For this release Magasco has recreated a number of iconic movie posters but incorporated Chueh’s beloved sad emo bear. A 3.75” resin emo bear was then attached to the 12”x9” painted wood panel transforming it into blister card packaging.

Luke Chueh went on to say, “I don’t know if I’ve ever said this, but I freaking love Ghanaian movie poster art. The “naive” art style, coupled with over the top violence speaks to me on so many different levels. Though the hand painted movie posters are no longer being used, the style and aesthetic are still very much alive, and Ghanaian artists are now being commissioned by collectors and fans”

Limited to 40 signed and numbered pieces, these Bear Wars paintings and resin figures can be purchased at the DKE Toys SDCC booth #2643 for $200. MondoCon 2019 Exclusive Jurassic Park “Ghanaian Mobile Cinema” Print by Salvation x Deadly Prey Gallery x Static Medium

Static Medium has partnered up with the one and only Deadly Prey Gallery to reproduce epic Jurassic Park movie poster by artist Salvation as both a MondoCon 2019 Exclusive Print (limited to just 25 pieces) and the original painting, which was painted on the back of flour sacks. Both will be available at Static Medium’s MondoCon 5 booth. This style of poster was once the product of a much larger industry known as the “Ghanaian Mobile Cinema”. This business started in the late 1980’s when artistic industrious groups of people formed video clubs. With a television, VCR, VHS tapes, and a portable generator they’d travel throughout Ghana setting up make-shift screening areas in villages void of electricity.

Mobile cinema operators found a need to set their products apart, so an advertising motif came into play. With no affordable access to printing, the hand-painted movie poster was the most logical advertising vehicle. Skilled local artists were now part of this growing entertainment industry in Ghana, and they surely brought their own distinct touch to each film they were called upon to promote. By sewing together two used flour sacks, a perfect sized canvas for a movie poster was created. Although the heyday of the “Ghanaian Mobile Cinema” is no longer, Deadly Prey Gallery continues to work with some original artists in Ghana to commission new posters. Deadly Prey ensures a majority of all sales goes directly to the artists in Ghana.
