Guzu Gallery presents Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes

Guzu Gallery presents Deep Cuts: 12

For Guzu Gallery’s newest group art show “Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes” they’ve asked over 20 artists to choose a beloved music icon, cult hero or legend and let his/her creativity spill to paper. There were, however, three conditions: (1) the artwork must be a screen print; (2) the artwork must be album cover size; and (3) the artwork must cost $25. Oh yeah, and (4) the artwork must kick ass!

The show is scheduled to coincide with spring break, which is always the best time of year in Austin. It’s when SXSW, one of the largest and most hotly anticipated music festivals on the planet, crashes head first into the Live Music Capital of the World. And what better time to celebrate our favorite music heroes than South by Southwest!?!

The opening reception will be Thursday, March 7th from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through April 7th. In classic Guzu style, there will be live music on opening night to shake the walls and rattle the art. But don’t fret if you can’t make the show’s opening, each limited edition screen print will be available in the Guzu Gallery online store on Sunday, March 10th at 3pm CST.

Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes features works by the following artists: Jason Chalker, Miguel Coronado III, Tim Doyle, Graham Erwin, M. Fersner, Matt Frank, Mauro Garza, Paul Hanley, Kachi, Scott Kinnebrew, Mark Lone, Yehudi Mercado, Danny Miller, David Moscati, New Flesh, Billy Perkins, Jesse Philips, Gary Pullin, Cody Schibi, Zach Taylor, Eric Torres, Vincent X. Torres, Nathan Walker and Robert Wilson IV.

Mountain Goats Survivors Choice 2012 West Coast Tour Posters by Robert Wilson IV

The Mountain Goats Survivors Choice 2012 West Coast Tour Concert Poster 1 by Rober Wilson IV

Last weekend The Blot got to meet the talented Robert Wilson IV at Space City Con 2012. I was first introduced to this Dallas artist’s work a few years ago when he designed a tour poster for Adam WarRock, which is still probably my favorite Adam WarRock gig poster. Robert had the two tour posters he designed for the Mountain Goats’ 2012 Survivors Choice West Coast Tour at his booth and I was blown away by both the screen prints’ intricate designs and colors.

Robert explained he was actually introduced to the Mountain Goats on Twitter, where they bonded over their mutual love of DC Comics’ Kamandi. Robert then used Kamandi’s theme of a post-apocalyptic future as inspiration when designing these two prints for the Mountain Goats recent west coast mini tour. Both prints proved so popular, they sold out just a few days into the Mountain Goat’s tour! Now the only way to get your hands on one is through the Nakatomi online store (Tim Doyle’s Nakatomi printed these posters for RW4 and the Mountain Goats).

Each Mountain Goats 2012 West Coast Tour Poster by Robert Wilson IV is an 18”x24” screen print with florescent pink ink, and comes signed and numbered by the artist. Each print has a limited edition run size of just 100 pieces, with only 25 available through Nakatomi. Pick one up here for just $30 while supplies last!
