Fantastic Four International Movie Posters

Fantastic Four International Theatrical One Sheet Movie Poster

If you can’t tell, The Blot is not very excited about 20th Century Fox’s upcoming live action Fantastic Four film that opens this weekend here in the US. I have a strong hunch it’s going to be terrible and do equally as bad at the box office. Seriously, is anyone excited about seeing this film!?! So far, the only good thing I’ve seen of Fantastic Four are these international theatrical one sheet movie posters.

The unofficial troubles behind the scenes got so bad that director Josh Trank is no longer directing an upcoming Star Wars film (or so the rumors say). All of this adds up to one disaster of a film. It sounds like we can all forgot any hopes you may have of an X-Men/Fantastic Four movie crossover. If the film does as bad as I expect 20th Century Fox may finally abandon its license rights to the franchise and let them revert to Marvel. Then again, that might just be my wishful thinking!

The A-Team Motion Picture First Look Pt. 2

Sadly, here is the “official” first look at the cast of the upcoming big screen remake of the beloved 80’s television show The A-Team. Looking at the photo below really saddens The Blot, because I have absolutely no faith in this film. Hasn’t the movie industry learned by now to stop pillaging our childhood? How many television properties from the 70s, 80s and 90s have they ruined!?! While the photoshopping of the film’s official cast photograph is horrible, at least 20th Century Fox did a good job casting and dressing this new and (doubtfully) improved A-Team.

(click on the photo above for a more detailed look)

The A-Team stars Liam Neeson as “Hannibal” Smith, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Sharlto Copley as Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson stars as Sgt. "B.A." Baracus. The A-Team, which is set to premiere on June 11, 2010, is directed by Joe Carnahan and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott.

The A-Team Motion Picture First Look

There are very few shows from the 80’s The Blot loves as much as The A-Team, which is why I am so horrified that the long rumored movie remake is finally happening. Has a movie based on television show ever worked and/or been successful? Off the top of my head I’d say an emphatic no, which is why I have some seriously grave misgivings about 20th Century Fox’s decision to go forward with this film. The A-Team's only saving grace is that it stars Liam Neeson as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith. Neeson is a true professional and one of the best actors working today, so at least he brings a little credibility to this ill advised re-imagining.

The photo above is courtesy of ComingSoon.net and is the first image of the all new, all different A-Team. (link) The movie stars Liam Neeson as “Hannibal” Smith, Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Sharlto Copley as Capt. "Howling Mad" Murdock and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson stars as Sgt. "B.A." Baracus (the role that made Mr. T a household name). The film is also rumored to star Jessica Biel as an Army general pursuing the team (and one of Face’s ex-lovers) and Patrick Wilson as a CIA operative. The A-Team is being directed by Joe Carnahan and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott.

The A-Team is currently scheduled to debut in theaters on June 11, 2010. I can’t wait to see if 20th Century Fox sticks with this date or pushes the film back due to its mediocrity.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Slashes Its Way To An $87 Million Opening Weekend

Despite concerns by 20th Century Fox over the leaking of an unfinished copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine just a few weeks ago, the prequel to Fox’s hugely successful X-Men franchise came up smelling like roses with a solid opening weekend. Not only did the Hugh Jackman starring film bring in $87 million domestically, it also made an additional $73 million internationally for a grand total $160 million worldwide gross. (link) Wolverine now boasts 20th Century Fox’s highest grossing opening weekend for a film released on a non-holiday weekend. When you take into consideration that the potential new franchise was “best by cyber-pirates, cranky critics and even the threat of a global pandemic,” the weekend tally ended up being quite remarkable. It’s amazing how quickly a movie can go from being considered one of the surefire blockbusters of the summer to a colossal flop. Less than a year ago fans were ecstatic to hear Jackman would be reprising his role as “the best there is at what he does,” but once the film leaked and the first reviews started coming in Wolverine became persona non grada. Even with the mildly negative press The Blot still wanted to see Wolverine this past weekend, but everyone else seemed uninterested in the film anymore. In fact, it was hard finding anyone excited about Wolverine’s impending opening. I think this lowering of expectations actually helped the movie, because by the time I saw Wolverine on Sunday afternoon the theater was packed and everyone seemed to have really enjoyed it.

I did have a few problems with the liberties the film took with Logan’s back story and the handling of one of comicdom’s favorite mutants, the merc with a mouth Deadpool, but the film did prove to be thoroughly entertaining. Even my girlfriend Aly (who doesn’t like comic books or their live action adaptations) liked Wolverine. In some ways it helps not knowing these characters “true” back stories. The worst part of film for me came at the very end, but I don’t want to spoil anything for those of you haven’t seen it yet.

If you want a humorous take on the ridiculous way X-Men Origins: Wolverine tied up one of its many loose ends to close the movie, head over to Matt Moylan’s Lil Formers for a great movie Wolverine webcomic. Moylan’s views of the film are very similar to my own, but he says much more succinctly. Whether you love or hate Fox’s take on Marvel’s merry mutant, after this past weekend it looks like we can expect many more X-Men and Wolverine films in the very near future. Next up, if all goes according to plan, is X-Men Origins: Magneto.

Watchmen Final Theatrical One Sheet Movie Poster

With news coming out that Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox have resolved their lawsuit over the distribution rights to the move adaptation of Watchmen, it is all but guaranteed now that Zack Snyder’s film will be allowed to debut in theaters on its scheduled release date of March 6, 2009. (link) It’s pretty amazing to think we’re just 5 weeks away from finally being able to see this much hyped and long talked about film.

Above is Watchmen’s final theatrical one sheet movie poster. It features all six of the film’s main characters: Rorschach, Ozymandias, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl II, Silk Spectre II and the Comedian. The poster is pretty standard, but I still can’t wait to watch this film in IMAX high definition. Here’s hoping Watchmen can live up to the high standards set by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ comic book miniseries (published by DC Comics).

Official X-Men Origins: Wolverine Trailer

The Blot has been waiting awhile to finally watch the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer that debuted in theaters a few weeks ago before The Day the Earth Stood Still. There had been some grainy bootlegged versions on YouTube, but I wanted to wait to watch a good copy of it. Thankfully 2oth Century Fox officially released X-Men Origins: Wolverine's trailer online today so I wouldn’t have to subject myself to sitting through The Day the Earth Stood Still. You can check the new trailer out at the movie’s official MySpace page or watch it here at The Blot Says… below:

To be honest, I had some reservations about how this movie would turn out. After hearing about all of the characters and different storylines they were going to include, it sounded like director Gavin Hood and star Hugh Jackman were trying to do too much. But after seeing this trailer all my reservations are gone. X-Men Origins: Wolverine looks freaking awesome.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine debuts on May 1, 2009.
