Meet MAD’s The ROWDY Gents, a rough and tumble gang who like to spend their nights out causing all kinds of mischief! Each “Gent” has a special skill set that keeps things interesting when they do find trouble. What’s really cool about this awesome new custom figure series by MAD is that each figure was created by mashing-up a few different vinyl toys to create a whole new look. While you see this type of kitbashing all the time with resin toys, it’s become a lost art in the world of vinyl figures. If you ask The Blot they turned out pretty epic!

“Sparkle Grin” Modern Hero Skull Resin Figure by MAD

MAD’s been randomly dropping some seriously awesome custom figures in his online store lately, and his latest surprise release is this blinged out custom 4.5” Modern Hero Skull! It features hand painted weathering with inked on tattoo details, and a smile you can't resist! Just look at all those diamonds (fake of course). This one of a kind “Sparkle Grin” Modern Hero Skull by MAD comes signed by the artist and can be yours now for $250.

“Astro Hero” Custom 5” MAD*L by MAD

MAD dropped his second surprise custom MAD*L in his online store this week, and it was this epic “Astro Hero” design!!! The Blot is seriously loving this mash-up of MAD’s signature creation, the Modern Hero, with Astro Boy. As MAD explained, “I do a lot of sketching in my book, and recently started taking some of those images and applying them to the MADL platform. I'm keeping them as simple black and white pieces, but trying to have fun adding lots of detail. As I complete them I'll be putting them up for grabs on the store.” The only question The Blot has is when will the next surprise custom Mad*l drop!?!

The “Astro Hero” MAD*L stands 5 inches tall and is a one of a kind hand painted custom vinyl figure. Packaged in a plastic bag with outer box packaging, both the figure and box come signed by MAD. This specific piece retailed for $150 at the MAD Toy Store, but is sadly now sold out.

Copper Metallic Modern Hero Vinyl Bank by MAD

At a random time today, MAD will be releasing this shiny Copper Metallic Edition Modern Hero Vinyl Bank exclusively via his webstore! It’s been a while since MAD dropped a new colorway of his massive 18” Modern Hero vinyl bank, but man has it been worth the wait. I love this metallic copper color, and it fits perfectly with the fact that the vinyl figure doubles as a coin bank for all the copper colored pennies in your pocket.

The Modern Hero Bank features a removable top hat with a coin slot underneath, an articulated neck, and a coin bank plug at the bottom. Only 30 Copper Metallic Modern Hero banks have been produced, and this giant figure can be purchased from MAD’s online store today, Friday, February 27th, for $150 each. The vinyl bank’s head turns left and right so you can even “pose” it, and each figure comes packaged in a big box with foam inside to protect it during shipping.

Yellow Modern Hero Vinyl Bank by MAD

MAD’s colossal 18” Modern Hero vinyl bank is finally getting a wider release! The first non-exclusive colorway is this shiny Yellow Edition Modern Hero vinyl bank, which features a removable top hat with a coin slot underneath, an articulated neck, and a coin bank plug at the bottom. These canary yellow vaults should be showing up in designer toy stores around the world soon, giving many fans their first opportunity to see this bad boy up close and personal! Only 30 Yellow Modern Hero banks have been produced, and they can be purchased in select stores soon for $150 each.

DCon Exclusive “Modern Heroes” Marvel Comics x Modern Hero Print Series by MAD

Last weekend at Designer Con 2014 MAD dropped this awesome set of “Modern Heroes” prints featuring a mash-up of MAD’s signature character, the Modern Hero, and Marvel’s The Avengers! This previously unannounced release is based on an epic series of paintings from MAD’s solo art show “Modern Heroes” that opened last month in Kansas City. Can The Blot just say how badly I want one of these Modern Hero x Marvel Comics paintings hanging on my walls!?!

The Designer Con 2014 Exclusive “Modern Heroes” Print Series includes four 17”x17” prints featuring the Modern Hero as Captain America, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk and the Silver Surfer. Only 10 of these sets have been produced and they were sold exclusively at MAD’s DCon booth #604 for $100. If any sets are still available, I assume they will show up after the convention in MAD’s online store.

DCon 14 Exclusive Skin Deep Modern Hero Custom Vinyl Bank by MAD

Along with all kinds of killer vinyl figures, MAD also took with him to Designer Con 2014 this one of a kind “Skin Deep” Modern Hero custom vinyl bank! Looks amazing, right? Skin Deep is one of MAD’s signature characters, and I love how he applied the character’s look to this massive 18” Modern Hero bank. Modern Hero 10” Custom Mad*ls by MAD to Debut at Designer Con 2014!

Check out these awesome new Modern Hero 10” Custom Mad*l vinyl figures MAD’s bringing with him to Designer Con 2014. Oh how The Blot loves me some Modern Hero! MAD has created two different colorways for their debut at DCon, there’s the OG Modern Hero on a white 10” Mad*l and the Masters of the Universe inspired Skeletor colorway on glow in the dark green vinyl. While these bad boys will only be on display at MAD’s DCon booth #604 this weekend, both will be available for pre-order. DCon 14 Exclusive Red Modern Hero Vinyl Bank by MAD x Fully Laced

The newest colorway of MAD’s massive 18” Modern Hero vinyl bank has been announced, and it’s this striking Fully Laced Exclusive Red Edition! Sold exclusively at Designer Con 2014, the Red Edition Modern Hero Bank features a removable top hat with a coin slot underneath, an articulated neck, and a coin bank plug at the bottom. Only 30 Red Modern Hero banks have been produced, and they can be purchased next week from Fully Laced’s DCon booth #727.

MAD*L Phase 4 Variant Colorway Set by MAD

For the first time ever MAD has created a variant colorway of each design in a wave of 5” MAD*L vinyl figures. How great is that!?! Just take my money now MAD! The MAD*L Phase 4 Variant Wave includes a Monochromatic Modern Hero, a White MAD Ape and a Blue MAEMAEMON. And what really makes this news great is these figures aren’t chase variants mixed in with the standard Phase 4 releases and sold blind box style. Instead, these three variant figures will be sold as a set exclusively at MadToyStore.com!

The MAD*L Phase 4 Variant Set goes on sale at 12pm CDT this Friday, May 30th, at MAD’s online store for $100 per set. Each MAD*L Phase 4 variant design is limited to just 100 figures, and is only available as part of this 3 piece set. So that means there’s just 100 signed and numbered sets available. Don’t sleep on this killer release!

Kidrobot Exclusive Green Modern Hero Vinyl Bank by MAD

The fifth colorway of MAD’s massive 18” Modern Hero vinyl bank drops next week and it’s the Kidrobot Exclusive Green Edition! This giant, functional vinyl figure will first be released at Kidrobot’s Boulder retail location during MAD and Scott Tolleson’s signing and release party next Friday, April 18th, from 6-8pm. The Blot assumes any remaining pieces will go up for sale after the event at Kidrobot.com for around $150 each.

The Kidrobot Exclusive Green Edition Modern Hero Bank by MAD features a removable top hat with a coin slot underneath, an articulated neck, and a coin bank plug at the bottom. I assume like all of the Modern Hero vinyl banks before it this edition will also be limited to just 30 pieces.

Clutter Exclusive Pink Modern Hero Vinyl Bank by MAD

The fourth colorway of MAD’s massive 18” Modern Hero vinyl bank is this heart-throbbingly lovely pink edition, which drops today just in time for Valentine’s Day! This Clutter Exclusive Pink Edition Modern Hero Bank features a removable top hat with a coin slot underneath, an articulated neck, and a coin bank plug at the bottom. Only 30 Pink Modern Hero banks have been produced, and they go on sale at noon EST today, February 14th, at the Clutter online store for $150 each.

MAD*L Phase 4 Vinyl Figures by MAD

It’s hard to believe, but 2014 is the 10 year anniversary of MAD’s MAD*L vinyl figure! In honor of this huge milestone MAD has big things in store for the MAD*L platform, including a new series of 5” figures. After teasing it for months, check out the official line up of MAD*L Phase 4: the Modern Hero, MAD Ape and MAEMAEMON! Each figure stands 5” tall, is limited to just 400 pieces and will retail for $35 each. These awesome figures will be showing up in designer toy stores worldwide soon, but in the meantime you can purchase all three Phase 4 MAD*Ls as a set for $100 at the MAD Toy Store.

The Modern Hero has appeared on a ton of my other toys, customs and artwork. For the MAD*L version, I wanted to step up the design to more than just a graphic treatment, so I included a removable top hat and of course his oversized Big Money chain.

MAD Ape is another design I’ve used over the years on other products and customs. Given how much people love the design I had to include it in the series.

MAEMAEMON is the newest addition to the series. This design was originally created by my daughter Mae. As with all the other ‘MONs in the MAD*L brand, it’s based on my kids. So when it came time to design her figure she jumped right in and started coming up with ideas.

White Modern Hero Vinyl Bank by MAD

In Modern Hero We Trust. 2013 sure does feel like the year of MAD’s Modern Hero, don’t you think!?! This year alone the Modern Hero has gotten three different figures released, including this giant 18” Modern Hero vinyl bank. After originally debuting in an all pink colorway, the Modern Hero bank returns this weekend in a sleek black colorway exclusive to Designer Con 2013. NYCC 13 Exclusive “Skele-Con” Modern Hero Vinyl Figure by MAD

What perfect timing, the day I wax poetic about MAD’s signature character Modern Hero is the same day myplasticheart announces the first colorway of MAD’s new Modern Hero vinyl figure! After appearing as a production colorway on over 5 different platforms, the Modern Hero finally gets his very own figure and it’s set to debut at New York Comic Con 2013! The Blot’s been waiting for this day for a really long time, and now I’ve just gotta put some toy money together to snag one of these NYCC exclusives.

At NYCC 2013 myplasticheart will be debuting MAD’s new Modern Hero figure with the Skele-con Edition, which features an epic color scheme that pays tribute the Masters of the Universe’s Skeletor (complete with glow in the dark head and accessory).
