J Dilla Vinyl Figure by Pay Jay

How freaking awesome is this officially licensed J Dilla vinyl figure!?! The Blot can’t even put into words how excited I was to learn this awesome tribute figure was finally available for pre-order. James Dewitt Yancey (aka J Dilla) was such an amazing talent, and I love that his impact on both hip hop and pop culture is still so evident. This J Dilla vinyl figure was conceived and rendered by Detroit artist Sintex, designed and sculpted by Seoul-based toy artist P2PL and was manufactured by Blitzway on behalf of Pay Jay Productions (which was founded by J Dilla) under the oversight of the Estate of James Yancey. Stussy even got in on the release by officially licensing its logo for the figure. This is a true collaboration, just like so many of J Dilla’s tracks!

The J DIlla vinyl figure stands 7.5″ tall, features 2 points of articulation (arms), and includes a hat, sampler and chain accessory. Limited to just 2,00 pieces, the “Stussy” Edition J Dilla vinyl figure is currently available for pre-order at the Rappcats online store for just $60. But act fast as this bad boy is almost sold out!

Marvel Comics x Stussy Collection Series 1

Last month The Blot blogged about Marvel Comics’ upcoming team-up with clothing brand Stussy. Well, the first release of that collaboration comes out this week, and the official line-up of the Marvel Comics x Stussy Clothing Collection Series 1 has finally been revealed! According to the official Stussy x Marvel website, “Stussy and Marvel Comics present a project featuring characters from the Marvel Universe that are transported into the Stussy world.” Whatever that means...is there really a Stussy world?

Series 1 includes 9 different t-shirt designs, which combine vintage Marvel characters with definitive Stussy designs. These styles feature images from rare and collectible comic books and posters, and include Marvel super heroes and villains such as Wolverine, Captain America, Silver Surfer, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Doctor Octopus and Doctor Doom.

Stussy x Marvel Clothing Collection Series 1 will be released on Wednesday, April 27th and can be purchased at Stussy.com, Stussy Chapter Stores and boutiques worldwide.

Marvel Comics x Stussy Clothing Collection

Is there anyone out there not doing a clothing collection with Marvel these days? Yesterday Stussy announced it was teaming up with Marvel Comics to release a line of limited edition t-shirts and headwear, which will merge classic characters from the Marvel universe with Stussy’s galaxy of iconic imagery.

Series 1, which will be released on April 27, 2011, will be a collection of tees and hats that fuse archival Marvel images with Stussy’s iconic graphic language. Scanned from the original comic books and rare collectors’ posters from the 1960s–1990s, the t-shirt designs capture the essence of the characters, the texture of vintage comic books and the soulfulness of the Stussy brand. Marvel x Stussy Series 1 will include limited edition t-shirts featuring Captain America, Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Silver Surfer and Wolverine. Surprisingly, there’s no Spider-Man, Iron Man or Thor on this list (or any female characters for that matter).

Series 2 will be released on May 6, 2011 and includes a collection of graphic tees and hats that feature new works of art by a pool of critically acclaimed international artists. Each artist was invited to revisit their childhood inspirations and interpret their favorite heroes and villains utilizing their signature styles. Marvel Comics x Stussy Series 2 will include art work by James Jarvis, Noah Eutkus, Mr. Cartoon, Todd James, John K., Gary Panter, Bill Plympton, David Shrigley and Will Sweeney.
