Lost Season 6 Official Cast Photos

This is it, The Blot’s final post of 2009! There are three things The Blot is really looking forward to in 2010: 1) My Wedding; 2) The 2010 BCS Championship featuring the Texas Longhorns and the Alabama Crimson Tide; and 3) Lost’s 6th and Final Season. Therefore, I thought it only appropriate we end 2009 on one of the aforementioned topics: LOST!

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Official Artwork by Shepard Fairey (OBEY Giant)

OBEY Giant’s Shepard Fairey was selected by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to create the official artwork for the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. (link) The artwork, “which brings together traditional GRAMMY iconography with Fairey's unique approach to design, will be used as the official artwork for the world's premier music event and will grace the cover of the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards program book, telecast tickets, promotional poster, and 2010 GRAMMY Nominees CD.” (link)

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards Official Artwork by Shepard Fairey of OBEY Giant
"Shepard Fairey is as much a music fan as he is an artist, and his piece captures the tradition and timelessness of the GRAMMYs, while bringing a fresh and contemporary perspective to represent our 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "The Academy is always looking for ways to engage the creative community, and commissioning the official GRAMMY show art is always a great opportunity to recognize how all creativity intersects."

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on Jan. 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, and will be broadcast live on the CBS at 8/7c.

The Blot vs. OBEY Giant

As long time readers of The Blot Says… know, The Blot’s a huge OBEY Giant / Shepard Fairey fan. You may have also noticed I haven’t really blogged much about Obey the past eight months. While I’ve wanted to a few times, I couldn’t bring myself to do it over the serious mixed feelings I now have towards Mr. Fairey. I know this is old news (Shepard admitted his wrongdoings on October 16, 2009), but I wanted to address it before I started blogging about upcoming Obey releases again and I didn’t want anyone to think I was glossing over the issue or condoning it.

OBEY Giant - Obama HOPE Print by Shepard Fairey
You see, the attorney in me just couldn’t get over the fact that not only did Shepard lie about the source material for his Obama HOPE image, but he also destroyed evidence to cover up those lies. (link) Fairey has had a long history of incorporating others’ work into his art, so the misappropriation of the AP photo didn’t bother me all that much. But for Fairey to lie about his actions and then actively try and conceal the truth by submitting false images and deleting other images takes his deceit to a whole other level.

The Blot Has A Posse
And that’s where I’m torn. As an art fan I still like Fairey’s work, but I have serious misgivings about the way he creates that very art which I admire. It’s a quandary I’ve struggled with the past year, but as we approach the dawn of 2010 I’ve decided it is time to forgive and forget. Therefore, I will resume blogging about Obey Giant / Shepard Fairey as of today. While I’m not sure a post like this was really needed, I think it’s helped me feel comfortable talking about the Obey Giant brand again.

What’s really been strange in all this is the realization that Fairey’s missteps have not deterred musicians and large organizations from continuing to commission work from Shep for posters, album covers and logos (see my very next post). Fairey has become a very controversial artist and his unique style is very recognizable. You would have thought his legal woes would be a deterrent, but in this day and age I guess not.

Kidrobot x Jeremyville The Love Bunny Plush

Kidrobot is about to release a brand new plush doll from the mind of Jeremyville, and The Blot thinks it’s probably going to be part of Aly’s upcoming Valentine’s Day present (like getting engaged wasn’t romantic enough!). As the KR ad says, you’ll never be a victim of unrequited affection ever again with The Love Bunny in your life.

Kidrobot x Jeremyville The Love Bunny Plush Figure
Artist Jeremyville’s super soft limited edition plush figure measures 16 inches from ears to feet, has embroidered freckles & eyes, appliqued hearts on his chest and feet, and retails for $29.95. The Love Bunny also comes with a full color, 8 page comic book by the artist. The Love Bunny will be available for purchase at select retailers, Kidrobot stores or Kidrobot.com starting late January 2010.

Dunny Fatale Blind Box Series

Kidrobot has finally made an official announcement concerning the release of their next 3 inch blind box series, Dunny Fatale! The Dunny Femme Fatale series features designs from 18 prominent and talented female artists. Some are cute and sweet while others are bold and cruel, but all are irresistible. Photos of the series leaked almost two months ago, so it’s nice to see Kidrobot finally acknowledge this awesome looking mini figure series.

Kidrobot - Dunny Fatale Blind Box Series Vinyl Figures by Alexandra Anderson, Aya Kakeda, Amanda Visell & Koralie
Each blind boxed 3” Dunny retails for $7.95, comes with a trading card and some include accessories. These Femme Fatale Dunnys start seducing collectors in late January at select retailers, Kidrobot stores and on Kidrobot.com.

Alyenz Blind Box Mini Figure Series

As you all know, The Blot is constantly on the lookout for the next great designer vinyl figure platform. So, I was really excited to receive a press release earlier this week announcing the launch of the new Alyenz blind box series by Buffalo Toyz, a newly formed designer toys division of well-known French label Attakus. Each Alyenz vinyl figure is 8 cm tall (a little over 3 inches) and will retail for around $10-15.

Alyenz is an all new platform with spicy, atomic, rustic, retro-futuristic or parodic designs, customized by some of Europe’s top fashion professionals and artists from the worlds of graphic design, comics, cinema and of course street art, as well as a few veterans of the vinyl scene. Alyenz offers for the first time a European vision of designer toys, associated with a desire of pointing out the most representative artists of contemporary creation.

The Wyger Vinyl Figure by Sam Flores

The Blot is a huge fan of Sam Flores’ art, so I was pretty excited to learn he would be releasing a second all new figure in honor of Upper Playground’s 10th Anniversary, the Wyger (the first figure was Flores’ Dragon Boy). The Wyger gets it's name from an amalgamation of a tiger and Upper Playground's iconic Walrus mascot.

Orange Wyger Vinyl Figure by Sam Flores
Standing nearly 10” tall, the Wyger features two protruding tusks, elegant gradient blends, descriptive tiger stripes and traditional Sam Flores elements, such as the figure’s over sized clutched hands and large Punchinella-esque covered feet. This OG orange Wyger is sure to be the first of many colorways released by Flores and UP.

The Wyger is limited to just 500 pieces and is currently available for pre-sale directly from Upper Playground here for $78.50. This limited edition designer vinyl figure comes packaged in a double sided window box featuring gold foil on the inside which doubles as a reflective mirror giving multiple views of Flores’ Wyger. Collectors can expect the orange Wyger to ship the 3rd week of January 2010.

Medicom x Disney Pinocchio Kubrick 2 Pack featuring Pinocchio & Jiminy Cricket

The second big Medicom x Disney release of 2010 is the Pinocchio Kubrick 2 pack featuring 100% Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket Kubrick vinyl figures. These two figures look awesome, but I do wish the Jiminy Cricket figure was a tiny bit smaller. From the pictures, Jiminy looks bigger than Pinocchio and that’s just wrong!

Medicom x Disney Pinocchio Kubrick 2 Pack - Pinocchio & Jiminy Cricket 100% Kubrick Vinyl Figures
This Medicom x Disney Pinocchio Kubrick 2 pack includes the two 100% Kubrick vinyl figures seen above and should hit store shelves sometime in May of 2010. The Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket Kubrick vinyl figures will retail as a set for $20-30.

Medicom x Disney Fantasia Kubrick 2 Pack

From what The Blot has seen and heard, it looks like Medicom has some awesome Disney products lined up for 2010! First up is the Medicom x Disney Fantasia Kubrick 2 pack featuring The Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey Mouse and a Walking Broomstick. Overall, The Blot’s not a huge Fantasia fan, but who doesn’t love The Sorcerer’s Apprentice? As a kid those walking broomsticks were so damn creepy!

Gold Coin x PaperMonster T-Shirt

The Blot has no idea how I missed this awesome collaboration between San Francisco based clothing brand Gold Coin and New York stencil graffiti artist PaperMonster, but I’m glad I happened to notice it while checking out GC’s Holiday 2009 clothing line. The Blot was just looking at this cool crossbones t-shirt and thought to myself how the design inside the cross-bones looks just like some of PaperMonster’s killer paper collage artwork. Of course, if I had only taken the time to look at the shirt’s title I would have realized right away this was an official Gold Coin x PaperMonster t-shirt!

Gold Coin - Paper Monster White and Black T-Shirt
Gold Coin is only producing 500 black and 500 white of the limited edition PaperMonster t-shirts seen above, so if you want one act fast! Once these tees are gone, they’ll never be available again. The Gold Coin x PaperMonster tee is available now in both black and white for $30 each at the Gold Coin online store.

Blue Lantern Hal Jordan Uni-Formz Colorway

The Blot doesn’t know what the deal is, but for the second time DC Direct has changed the variant colorways of its upcoming Green Lantern Uni-Formz vinyl figures. It’s almost like DC Direct doesn’t know how to handle good old Hal Jordan! The three original Green Lantern Uni-Formz colorways were supposed to be Modern, Metallic and Power Glow, but in April DC Direct to merge the Modern and Metallic colorways and add a Classic colorway, which features Jordan up in his Silver Age tank-top uniform. Now comes the news that DC Direct has decided to scrap the cool all green Power Glow figure for a Blackest Night tie-in: Blue Lantern Hal Jordan (see below).

DC Direct Uni-Formz Green Lantern Vinyl Figures - Blue Lantern Colorway
Now don’t get me wrong, I think the idea of tying in this Green Lantern release to Blackest Night, the crossover of the year, is a stroke of genius and will hopefully bring more interest in to DCD’s Uni-Formz platform. But I’m just sad to see the Power Glow construct colorway go. Besides, if you’re going to make a Blue Lantern Hal Jordan figure, don’t you also have to release versions featuring Jordan as a member of the other emotional spectrum corps?

Also, I haven’t seen the final product yet but as you may have noticed in the picture above, it looks like Blue Lantern Hal Jordan has a green power ring. Here’s hoping they’ve corrected that little detail before shipping out these awesome looking Blackest Night tie-in figures.

These limited-edition vinyl Uni-Formz Green Lantern vinyl figures each feature 12 points of articulation, stand approximately 8" tall and are packaged in a deluxe 4-color window box.

Blammoids! Series 3 PVC Mini Figures by DC Direct

This week DC Direct officially announced the upcoming release of Blammoids! Series 3. As previously announced, Blammoids! Series 3 includes Classic Batman, Robin, Two-Face, Catwoman, Cyborg and Wildcat.

Series 1 of these cute little chunky figures have yet to hit store shelves, so The Blot has no idea how much these little guys will sell for. While I kind of like these Blammoids! figures (even though most of them lack basic facial features), I’m really interesting in hearing other fans’ reactions, especially whether or not collectors like their diminutive size (2.5” to 4”).

Blammoids! Series 3 by DC Direct - Cyborg and Wildcat PVC Vinyl Mini Figures
Each Blammoids! Series 3 PVC mini figure features three points of articulation and comes packaged on a blister card. Blammoids! Series 3 is scheduled to go on sale on August 25, 2010.

DC Direct Blackest Night Black Lantern Mongul Deluxe Action Figure

And the Blackest Night actions figures just keep on coming! The Blot’s been super impressed with DC Direct’s line of Blackest Night figures so far, but the deluxe Black Lantern Mongul action figure is a big disappointment. As a character, I’ve really enjoyed Mongul’s part in the overall Blackest Night storyline, but this figure looks like just a weak repaint of a previously released toy.

DC Direct Blackest Night Series 5 - Black Lantern Mongul Deluxe Action Figure
DC Direct has set the bar so high with its previously released Black Lantern figures, I expect so more from a Black Lantern Mongul figure. Plus, shouldn’t he look like much more of a zombie? Maybe this figure is story accurate and I just don’t realize it yet, but either way it looks like they just slapped a Black Lantern logo on their previously released Mongul figure. I really hope this is just a preliminary mark-up and not the final product.

The DC Direct Blackest Night Black Lantern Mongul deluxe action figure comes packaged in a deluxe clamshell and is scheduled to go on sale August 4, 2010.

DC Direct Blackest Night Wave 5 Action Figures including Black Lantern Batman

It’s official, DC Direct’s Blackest Night Wave 5 includes some of The Blot’s favorite action figures of all time. Just look at each figure’s amazing details and "killer" accessories. I really hope DC Direct realizes the popularity of these figures, and decide to continue their Blackest Night line of action figures with at least one or two more waves.

DC Direct Blackest Night Series 5 - Black Lantern Hawkman Action Figure

To commemorate the release of The Simpson’s landmark 20th season, FOX has released the incredibly comprehensive cast poster seen below. The New MattyImposter Contest by Faker Matty

Are you a fan of toys and action figures? Do you hate when companies destroy their own social media? Then join the revolution by joining “Faker Matty” and the gang at MattyImpostor as they rail against the establishment (i.e. Mattel and MattyCollector.com). Faker Matty (like Masters of the Universe’s Faker a.k.a. Fake He-Man, get it?) skewers all the hilarity that is Mattel’s failing customer service at its new Facebook page www.facebook.com/RoyalImpostor.

Faker Matty the official mascot of MattyImposter
As an added bonus, Faker Matty is holding a contest in honor of its new Facebook Fan Page. Everyone now has the opportunity to win an original "Faker Matty" or "BrattyDeleter" watercolor painting by artist Ryan Hipp. To enter, just become a fan of MattyImposter and when it hits 100 fans, Faker Matty will hold two (2) random drawings to win an original parody watercolor. These watercolors will make the perfect addition to any collector's toy room as a constant reminder of your favorite bumbling toy company.

Mattel's Matty from MattyCollector.com vs. MattyImposter's BrattyDeleter
The Blot’s hoping to host an upcoming installment of "Ask Faker Matty," so be on the look out! In the meantime, go check out the first ever installment of “Ask Faker Matty” here at Toyriffic.

Transformers Mighty Muggs Wave 3 In Stores Now

In case for some strange reason you aren’t following The Blot on Twitter, I have some very exciting news: Transformers Mighty Muggs Wave 3 featuring Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime, ROTF Bumblebee, Shockwave & Jazz can now be found at Toys R Us locations (and possibly other select retailers) nationwide! Are you as shocked as I am these can be found in actual brick and mortar stores? After first learning about the Shockewave and Jazz Mighty Muggs almost a year ago, I can honeslty say I never thought Hasbro would give these figures a large release.

Transformers Mighty Muggs Wave 3 - Revenge of the Fallen Optimus Prime, Revenge of the Fallen Bumblebee, Shockwave & Jazz
I wasn’t sure if I was going to try and collect this wave or not, but once I saw the Shockwave Mighty Mugg in person I knew I had to have it. It’s all kinds of awesome. I love the figure’s paintjob, and his laser cannon turned out great. I haven't seen this reported anywhere yet, but after opening my Shockwave Mighty Mugg to the pictures seen below I noticed he has a "power cord" connecting his laser cannon to his back harkening to the character's look in the old Marvel comic books. How cool is that!?! It's little extra touches like that which make Mighty Muggs so great. Well done Hasbro!

Transformers Mighty Muggs Wave 3 retails for $11.99 at Toys R Us.

Kick-Ass Character Movie Posters Set 2 Part II

As promised, here is Part II of the second set of Kick-Ass character one sheet movie posters. The Blot loves the marketing campaign for this comic book adaptation, but who knows if it’ll be good or not. Anytime Nicolas Cage shows up in a film’s credits The Blot gets very nervous. Cage doesn’t exactly have a sterling track record of picking blockbusters these past few years.

The New Custom Toy Union Forums

Two very talented customizers, B.A.L.D. and Fuller, have just launched a brand new forum called the Custom Toy Union or CTU for short. It’s a free forum where painters, sculptors, artists and toy enthusiasts can get together to show off and discuss their own creations, get feedback, share tips and tricks, and just basically hang out. It is a site built by customizers for customizers.

The New Custom Toy Union Forums created by B.A.L.D. & Fuller
If you collect Mighty Muggs, you might recognize the names of B.A.L.D. and Fuller from their awesome customs on MuggLab.com and their donation of hand painted custom Mighty Muggs to last week’s MuggLab.com Fundraiser Series 1 auctions. Both are very talented artists, and The Blot suggests checking out their new forum www.customtoyunion.com.

Lost Underground Art Project at Gallery 1988 - Unpainted Custom Taweret Resin Statues
16 blank 8” resin Lost Taweret statues (also known as the mysterious “Four Toed Statue”) were created by hand in an original mold and given to some of The Blot’s favorite artists to customize in their own unique styles. These awesome Lost resin figures debuted at last Tuesday night’s Lost Underground Art Project at Gallery 1988, and the results were amazing! The Lost Showdown Series by Scott C.

One of the highlights of this week’s Lost Underground Art Project at Gallery 1988 was the 24 piece Lost Showdown series by Scott Campbell. Each Lost Showdown is a watercolor painting on 5” x 5” archival paper. The Blot’s a huge fan of Scott C.’s work, and I make it a point to read his webcomic Double Fine Action Comics on a weekly basis. If you love pop culture as much as The Blot, you’ll love Scott’s imaginative work!

Lost Underground Art Project at Gallery 1988 - The Lost Showdown Series 1 by Scott C.
I’ve been wanting to buy a Scott C. original for a while now, and when I heard he was going to be a part of the Lost Underground Art Project I thought my moment had finally come. Sadly, it didn’t happen as all of my favorite Lost Showdown pieces had already been sold! With 24 pieces it’s definitely hard to pick a favorite, but I’d have to say Echo vs. Smokey or Sawyer vs. Polar Bear are definitely up there as 1A and 1B.

If you’re interested in purchasing one of Scott C.’s Lost Showdown paintings, contact Gallery 1988 immediately at 323-937-7088 as only a few remain (if any)! Each Lost Showdown comes framed and sells for $350.

Lost Screen Print #16 - LOST by Tyler Stout

This is it, the 16th and final Lost screen print in the Lost Alternate Reality Game series released in honor of Lost: The Final Season. The print is entitled “LOST” and is by one of the most popular artists in the screen print genre, Tyler Stout. Some were concerned the print couldn’t possibly live up to the hype surrounding this ARG, especially after the huge build up to last night’s Lost Underground Art Project, but I think Stout blew all expectations out of the water! According to the Powers that Be, “LOST” includes two spoilers for the show’s upcoming 6th season, can anyone spot them!?!

Damon, Carlton and A Polar Bear Limited Edition Lost Screen Prints - LOST by Tyler Stout
Tyler Stout’s limited edition Lost screen print “LOST” is the largest Lost screen print to date, measuring an impressive 24”x35”. Like the previous 15 prints released on Damon, Carlton and a Polar Bear, “LOST” has a run size of 300 pieces and comes hand signed and numbered by the artist. This extra large Lost print will retail for $70 and go on sale later today here.

In celebration of LOST's final season and as a project of fan appreciation, 16 top designers and artists, who are also fans of the show, were commissioned to create artwork celebrating one of the series' most memorable, and unforgettable, "water cooler" moments. This ultimate "fan art" was then turned into labor intensive, hand-pulled screen prints, limited to an edition of just 300, with less than 200 available to the public through our websites. Each beautiful poster tells its own different story, allowing the fan to relive memorable and influential moments in an artistic manner, as the show's storied run comes to a close. Once this limited edition print has sold out, they will never be printed again. Celebrate the fandom, community and family created by one of televisions' greatest shows by hanging a little part of its history, inspiration and influence on your wall. (link)

The Lost Underground Art Project Opens Tonight

Everyone involved with the Lost Underground Art Project (opening tonight at Gallery 1988) has been so tightlipped, The Blot’s been unable to find out any additional details about the show other than what was announced on the event’s official flyer. Thankfully, the same can’t be said for the great art website Arrested Motion! Yesterday, AM debuted the beautiful Lost themed mixed media painting below created by Edwin Ushiro for the Lost Underground Art Project.

The Lost Underground Art Project - Unnamed Lost Mixed Media Painting by Edwin Ushiro
The unnamed piece above by Edwin Ushiro features Hurley, Sun, Sawyer, Jin, Michael, Jack, Sayid and Locke wondering through the island’s dense jungle in search of...something. After seeing this amazing Lost artwork, The Blot is even more excited for tonight’s opening. If only I could be there in person! According to the Gallery 1988 website, the entire exhibition will be put on its website after the show's opening (hopefully by Wednesday).
