Witchblade seems to have more lives than its primary hero, the wielder of the extraterrestrial weapon known as The Witchblade, Sara Pezzini. The Marc Silvestri comic book has been around now for over 10 years, and after a failed attempt at a live action television show starring Yancy Butler as Sara Pezzini, comes word that a live action feature film entitled
The Witchblade is in the works for a release in 2009.
While I’ve never really followed
Witchblade, I’m really impressed with the longevity of the book and the many different mediums the book’s characters have been adapted to. Along with the live action television show and movie,
Witchblade has also been re-imagined into a 2006 Anime television series and a line of Manga books. In a medium like comic books, which is predominately dominated by male characters, the staying power of
Witchblade and its two prominent female characters, Sara Pezzini and Danielle Baptiste, is impressive and speaks volumes as to the richness of the Witchblade universe.
