IKEA Art Event 2018 Designer Glass Figurines by Joe Ledbetter, Junko Mizuno, Michael Lau and More!

Today The Blot visited my local IKEA store to discover that the IKEA Art Event 2018 had hit Houston, Texas a few weeks earlier than advertised!!! The goal of this event is to “make art affordable for everyone while exploring the imaginative world connected to figurines.” For 2018’s Art event release, IKEA has teamed up with some of the biggest names in designer art toys – Joe Ledbetter, Junko Mizuno, Michael Lau, James Jarvis, Coarse, Nathan Jurevicius, Arkiv Vilmansa and Ludvig Löfgren – to create some amazing (and affordable) glass art figurines.

For the IKEA Art Event 2018, these eight artists were invited to the Målerås glass factory in southern Sweden to create contemporary glass figurines. Henrik Most, Creative Leader of this collection, explained, “we want to celebrate the amazing world of art collectibles and the imaginative universe connected to figurines, how they spark our fantasy, represent everyday and turn it upside down with fun and playfulness.”

While glass is a new material for many of the artists, IKEA was curious about how the different artists would apply their creativity, skill and knowledge to working with this unique substance. From a bunny to a, owl to fingers giving the peace sign, these detailed miniature glass sculptures have emerged from the imaginations of the contemporary urban artists. The IKEA Art Event 2018 will be available at all IKEA stores for a limited time for just $29.99 starting in April 2018 – but many stores already have these amazing designer glass figurines on store shelves now!

The IKEA Art Event 2018 Collection includes eight glass art multiples: a clear “Soul Toy” ghost by Michael Lau, a blue fox “Coarse” by Mark Landwehr and Sven Wasch, “Hira” by Arkiv Vilmansa, a green owl “Sutemos” by Nathan Jurevicius, the beautiful purple “Nocturnal” by Junko Mizuno, the “Evil Eye” by Ludvig Löfgren, a red “Bunny” by Joe Ledbetter, and a clear “Peace Sign” by James Jarvis.

DC Comics’ Shazam Teaser Movie Poster

So Warner Bros and DC Comics just released the very first teaser one sheet movie poster for their upcoming live action Captain Marvel film, Shazam! And I have to ask, is anyone actually excited for this film? I like Zachary Levi, and I loved him in Chuck, but is he really the right person to play Captain Marvel Shazam? I’ve seen the leaked on-set photos and his costume is just ridiculous. It’s so padded and still only makes him look half as big as the Big Red Cheese is depicted in Fawcett and DC comic books. I’ll still see the film, but I’m setting my expectations super low for this one. Rumor is The Rock’s Black Adam either isn’t even in the film or is going to have a very small roll. How is that possible!?!

Float Monoprint One of a Kind Screen Prints by Paul Kremer x Louis Buhl & Co.

Louis Buhl & Co. have just released three fantastic series of one of a kind screen prints by Houston based artist Paul Kremer, entitled Float Monoprints! Each Float Monoprint measures 30”x22”, was silkscreen printed by POP!NK, and features a unique combination of shape, ground, and water. Deckled, numbered and signed by the artist, all three one of a kind prints are now available at the Louis Buhl & Co. online store for $950 each.

As Louis Buhl & Co. explained, “Paul Kremer is increasingly known for his distinctly organic minimalist abstractions. Kremer uses traditional methods, working with fluid acrylics on raw canvas to achieve heavily formal compositions that are softened by the texture of their permeable support. Continuously evolving, the artist retains links in palette, formal cues and essentialist virtues. Avengers: Infinity War Cosbaby Mini Figure Series 1 by Hot Toys x Marvel

Hot Toys has unveiled an insane new line of Avengers: Infinity War Cosbaby mini figures based on the upcoming Marvel live action film! A film that unites the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe means the most diverse and all encompassing Marvel Cosbaby Series ever. The Avengers: Infinity War Cosbaby Series includes 9.5cm mini figures of Captain America, Black Widow, Black Panther, War Machine, Hulk, Loki, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Thor, Star-Lord, Groot and Rocket Raccoon.

There’s also an Avengers: Infinity War Collectible Set featuring seven Cosbaby 9.5cm vinyl figures in all, including Captain America, Black Widow, Black Panther, Hulk and Winter Soldier, and two miniature War Machine and Falcon Cosbaby figures available only as part of this set. These new miniature Marvel Cosbaby figures stand approximately 3.5 – 4cm tall!

Krypton TV Series Teaser Character Posters by Syfy x DC Comics

Tonight, March 21st, at 10/9c is the world premiere of the new live action DC Comics television show, Krypton, on the Syfy network! While a show about Superman’s grandfather and the golden age of Krypton sounds cool enough on its own, but what really puts this series over the top (and makes it a must watch for The Blot) is that it stars DC’s iconic b-list sci-fi super hero, Adam Strange!!! You know DC is killing it on TV when a character like Adam Strange is leading a new series on a new network. In anticipation of tonight’s series premiere, check out these cool Krypton television series one sheet teaser character posters featuring the four houses of the planet Krypton.

Official Krypton Synopsis: Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy). Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.

The Legend of Korra “Korra & Asami in the Spirit World” Statue by Mondo

Wow, The Blot honestly can’t believe this beautiful The Legend of Korra “Korra and Asami in the Spirit World” Statue by Mondo is finally available for pre-order!!! This killer statue was first unveiled at MondoCon 2 three years ago, and The Blot has been inundated with questions about it by diehard The Legend of Korra fans ever since I first posted a photo of it on Instagram. The Korra fanbase is definitely all in with this epic post-series release!

If you’re not familiar with The Legend of Korra, it was a Nickelodeon anime inspired animated television series that aired from 2012-2014 and was a direct sequel to the popular series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show ended in a beautiful moment when two friends, Korra and Asami, realizing they have stronger feelings for each other, decide to take a vacation into the Spirit World and enter the realm joined hand-in-hand. With this Korra and Asami in the Spirit World statue, Mondo imagines the couple several days into their trip, taking in the wonders of the land, while a friendly leaf spirit joins them in looking on with awe.
