The Beatles Yellow Submarine Pop! Rocks Series 2 by Funko

The Blot loves it when secondary characters get a little shine by being produced as action figures, statues, plush dolls, etc. So when Funko announced a second wave of The Beatles Yellow Submarine Pop! Rocks vinyl figures I was pretty shocked. Funko is revisiting The Beatles' hit 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine with two new Pop! figures of Captain Fred and the Yellow Submarine. Is this the first vehicle to be given the Pop! treatment!?! 

Funko’s most psychedelic series returns this summer with The Beatles Yellow Submarine Pop! Rocks Wave 2. Each figure stands 3.75", features one point of articulation and comes packaged in a full color displayable window box. Psy Gangnam Style Pop! Vinyl Figure by Funko

Gangnam Style, the hottest craze in the world of pop music, is now the hottest craze in Pop! vinyl figures too! The Blot doesn’t know how Funko jumped on the bandwagon of this insanely popular song so quickly, but timing is everything. Now collectors everywhere can add Psy and his catchy Gangnam Style song/dance to their toy shelves.

The World of POP! Vinyl Figures Volume 1 by Funko

Funko’s Pop! series is without a doubt the most diverse toy line in history, combining more licensed properties than I can even list here. Seriously, the line features super heroes, movie actors, musicians, Disney characters and everything in between! To commemorate this successful line of cute vinyl figures, Funko is releasing a hardcover book documenting all of their releases to date entitled “World of Pop! Volume 1”.

This artistic high-end coffee table book is a full color guide of each and every Funko Pop! released so far, including The Avengers, Elvis, Mickey Mouse, and LeBron James, with amazing photographs of Pop! vinyl figures in various settings and backgrounds. B&W The Beatles Pop! Rocks “Color Reject” Set by Funko

Any time I’m in the market for the rarest of the rare Funko releases, my first stop is always Gemini Collectibles. Sometimes I don’t even know what I’m looking for. The perfect example of that is this Black and White “Color Reject” Set of Funko’s The Beatles Pop! Rocks Yellow Submarine figures. I didn’t even know these existed!

According to Gemini Collectibles, these black and white figures were supposed to be a Gemini store exclusive. Originally, Funko was given the green light to produce these figures by the licenser and 10 sample sets were created. But before they were submitted to the licenser for approval, the licenser changed their mind and the project was scratched. 9 of these 10 sets are now available for purchase. Each box comes hand signed and numbered by Funko's Brian Mariotti on its bottom with the words "color reject" (which had to be written on the box).

This extremely rare Black and White “Color Reject” Beatles Pop! Rocks Yellow Submarine Set includes five figures: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and the Blue Meanie and can be purchased exclusively at the Gemini Collectibles online store for $1,375 (per set).

The Sex Pistols Pop! Rocks Vinyl Figures by Funko

It’s rare that The Blot gets totally taken by surprise with a release these days, but I honestly did not expect a line of Funko Pop! Rock vinyl figures featuring Sid Vicious, Johnny Rotten and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols! Funko continues to impress me with its all encompassing superstars of music toy line. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sex Pistols toys before, much less Sex Pistols toys in a line with the likes of Elvis, 2Pac and The Beatles. This is truly an all-star line up of music greats spanning all genres and time periods!

The Sex Pistols Pop! Rocks vinyl figures feature one point of articulation, stand 3.75” tall and come packaged in a full color displayable window box. Michael Jackson Pop! Rocks Vinyl Figures Wave 2 by Funko

Funko has announced a second wave of Michael Jackson Pop! Rocks vinyl figure and I know some hardcore fans of the King of Pop that are super excited about this release. There are two versions of Michael included in Wave 2, each featuring one of MJ’s signature looks. First up is “Bad” Michael featuring his buckle covered look from the Bad music video. The second figure, and The Blot’s personal favorite, features "Military Jacket" Michael rocking his signature sequined glove and jacket from his appearance at the 1984 Grammys.

Based on their looks in the hit 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine comes The Beatles Yellow Submarine Pop! Rocks vinyl figures by Funko! Along with cute, chunky versions of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr), this series of figures also includes the music hating creatures the Blue Meanies. The Blot’s always loved the psychedelic look of this animated film, and these Beatles Pop! figures do a great job of incorporating that look and feel without going overboard.

Late last week Funko announced it will be releasing an all new wave of Pop! Rocks vinyl figures featuring the King of Pop, Michael Jackson! Each figure features Michael in an outfit from one of his many hit music videos striking an all too familiar pose. The Michael Jackson Pop! Rocks Series includes “Beat It” Michael, “Billie Jean” Michael and “Smooth Criminal” Michael (all three classics in The Blot’s humble opinion). Here’s hoping “Thriller” and “Bad” Michael Jackson vinyl figures aren’t too far behind! What song would you like to see immortalized in vinyl?

Ok, admit it…you really want Funko’s newest Pop! Rocks vinyl figures of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.! What better way to immortalize two of hip-hop’s greatest artists and the rap game’s greatest rivalry than with these cute and chunky vinyl figures? Pop! Rocks Vinyl Figures Wave 3 by Funko - The Ramones & Public Enemy

Well it’s official, Pop! Rocks Wave 3 is coming this summer and the lineup includes Public Enemy (Chuck D and Flavor Flav) and legendary 1970's punk rock band The Ramones (Johnny Ramone and Dee Dee Ramone). There had been rumors for weeks that Wave 3 would include The Ramones, but The Blot is still in shock over their inclusion. I don’t know about you, but there’s just something really weird about seeing cute little toys of Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone! I'm really interested in hearing what long time fans of the punk rock band think about these Pop! vinyl figures.

Pop! Rocks Wave 3 by Funko, featuring The Ramones and Public Enemy, will hit store shelves sometime in June 2011 and retail for $9.99 each.

Public Enemy Pop! Rock Vinyl Figures

Funko is already working on its third wave of Pop! Rock vinyl figures and we now know Wave 3 will include cute little chunky versions of hip-hop legends Public Enemy. Unveiled for the first time last week at Toy Fair 2011, check out Funko’s POP! version of Flavor Flav and Chuck D. The Blot can’t believe it’s been 25 years since Public Enemy first debuted and changed music forever with their politically charged lyrics. What’s even more shocking is the fact that Chuck D and Flavor Flav are still relevant in the world of pop culture even after all this time.

Pop! Rock, Funko’s third line of Pop! Vinyl Figures, is definitely its most diverse, featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Famers from the 1950s until today! There’s definitely something for everyone in Waves 1 and 2 of this exciting new toy line, whether you like classic rock, reggae, heavy metal or hip-hop. My favorite of these figures has to be 1970’s Elvis in his trademark “Aloha” white eagle jumpsuit.

Now Kiss’ classic line-up has been immortalized as cute 3.75” vinyl figure in Funko’s new line of Pop! Rock toys.

Check out The Demon (Gene Simmons), The Starchild (Paul Stanley), The Spaceman (Ace Frehley) and The Catman (Peter Criss) as you’ve never seen them before, rounded and adorable.
