Michael Jackson “Thriller Werecat” Resin Figure by HamFX x Junk Fed

Michael Jackson “Thriller Werecat” Resin Figure by Tyler Ham of HamFX x Junk Fed

On November 30, 1982 Michael Jackson's Thriller was released. So it’s only fitting that on November 30, 2016, Tyler Ham and Junk Fed have released the Thriller Werercat resin figure. What a spooky coincidence! This awesome Michael Jackson inspired release was conceived, sculpted and kit-bashed by Tyler Ham of HamFX, and individually hand cast, painted, finished, and packaged on a custom blistercard by Junk Fed.

DCon Exclusive Alien vs Predator Resin Figure Set by Special Ed Toys

Designer Con 2015 Exclusive Alien vs Predator Resin Figure Set by Special Ed Toys - ET vs Michael Jackson

Special Ed Toys is releasing this hilarious Alien vs Predator resin figure set at Designer Con 2015, and I have a feeling it’s going to sell out very quickly! As opposed to the classic sci-fi killers, this set includes a slightly modified vintage ET toy and a complete resin Michael Jackson figure. Both figures are 3.75” scale, come hand cast and painted, and are packaged on full color retro blister cards. Limited to just 30 sets, these figures can be purchased at the DKE Toys DCon booth for $100.

As Special Ed Toys gave a cool explanation behind the creation of these figures: “They came into our lives in the 80s, “touching” us in ways we could never imagine. One from the stars and the other a big shining star on Earth. But as quickly as they touched our childhoods, they were gone. But now they're back...and they're coming after your fondest childhood memories and there's no telling who will win. Will it be the Reese's pieces peddling Alien or the Pretty Young Predator in disguise? One thing's for sure, no matter who wins, your childhood loses.”

Michael Jackson Pop! Rocks Vinyl Figures Wave 2 by Funko - “Bad” Michael

Funko has announced a second wave of Michael Jackson Pop! Rocks vinyl figure and I know some hardcore fans of the King of Pop that are super excited about this release. There are two versions of Michael included in Wave 2, each featuring one of MJ’s signature looks. First up is “Bad” Michael featuring his buckle covered look from the Bad music video. The second figure, and The Blot’s personal favorite, features "Military Jacket" Michael rocking his signature sequined glove and jacket from his appearance at the 1984 Grammys.

Late last week Funko announced it will be releasing an all new wave of Pop! Rocks vinyl figures featuring the King of Pop, Michael Jackson! Here’s hoping “Thriller” and “Bad” Michael Jackson vinyl figures aren’t too far behind! What song would you like to see immortalized in vinyl?

Michael Jackson Inspired Johnny Cupcakes “Big Kid Lycanthriller” Halloween T-Shirt

Michael Jackson “Thriller” Inspired Johnny Cupcakes “Big Kid Lycanthriller” Halloween T-Shirt

Every year Johnny Cupcakes releases killer Halloween t-shirts and the tradition continued on Saturday. As soon as the calendar struck October JC released its first batch of Halloween tees, including this awesome Michael Jackson tribute design. “Big Kid Lycanthriller” re-imagines Johnny Cupcakes’ mascot as MJ’s character from the “Thriller” video. The Blot would recognize that red and yellow Thriller letterman jacket anywhere! However, turning Big Kid into a zombie instead of a werewolf might have been more appropriate!

The Michael Jackson inspired Johnny Cupcakes t-shirt “Big Kid Lycanthriller” is currently on sale at the Johnny Cupcakes online store for $35.99. The shirt is available in both men’s and women’s styles, sizes S-XL (however it looks like all Men’s sizes are now sold out online).

Threadless - “Beat It” Michael Jackson Inspired T-Shirt

A few readers of The Blot Says… wrote in earlier this week asking why I hadn’t commented on the untimely death of the King of Pop. While I did post some of my thoughts on MJ’s passing on my Twitter page, I ultimately decided not to write about Michael Jackson’s death here on The Blot Says… because I felt (and still do) like the media coverage of this sad event has gone completely overboard and I didn’t want to add to that.

Beat It by Adam Benjamin White

With that being said, I thought it was a nice tribute by (and also a bit opportunistic of) Threadless to reprint its Michael Jackson inspired t-shirt Beat It. “Beat It” the song has always been The Blot’s favorite Michael Jackson songs and what child of the 80’s didn’t want to own one of MJ’s classic red leather zipper jackets? Well now you can in t-shirt form. Threadless has already sold out of a few sizes, but at $18 per shirt I have a feeling they will keep reprinting this tee for as long as demand is high. R.I.P. Michael Jackson, the King of Pop.

Happy 50th Birthday to the King of Pop

I cannot believe Michael Jackson is 50! Ok, strike that. I can’t believe Michael Jackson is only 50. It feels like the original MJ has been around forever, doesn’t it? While he may be creepy now, he had the type of talent we may never see again. And, while he may not be a hit maker anymore, from the early 90’s all the way back to the late 60’s with the Jackson 5, every song he touched was pure gold.

Michael Jackson
The Jackson 5iveHis personal life may have been in shamble from day one, but the guy could flat out perform day in and day out. For the longest time I was obsessed with everything the King of Pop produced, but now it’s become harder to separate the performer from the train wreck. Regardless, his mark on music and pop culture is undeniable and for that The Blot salutes him on his 50th birthday.

Rhymefest and the King of Pop

Rhymefest Logo
Blue Collar

While most of you probably don’t recognize the name Rhymefest, I am sure most of you have heard his work. Rhymefest co-wrote and won a Grammy for his work on the song “Jesus Walks” from Kanye West’s 2004 debut album The College Dropout. In 2006, he released his first album Blue Collar on J Records/Allido Records. The CD while underperforming in sales was truly a great album and Rhymefest is one the most gifted hip-hop artists to come around in a long time. It really surprises The Blot that Blue Collar did as poorly as it did considering how many great songs it had on it and guest appearances by Kanye West, Q-Tip, Mario and O.D.B. along with songs produced by Mark Ronson, Just Blaze and Kanye West. Many of you may recognize the name Mark Ronson from The Blot’s Favorite Albums of 2007. Ronson produced the hit records for Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen before releasing his own album, Version, last year. If you haven’t heard Blue Collar and are a fan of catchy, intellectual hip-hop you should pick up the album on iTunes. I think you will be happy you did.

Kanye West and Rhymefest
Mark Ronson Presents: Man In The MirrorI bring all of this up because Rhymefest dropped last week what is sure to be one of the best concept mix tapes of the still extremely young year. In anticipation of his latest album El Che, Rhymefest has released Mark Ronson Presents: Man In The Mirror, a Michael Jackson dedication album. Now I know what most of you are all thinking, who wants their name associated with Michael Jackson anymore? And I can’t quiet blame you for asking that, but the truth is the man’s The King of Pop and his music from the 60’s to the 90’s is still some of the best music around. With that being said I was pretty weary of the mix tape’s theme because most people that try to recreate or remix an artist of Jackson’s caliber usually aren’t that successful. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised and found that the mix tape wasn’t much of a recreation or a remix but really exactly what Rhymefest claimed it to be, a dedication album. It’s hard to explain but I enjoyed it and thought some of you might like it as well. The mix tape is free and you can download it here, but be aware it has a lot of expletive language in it:

Thriller: 25th Anniversary Edition

It seems like good timing for this mix tape’s release considering this year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of one of the greatest albums of all time, Thriller. If you hadn’t heard already, to mark the occasion Jackson is going to be rereleasing a 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller with six 2008 remixes of the most popular songs off of the album by some of the biggest names in pop music. I want to actually apologize to the biggest names in pop music here and now because that might have been exaggerating. Instead the album features Will.I.Am, Fergie and Akon and a remix by Kanye West. The songs have already been leaked on the internet and to no one’s surprise aren’t really that good. I’d think these “remixes” are a tad unnecessary and are going to be pretty dated five to ten years from now. Hopefully by then Fergie and Akon will have been wiped clean from the music landscape only to be remembered for their brief reign over the pop music. That being said, I’m a sucker for all things old school Michael Jackson and will probably have to pick up this 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller much like I purchased the Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection box set a few years ago.

RhymefestRhymefest talks about his mix tape and the new 25th Anniversary Edition of Thriller on his blog at his MySpace Page. You can read the entire entry here, but be aware it, like the mix tape, has some choice words in it. I thought I’d include some of his thoughts (edited of course) for you to read below:

This album was made because I am a fan of not only Michael Jackson, but of great music, in general. I have been listening [recently] to some of the remixes of MJ's 25th anniversary of THRILLER, and my analysis is that they're...aight...but personally, as a fan, I expected a bit more. I put my heart into this s**t and took a risk to bring you an edgy, creative, refreshing perspective of Michael Jackson in rare form.
