David Flores x Disney x Kidrobot Thumper Vinyl Figure Teaser Image

UPDATE: The Blot just found out that the new David Flores x Disney x Kidrobot Thumper Vinyl Figure will be coming out on October 22nd! I've also included a photo of Flores' original Thumper painting, which this new vinyl figure will be based on.

The Blot can't wait for this upcoming David Flores x Disney x Kidrobot vinyl figure collaboration. Even from this angle the Thumper figure looks awesome! This photo mysteriously showed up on Flores’ official blog yesterday and The Blot already needs to know more ASAP.

David Flores x Disney x Kidrobot Vinyl Figure Teaser Image
All we know for sure is what Flores put in his post’s caption: “THUMP thump...thump...shhhh! Kidrobot X DISNEY X DAVID FLORES. What could it be?” My guess is that it’s a Thumper Rabbit (from Bambi) vinyl figure (see the photo below for a better idea of what this new Thumper figure will look like).

The David Flores Thumper Painting the New David Flores x Disney x Kidrobot Thumper Vinyl Figure Is Based On
Flores' original Mickey Mouse vinyl figure is a classic, and I can't wait to see his take on another of Disney’s classic characters. Any guesses as to which Disney character will be getting the Flores treatment next? Maybe a Donald Duck figure (hint, hint)!

Kidrobot - Free 3 Inch White MAD Ape Dunny

Unbeknownst to The Blot, today is MAD Day at Kidrobot. To coincide with the release of MAD’s BoOoya Ghost mini series and MAD designed Kidrobot clothing line, KR will be giving away a super limited 3” White MAD Ape Dunny with the purchase of any apparel (and bandanas don’t count) at any of Kidrobot’s four stores (Miami, NY, LA, SF and Dallas) starting at 11 am today, Thursday, August 6th.

Kidrobot - Free 3 Inch White MAD Ape Dunny
The 3” White MAD Ape Dunny is limited to just 500 pieces and in order to get the Dunny, you have to actually ask the Kidrobot employee at the register for it. This is to weed out people who don’t actually know the promotion is taking place. The White MAD Ape Dunnys are limited to one dunny per person, so buying two hoodies does not entitle you to two White MAD Ape Dunnys. And, for those of you in the New York area, make sure you hit up Kidrobot New York for the MAD signing tonight starting at 6pm.

Kidrobot - BoOoya Ghost Mini Series by MAD

Kidrobot - BoOoya Ghosts Mini Series Vinyl Figure and Blind Box Packaging by MADIn a few hours Kidrobot will be releasing its newest vinyl mini figure series BoOoya Ghost designed by MAD, one of The Blot’s favorite artists. The BoOoya Ghost series features an undead collection of surly punks, freakishly evolved apes and belligerent boogeymen. What I really like about this new blind boxed series is that it combines a number of MAD’s most popular characters, like Sham da Clown and the MAD Ape, with this new ghost theme.

Kidrobot - BoOoya Ghosts Mini Series by MAD
There are fourteen figures in all, including two secret chases. Each BoOoya Ghost is 2 inches tall and some figures even come with accessories. This new blind boxed series goes on sale today, August 6, at all Kidrobot stores, Kidrobot.com and select retailers worldwide. The BoOoya Ghost blind boxes have a suggested retail price of $7.95 and can be purchased online from the Kidrobot online store here.

kaNO X Lord Mesa Custom Ewok Kalua Moola Resin Figure

The folks at Argonaut Resin recently asked kaNO to do a one off custom of one of their newest figures, Kalua Moola by Lord Mesa. For those of you unfamiliar with Lord Mesa, he is a cool west coast Illustrator and new comer to the toy scene. kaNO is always channeling his inner Jedi, so you know he was going to have to do something Star Wars related. He has gone and turned Kalua Moola into one of the world’s most popular Ewoks, Wicket. This little guy would definitely look killer next to kaNO’s Boba-Def figure!

Argonaut Resin - kaNO X Lord Mesa Hand Painted Custom Ewok Kalua Moola Resin Figure
The kano x Lord Mesa hand painted, custom Ewok Kalua Moola resin figure is 4 inches tall and will go on sale tomorrow, August 5th, at the Argonaut Resins online store at 12/11c. If you are interested in learning more about Lord Mesa’s Kalua Moola resin figure, head over to the Argonaut Resin blog where there are a ton of pictures highlighting each of the figure’s many colorways.

Star Wars Ahsoka Mighty Muggs at The Empire Muggs Back Charity Auction

It seems like everyone has been anxiously awaiting news on the long rumored Ahsoka Mighty Mugg that showed up on the back of a few packages earlier this year. While The Blot doesn’t have any concrete information on the status of the Ahsoka Star Wars Mighty Muggs, I have a hunch the latest addition to The Empire Muggs Back charity auction has probably given us our answer.

The Empire Muggs Back - Custom Star Wars Mighty Muggs Charity Auction
There were two new custom Mighty Muggs added to the Star Wars charity auction website recently, and both were created by Hasbro employees. While the first one is nice, it’s the second one everyone should find extremely interesting as it is described as an Ahsoka unproduced prototype created by Chris Hicks, Hasbro’s Mighty Mugg Overlord. Now I don’t know if the release of this figure spells certain doom for a mass produced Ahsoka Mighty Mugg, but it certainly doesn’t look good for this popular Clone Wars character.

The Empire Muggs Back Charity Auction - Ahsoka Unproduced Prototype Mighty Mugg by Chris Hicks, Hasbro's Mighty Mugg Overlord
The Ahsoka unproduced prototype Mighty Mugg is currently up for auction here and, as of the time I am writing this, only going for $60. All proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish foundation, so big early and often!

Threadless - LightSaver Star Wars Themed T-Shirt

For a while there I thought Threadless had lost its edge. For months there wasn’t a single shirt I liked, but recently the company has produced some killer designs, including this week’s Star Wars themed release LightSaver. Now you too can own an eco-friendly lightsaver which replaces the Jedi’s traditional lightsaber blade with a compact fluorescent blade. What a great idea!

SDCC 09 - Upcoming Michael Lau x MINDstyle The Godfather Colorways

The Blot is almost finished recapping my San Diego Comic Con 2009 experience, but there are still a few more things I’ve got to talk about before I move on for good. One release I was really looking forward to at Comic-Con was Michael Lau’s The Godfather Marionette art toy collectible ("atc") vinyl figure. To be honest, I was planning on buying one before getting to San Diego, but once I saw the marionette figure in person I was turned off by the marionette strings and control bars.

Michael Lau x MINDstyle The Godfather Marionette Art Toy Collectible Vinyl Figure
Thankfully, MINDstyle unveiled rest of its The Godfather atc figures, which look pretty cool in person. My personal favorite is The Godfather classic version with chair, which is almost identical to the marionette version but without the marionette strings and cat. Also scheduled for release is a The Godfather Marionette figure in an all white tuxedo and, in a surprise announcement, a Horse Head figure which pays homage to one of the most famous scenes of all three The Godfather movies.

Michael Lau x MINDstyle The Godfather Horse Head Art Toy Collectible Vinyl Figure
No word yet on when these other The Godfather art toy collectible figures will go on sale, but the OG The Godfather Marionette colorway is on sale now here at the Vinyl Pulse online store for the retail price of $175.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - Down on the Street

This week on Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, we are treated to a behind-the-scenes episode that gives viewers a look at a common thread throughout all No Reservations episodes – street food. Oftentimes, Tony says the most enjoyable and authentic food in a country or village is what is sold by merchants from carts in outdoor markets or roadside stands. From local variations on the hot dog to unidentifiable fried meats, from sautéed insects to steaming bowls of noodles, these culinary treats are what keep Tony going on the road.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on the Travel Channel
There is no location Tony has visited that doesn’t have its version of mystery meat. From NYC’s dirty water dogs, to Mexico’s ‘wet tacos’ and squeaky guts on a stick in Hong Kong, Tony hasn’t met a form of mystery meat that he doesn’t enjoy. Over the course of this episode we will see Tony dine a number of different items including drum pan chicken in Jamaica, which is the favorite street food of the island nation that consists of peppered jerk chicken cooked in large drums over an open flame. In Vietnam, Tony is introduced to bun cha, a succulent combination of roast pork and noodles, prepared on sidewalk grills, and in Singapore he eats a variety of foods such as the famed chicken rice, boiled shark head, and bone soup.

One of the most special things about street food is the fact that it’s usually handmade. Dona Anastasia has been making hand-made blue corn tortillas on the streets of Mexico for years. In Hong Kong, there is an elderly man who has been pounding flour and water into exquisite noodles for generations. The combination of fresh ingredients and the passion for one’s craft make for something truly delicious. Sometimes the greatest pleasure can come from just a bowl of something good, whether it be a bowl of potato soup shared with an elderly woman in a Peruvian market or a steaming bowl of delicious pho at a Vietnamese marketplace, the greatest of pleasures can come from the simplest of things.

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations airs Monday nights at 10/9c on the Travel Channel.
