We All Wear Masks Solo Art Exhibition by Cody Schibi

This Friday, October 14th, is the opening reception for artist Cody Schibi’s new solo art exhibition “We All Wear Masks” at SprATX! The show, featuring all new artwork by Schibi, tells the story of 11 year old Edward who can't find that perfect, one-of-a-kind Halloween costume. He is spontaneously gifted a mask from his strange, reclusive neighbor, “Old Man” Baker.

When Edward puts the mask on and peers through the eyeholes, his sight is altered in a very odd manner. Instead of seeing the everyday “normal” smiles and friendly gestures of random people, he sees their true forms dripping with anxiety, awkwardness, depression, confusion, anger, sadness, fear, etc. Edward wonders why the majority of people cover their true selves, emotions and forms with fake appearances. After the mask begins to reveal people’s true character, he understands the desire for some to disguise themselves. But others he finds more beautiful without the masks which they hide behind.

In this exhibit, we see what Edward sees as he strips away the masks we all wear every day, which hide how we truly look and feel. Cody Schibi’s We All Wear Masks opening reception is from 7-10pm CST on Friday, October 14th, at SprATX in Austin, Texas. There will be all kinds of goodies at the opening reception, including cold beverages and music.

“There Are Two Of Me” Art Exhibit by Cody Schibi & Lance Schibi

This Friday, September 25th, the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum in Harlingen, TX will be hosting the opening reception for “There Are Two Of Me”, a new art exhibit featuring all new works by twin brothers Cody Schibi and Lance Schibi! The Blot has been a huge fan of Cody and Lance’s work for a while now, and I can’t wait to see what these super talented brothers have been working on. As a father of twins myself, The Blot is really interested in the themes of duality Cody and Lance have created within “There Are Two Of Me”.

“There Are Two Of Me” is the journey of one man as he chronicles his internal struggle with the belief that he and everyone else has a second identity. He becomes consumed with this thought & loses his real self within his other self, physically seeing his identical twin living out his own life. He communicates this belief in journals and paintings which will be on display.”

Cody and Lance Schibi’s “There Are Two Of Me” art exhibit will be on display at the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum from September 25th through November 15th. The opening reception on the 25th is free to the public and food and beverages will be provided. There will even be fun prizes given away as well! Cannibal! The Musical Screen Print by Cody Schibi

Each month (starting in July) The North Door and Trailer Space Records will be hosting a TROMA night in Austin, Texas featuring one band (curated by Trailer Space Records) and a sick Troma film to follow with matching movie screen print by Nakatomi Inc! The inaugural TROMA night is tonight, Tuesday, July 22nd, and will feature The Dead Space, Austin's best post punk trio followed by Cannibalism! The Musical and a matching movie poster by Cody Schibi. The Blot is a huge fan of Cody’s macabre style, which fits perfectly with Trey Parker’s hybrid western/horror black comedy.

“Cannibal! The Musical” by Cody Schibi is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print. Limited to only 100 pieces, this poster will first go on sale at the event with any remaining stock will be sold at the Nakatomi online store.

Strange Beasts 2: A Tribute to the King Group Art Show at Guzu Gallery

The time has come once again…Guzu Gallery has summoned the world's mightiest monsters for another kaiju art show! Join Guzu on March 28th and witness the spectacle that is Strange Beasts 2: A Tribute to the King. Those colossal creatures from the movie and TV screens of Japan are returning to Austin this spring with paying homage to the mighty Godzilla.

The opening reception will be on Friday, March 28th, from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through May 5th. Guzu will also be featuring a unique Godzilla toy exhibit from the personal collection of kaiju-enthusiast and comic book artist, Matt Frank! Guzu Gallery welcomes everyone to the show but if you can't make it out, the strange and beastly artwork will be available for purchase in their online store after the show opens.

This Halloween season Guzu Gallery treats you to an exhibition of a different breed. This time around they called upon two masters of modern horror to help conjure up the most frightening art show imaginable. The show’s opening reception will be tonight, Friday, October 18th, from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through November 25th. Cody Schibi’s Solo Art Show “Something In The Water”

One of The Blot’s favorite local Texas artists is the super talented Austin based Cody Schibi! I first met Cody a few years back at a local comic book convention and have enjoyed following his career ever since. Later this week Cody’s very first solo art show entitled “Something In The Water” is opening at the Harlingen Arts & Heritage Museum in Harlingen, TX. The show has a pretty cool theme, as it’s told from the point of view of Dr. Putare, a scientist studying the strange occurrences happening in the small, rural town of Hallow End. The show’s perfect for the Halloween season don’t you think???

Guzu Gallery presents Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes

For Guzu Gallery’s newest group art show “Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes” they’ve asked over 20 artists to choose a beloved music icon, cult hero or legend and let his/her creativity spill to paper. There were, however, three conditions: (1) the artwork must be a screen print; (2) the artwork must be album cover size; and (3) the artwork must cost $25. Oh yeah, and (4) the artwork must kick ass!

The show is scheduled to coincide with spring break, which is always the best time of year in Austin. It’s when SXSW, one of the largest and most hotly anticipated music festivals on the planet, crashes head first into the Live Music Capital of the World. And what better time to celebrate our favorite music heroes than South by Southwest!?! 

The opening reception will be Thursday, March 7th from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through April 7th. In classic Guzu style, there will be live music on opening night to shake the walls and rattle the art. But don’t fret if you can’t make the show’s opening, each limited edition screen print will be available in the Guzu Gallery online store on Sunday, March 10th at 3pm CST.
