Bernie Wrightson & Steve Niles Present "Something Spooky" Group Art Show at Guzu Gallery

This Halloween season Guzu Gallery treats you to an exhibition of a different breed. This time around they called upon two masters of modern horror to help conjure up the most frightening art show imaginable. Prepare to be astounded and amazed by morbid monsters, ghastly ghouls and cadaverous creeps tonight at Bernie Wrightson and Steve Niles Present “Something Spooky" Group Art Show at Guzu Gallery!!!

The show’s opening reception will be tonight, Friday, October 18th, from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through November 25th. As you've come to expect, Guzu will have live music on opening night to lift your spirits and raise your soul…or is that summon spirits and raise the dead? New Transformers Screen Prints by Kevin Tong, Laurent Durieux & Jesse Philips

If you thought the Acid Free Gallery’s Wizard World Philadelphia Exclusive Voltron screen print by Tom Whalen is awesome just wait til you see Acid Free Gallery’s WW Philadelphia Comic Con Exclusive Transformers screen prints produced in conjunction with Hasbro!!! Acid Free is seriously bringing their A game this weekend with three epic G1 Transformers prints by three super popular (and talented) artists. First up is “Dinobots” by Kevin Tong featuring the Grimlock and his team of fierce Autobot warriors!! This 36”x24” 7 color screen print with metallic inks has a limited edition run size of 175, comes hand numbered and will retail for $65.

Acid Free Gallery’s second Transformers release is “Soundwave” by Laurent Durieux, which features Decepticons Soundwave and Laserbeak. It is a 24”x36” 8 color screen print. The Standard Edition print has a limited edition run size of 275 pieces, comes numbered and will retail for $65 each, while the Soundwave Variant has a limited edition run size of 84 pieces, comes numbered, and will retail for $80.

Last, but certainly not least, is this killer “Starscream” 18”x24” 5 color screen print by Jesse Philips! The Standard Edition print has a limited edition run size of 100 pieces, comes numbered and will retail for $50 each, while the Starscream Variant has a limited edition run size of 55 pieces, comes numbered, and will retail for $60.

Guzu Gallery presents Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes

For Guzu Gallery’s newest group art show “Deep Cuts: 12" Tributes to Our Favorite Music Heroes” they’ve asked over 20 artists to choose a beloved music icon, cult hero or legend and let his/her creativity spill to paper. There were, however, three conditions: (1) the artwork must be a screen print; (2) the artwork must be album cover size; and (3) the artwork must cost $25. Oh yeah, and (4) the artwork must kick ass!

The show is scheduled to coincide with spring break, which is always the best time of year in Austin. It’s when SXSW, one of the largest and most hotly anticipated music festivals on the planet, crashes head first into the Live Music Capital of the World. And what better time to celebrate our favorite music heroes than South by Southwest!?! 

The opening reception will be Thursday, March 7th from 7 to 10pm and the artwork will remain up through April 7th. In classic Guzu style, there will be live music on opening night to shake the walls and rattle the art. But don’t fret if you can’t make the show’s opening, each limited edition screen print will be available in the Guzu Gallery online store on Sunday, March 10th at 3pm CST.

Megatron Transformers Screen Print by Jesse Philips

The next print in Acidfree Gallery’s killer Hasbro Screen Print Series goes on sale later today, and it’s this super detailed Megatron Transformers design by Jesse Philips! This print features the OG Transformers bad guy…Generation One Megatron in both robot form and as a Walther P38 gun (his original alternate mode). The Blot is all about this release, which will make a great companion piece to Kevin Tong’s Optimus Prime print.

Guzu Gallery presents Strange Beasts: A Tribute to the Japanese Kaiju Phenomenon Art Show

This Friday Austin’s Guzu Gallery will be hosting their first themed art show entitled “Strange Beasts: A Tribute to the Japanese Kaiju Phenomenon.” The show includes screen prints, original artwork and custom toys from artists both local and nationwide, and from the pieces The Blot’s seen so far this show is going to be pretty awesome!

A band of twenty rogue artists have been assembled to defeat…ahem, pay homage to…those mighty, mammoth monsters from the movie and TV screens of Japan. As we speak, kaiju are awakening all over the world…soon the invasion will begin at Guzu Gallery! The Strange Beats opening reception will be this Friday, November 30th, from 7-10pm and the artwork will remain up through the end of 2012. If you can't make it out to the gallery in Austin don’t worry, they will have a number of limited edition screen prints available via the Guzu Gallery online store beginning Saturday, December 1st, at noon CST.

Star Trek: TNG “I, Borg” Screen Print by Jesse Philips

Mondo’s newest Star Trek Screen Print Series is based on the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “I, Borg” and was designed by Jesse Philips. The print is a visual ode to the burgeoning individuality experienced by Third of Five/Hugh from the classic TNG episode "I, Borg". Jesse's unique style complements the nature of the episode, illustrating the connections Hugh has to the collective as well as the new relationships he develops while on board the Enterprise, which awaken the sense of identity suppressed by the collective. X-ray insets throughout the piece remind the viewer that there is flesh...a real heart at the center of the wires and machinery forced upon him by the Borg. The hard realization Picard eventually has to acknowledge at the end of the episode.

“I, Borg” by Jesse Philips is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print with a limited edition run size of 250 pieces. There is also a Metallic Variant Edition that has a run size of 80 pieces. The Standard Edition Star Trek: The Next Generation print will retail for $40 each, while the Metallic Variant Edition retails for $65. Both prints go on sale at a random time today, Friday, November 18th, at the Mondo online store.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Screen Print by Jesse Philips

Last night at an early screening of Transformers 3 at the Arclight Hollywood in Los Angeles, Mondo released an all new Transformers: Dark of the Moon poster by Jesse Philips. 3,000 copies of the green offset version of the TF3 poster were handed out exclusively to attendees of the special screening. For the rest of us, a special gold variant edition screen print will be sold by Mondo later today. This print is incredibly detailed, and I love the fact that it features Sentinel Prime instead of the more obvious choices (ala Optimus Prime or Bumblebee).

Transformers: Dark of the Moon by Jesse Philips is an 18”x36” screen print with gold metallic inks, has a limited edition run size of 240 pieces and will retail for $45 each. It will go on sale at the Mondo online store at a random time today, Wednesday, June 29th.
