Today, Mondo is releasing a reproduction of Bernie Wrightson’s beautiful cover artwork for DC Comics’ Swamp Thing #9 as a full size screen print! This is Mondo’s first Swamp Thing cover reproduction and they picked a pretty epic image if you ask The Blot.

Frankenstein “Despondence” Artist Edition Print by Bernie Wrightson x Nakatomi Inc.

The next release in Nakatomi’s ongoing Bernie Wrightson Artist Edition Print Series dropped yesterday and it is the hauntingly beautiful “Despondence”.  This image is from Wrightson’s masterwork – his illustrated adaptation of Shelley’s Frankenstein!  Reproduced from a scan of the original art board, provided by film director Frank Darabont, this is the closest anyone can come to owning the original piece.

“Despondence” by Bernie Wrightson is a 12”x18” hand numbered fine art giclee embossed in the bottom corner with Bernie’s distinctive “W”.  Although the original art board was drawn at 11”x16”, Nakatomi has given extra bleed on the sides of the piece to make this suitable for standard framing.  Limited to 300 pieces, this Frankenstein print can be purchased now at store.nakatomiinc.com/berniewrightsonsfrankenstein.aspx for just $50.  As always, the artist’s share of the proceeds from the sale of this print will go to Liz Wrightson.

Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein Puzzle Kickstarter by Nakatomi Launches Today!

Nakatomi’s newest officially licensed Bernie Wrightson project are these epic puzzles of this iconic artist’s Frankenstein artwork, which have launched exclusively today on Kickstarter (seen here). This project is to produce the first set in what Nakatomi is planning to be an ongoing Bernie Wrightson Puzzle Series, with new releases multiple times a year.

Each of these 1,000 piece Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein puzzles will be printed from high-resolution scans onto super-thick deluxe puzzle board stock, with a gloss coating so your puzzle will last for years through many builds. Each puzzle comes in a custom resealable collector’s box with a magnetic closure.

“…And I Shall Be With You On Your Wedding Night.” Screen Print by Bernie Wrightson x Nakatomi

Due to popular request, Nakatomi and the Wrightson Estate are releasing a limited edition screen print of Bernie Wrightson’s most famous and sought after piece, “…And I Shall Be With You On Your Wedding Night.” As Nakatomi explained, this piece “is a stunning achievement in the field of illustration, and Nakatomi is proud to release this Screen Print to the public. Reproduced from a scan of the original art board, provided by film director, Frank Darabont.”

The full detail of Bernie’s linework is staggering in person – crisp, immaculate line-work, showing a master illustrator in his element. In December of 2019, Nakatomi published an “Artist Edition” of this image, which was a reproduction of the original art board. This screen print edition of the image is a representation of how the work appeared as published in the original book, but at the size of the original art board.

Each copy is hand embossed in the corner with Wrightson’s distinctive “W” and features a spot-varnish layer on the main figures. Bernie Wrightson & Steve Niles Present "Something Spooky" Group Art Show at Guzu Gallery

This Halloween season Guzu Gallery treats you to an exhibition of a different breed. This time around they called upon two masters of modern horror to help conjure up the most frightening art show imaginable. Today Nakatomi will be releasing the final print in its popular Frankenstein Screen Print Series featuring the artwork of comic book legend Bernie Wrightson! Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein Screen Print “I Shall Be With You”

Tomorrow Nakatomi will be releasing the second print in its exciting new Frankenstein Screen Print Series featuring the artwork of comic book legend Bernie Wrightson! “I Shall Be With You” is the only double page spread in the entirety of Bernie’s original Illustrated Frankenstein book published back in 1983 from Marvel Comics. These high-quality screen print reproductions of Wrightson’s original pen and ink drawings from over 30 years ago would not be possible if it weren’t for his legion of fans who helped track down the original pieces that had been sold to collectors decades ago. A good chunk of these original pieces were actually in the collection of director Frank Darabont, who is not only a fan of Bernie’s but also employed Bernie’s staggering talents for his film, The Mist.

Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein Screen Print “A Filthy Process”

The Blot’s had the great opportunity to talk with Nakatomi’s Tim Doyle multiple times over the past few years, and the one thing that’s always shown through in chatting with him is Tim’s love of comic books. You can see that influence in his many screen prints as well. So it came as no surprise when Tim started producing screen prints by legendary Texas-based comic book artists such as James O'Barr and now…Bernie Wrightson!

Wrightson is a true legend who co-created Swamp Thing with Len Wein for DC Comics. His career has spanned over 4 decades, and his insane line work continues to inspire fellow artists and fans. Bernie has a long history with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and now his work will be immortalized forever in a new series of Frankenstein inspired screen prints by Wrightson and Nakatomi. What a freaking awesome collaboration!
