Shotpacked! by David Willis, The Blot’s favorite web comic about a toy store and the crazy people who work there, is releasing its third resin figurine with the good folks at Patch Together. After Willis’ popular Amber and Mike statues comes the Robin Desanto statue! Robin DeSanto isn't your ordinary toy store employee. When she was a toddler she was abducted by aliens and given special powers which augmented her strength, durability, and especially her speed.
Because of these powers, she worked for the government several years ago to fight the very aliens who abducted her! Oh, and she was also elected to a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. But seriously, she's mostly just a simple retail worker…who can run really fast and smells like Skittles.
The Robin Desanto Shortpacked! Statue is a 7” resin figure, and is currently available for pre-order through Patch Together’s online store here for $34.95. The preorder period for this figure ends on November 10, 2010, after that only a very small number of extra figures beyond the number preordered will be produced and sold for $39.95. The Blot’s favorite webcomic, Shortpacked! By David Willis, is about to release its second resin statute and I can’t wait to get my hands on one. Produced by Patch Together, the Mike Warner figurine was crated to be in scale with the original Amber O’Malley Shortpacked! statue and will include a matching base. I was a little worried the figure wouldn’t be able to accurately capture Mike’s crazy looking hair in 3D form, but the fine folks at Patch Together really did a great job.
The Mike Warner Shortpacked! Statue is a 7” resin figure and is currently available for pre-order through Patch Together’s online store here for 39.95. It’s my understanding the figure has already been shipped to Patch Together from the manufacture, but for some reason it has not met its advertised estimated shipping date of June 2010. Look for the Mike Warner statue to ship sometime soon, so get those pre-orders in now!

The Amber statue is the first of what The Blot hopes to be a full line of resin figures based on the cast of Shortpacked!, and is currently available for pre-order here for $39.95.
As any fan of Shortpacked! can attest, Amber’s weapon of choice is a corn popper push-toy, so no Amber figure would be complete without this classic pre-school toy. Best of all, it even comes with little balls floating in the corn popper push-toy’s translucent resin. How cool is that!?! I have to say, Willis and Patch Together did an excellent job taking a 2D character such as Amber and transforming her into a 3D resin figure.
This killer statue will only be available via preorder, and the preorder period for the Shortpacked! Amber statue ends on October 11, 2009. So if you’re interested in purchasing one make sure you get your order in before Oct. 11th, because once preorders are closed there will be no additional Amber statues produced. Also, Patch Together is estimating that the Shortpacked! Amber O’Malley statue will ship at the end of the year, and you will not be charged for the Shortpacked! resin figure until the statue becomes available. So go buy one today!
To be honest, The Blot had no idea that today, May 8, 2009, marked the 25th Anniversary of Transformers, one of my all time favorite toy lines/comic books/cartoons. While I’m a little late to the party, Shortpacked’s David Willis was all over it. Following the success of company crossover fighting games like Marvel vs. Capcom and X-Men vs. Street Fighter in the 90’s, it was only a matter of time until we saw another versus style arcade game finally developed. Now comes news that Midway and DC Comics are joining forces to bring the heroes of the DC Universe and the warriors of Mortal Kombat together for the very first time in the new Mortal Kombat vs. DC Comics video game.
As a child of the 90’s I can’t even begin to determine the amount of quarters I spent playing Mortal Kombat back in the day. There was nothing better than beating an opposite and then killing them with Mortal Kombat’s patented “Finishing Move.” And now to be able to control both Mortal Kombat and DC Comic characters in a versus style fighting game might just be the thing needed to finally motivate me to retire my PS2 and look into getting a PS3 or Xbox360.
According to News-a-rama.com, “there will be two different stories, one told from the side of MK, one from the side of DC, where each universe is invaded by the opposite universe’s characters. These stories will be told in a new version of the traditional single player campaign. The story will be used to balance the fights more evenly, and will do so using established mythology. For instance, the story will feature magic factors, to weaken Superman against a character like Sub-Zero.” (link)
Already confirmed in the game are Superman and Batman from DC and Sub-Zero and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. Be on the lookout for future confirmed characters and an official release date at WorldsCollide.com. There has been some serious mixed reactions to the announcement of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Comics, but my favorite commentary on it comes from David Willis’ Shortpacked!.
