OBEY Giant “Raise The Level (Peace)” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant “Raise The Level (Peace)” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

Today, OBEY Giant is releasing this beautiful new “Raise The Level (Peace)” screen print by Shepard Fairey! As Fairey explained, “This “Raise the Level (Peace)” print is based on one of my art pieces focused on peace and harmony included in my exhibition at the Straat Museum in Amsterdam. I have replicated many of the textures of the original art piece in the print and I’m very happy with the blend of the painterly and graphic in the print. The phrase “raise the level” encompasses various concepts including raising our level of effort toward diplomacy over conflict, raising awareness about the impacts of burning fossil fuels and the rising sea levels caused by global warming, and the need for immediate action to protect the Earth.”

“Raise The Level (Peace)” by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper. Limited to 550 pieces, it will go on sale at 10am PT on Thursday, August 31st, at Store.ObeyGiant.com for $75.

“Modular” OBEY Giant Art Print by ADD FUEL x Shepard Fairey

“Modular” OBEY Giant Art Print by ADD FUEL x Shepard Fairey

Check out this amazing print collab between OBEY Giant’s Shepard Fairey and ADD FUEL entitled “Modular”! The print commemorates ADD FUEL’s solo art show “Youth Eternal”, which opened last weekend at Fairey’s gallery, Subliminal Projects. As Shepard explained, “ADD FUEL’s art functions on several levels literally and metaphorically. His pieces master the aesthetics of traditional Portuguese tile work while adding his own playful character illustrations subversively woven into the designs. These two seemingly disparate styles are so elegantly blended together that discovering the oddity within the harmony is both bizarre and joyful.”

“The actual and faux rips ADD FUEL incorporates into his art are more than just a nod to paper, the common material of modern street art, they’re also a provocative bit of visual dissonance since tiles don’t rip. Despite the incongruity of tiles and rips, ADD FUEL’s visually seductive compositions evoke a sense of time passed and a story behind each layer.” – Shepard

“Modular” by ADD FUEL x Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” numbered screen print on thick pure white paper signed by both artists.  Limited to 500 pieces, this new art print goes on sale at 10am PT on Thursday, November 17th, at Store.ObeyGiant.com for $115. Each print comes with a Digital Certificate of Authenticity provided by Verisart.

Moonage Daydream Screen Print by Shepard Fairey of OBEY Giant x Mondo

Moonage Daydream Screen Print by Shepard Fairey of OBEY Giant x Mondo

Mondo is celebrating the Digital/Blu-Ray release of Brett Morgan’s Moonage Daydream, an absolutely incredible David Bowie documentary, by releasing this fantastic new screen print by OBEY Giant’s Shepard Fairey! As Mondo explained, “It’s been over six years since we last collaborated with Shepard, and every time we do, it’s a career highlight for all of us.” Moonage Daydream by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” hand numbered 5 color timed edition screen print. It is available now through 11:59am CT on Friday, November 18th, at MondoShop.com for $60.

“David Bowie is one of my favorite musicians not only because so many of his songs possess magic, but also because he was creatively fearless and perpetually collaborative. Ziggy Stardust is one of my favorite albums ever. It makes sense that it was Bowie’s breakthrough album, not just because his newly adopted androgynous glam image was provocative and mesmerizing, but because the songs on the album are incredible! For this Moonage Daydream print image, I was able to reference outtakes from the Ziggy cover shoot, one of which I thought, with a few artistic liberties taken, could become a great portrait illustration. Bowie was incredibly photogenic, which yielded so many glorious images of him, and makes it a challenge to create a new visage that stands with the rest of his most iconic portraits. It is very meaningful for me to have the opportunity to craft my articulation of one of my favorite artists ever, from possibly the era of his peak creative genius.” – Shepard Fairey

“Beto For All Of Us” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey (OBEY Giant) x Beto O’Rourke

“Beto For All Of Us” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey (OBEY Giant) x Beto O’Rourke

The Blot was fascinated to learn that Shepard Fairey of OBEY Giant fame had dipped his toe back into the world of election campaigns with a new poster for Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic nominee for Governor of Texas. As you probably remember, Fairey’s similar poster for President Barack Obama’s original presidential campaign became synonymous with the candidate.

As Shepard explained, “I created this artwork for Beto O’Rourke after our mutual friend, John Doe from X, put us in touch. I don’t believe that Texas voters are a monolith and I don’t believe that Greg Abbott represents all of his constituents, including the Uvalde community, properly. Beto O’Rourke represents many values that I strongly endorse and I’m happy to lend my support and my art to Beto For Texas.”

“Beto For All Of Us” Print by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” hand numbered screen print. Beto O’Rourke’s gubernatorial campaign released 200 prints at store.betoorourke.com for $60. The prints are now sold out.

OBEY Giant “THE BIG SUR COAST” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant “THE BIG SUR COAST” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

This Thursday, OBEY Giant will be releasing this beautiful Big Sur poster by artist Shepard Fairey! As Fairey explained, “This Big Sur Coast print, created in partnership with The Fifty-Nine Parks Print Series, features the graceful and iconic Bixby Creek bridge along with a beautiful stretch of the California coastal cliffs and Pacific Ocean. I’ve been to this location in person several times, and it is breathtaking in any weather at any time of the year. I feel very lucky to have a system of parks in California preserved for public enjoyment and are valued landmarks. I think it is essential to keep some spaces dominated by nature for the sake of the environment and citizens’ quality of life. Proceeds from this print will help maintain the parks.”

OBEY Giant “Lemmy Damaged Case” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant “Lemmy Damaged Case” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

Tomorrow, OBEY Giant will be releasing this fantastic portrait print of Motörhead’s iconic lead singer Lemmy by Shepard Fairey! As Fairey explained, “I saw Motörhead several times over the years, and they ALWAYS crushed it and were the loudest band I’ve ever seen! The band recorded and toured for 40 years, and I can’t think of a more consistent and reliable musical institution than Motörhead. Motörhead’s founder, singer, bassist, and songwriter, Lemmy Kilmister, is himself as iconic as Motörhead’s “snaggletooth” logo. Lemmy stayed true to the hard-rocking, hard-living lifestyle with a handlebar mustache, cowboy boots, denim, and leather as his perpetual battle uniform to the bitter end. Even though Lemmy looked 50 when he was 30, he never seemed to age a day after that.”

“It was a shock when Lemmy unexpectedly died of cancer… I was convinced that hard rock as a devout religion had made Lemmy immortal! Lemmy may be gone, but the songs and the iconic Motörhead logo live on.” – Shepard

Lemmy Damaged Case by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper. The print is based on the original photograph of Tony Mottram. Limited to just 550 pieces, this Motörhead print will go on sale at 10am PT this Thursday, September 9th, at store.obeygiant.com for $65.

OBEY Giant “Obey Radical Peace” Screen Prints by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant “Obey Radical Peace” Screen Prints by Shepard Fairey

This Thursday, OBEY Giant will be releasing Shepard Fairey’s newest screen print “Obey Radical Peace”!  It is based on Fairey’s art piece from his “Future Mosaic” art show. Shepard’s philosophy has always been that violence is the first resort of the weak-minded. As you can imagine, the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol was the inspiration for this image but, unfortunately, there are plenty of other examples of small-minded violence.

OBEY Giant “Obey Radical Peace” Screen Prints by Shepard Fairey

As Shepard explained, “I would like to see people use diplomacy and creativity to find mutually beneficial solutions to problems rather than using violence as the first reaction to conflict. Proceeds go to Defending Rights and Dissent to support their efforts on strengthening our participatory democracy by protecting the right to political expression.”

Obey Radical Peace by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper.  It will be available in three colorways: a Blue Edition, a Red Edition and a Cream Edition.  Each colorway is limited to 375 pieces and will retail for $55.  A limited amount of matching numbered sets will also be released for $165.  All three prints go on sale at 10am PT this Thursday, May 6th, at store.obeygiant.com.

OBEY Giant “Kurt Cobain – Endless Namless” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant “Kurt Cobain – Endless Namless” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

Today, OBEY Giant will be releasing this fantastic portrait of Kurt Cobain by Shepard Fairey! As Shepard explained, “I have been a fan of Nirvana since I first heard them over 30 years ago. My appreciation for lead singer Kurt Cobain’s artistry and intelligence has only increased over the decades. I had an opportunity to see Nirvana and the Melvins in the fall of 1991, but I had a college project due, so I skipped it to finish my work. At the time, it seemed like both bands would remain underground and tour the smaller clubs for the foreseeable future. As it turns out, Nirvana would soon sell millions of albums and dramatically change the musical landscape.”

“I’d always wanted to make a Kurt Cobain tribute portrait, but I did not want to use one of the many well-known photographs as the reference for my illustration. Fortunately, I ran into Chris Petersen whose late sister Naomi was a photographer for SST Records and shot some great Nirvana photos in 1990. In one photo, I was immediately drawn to Kurt’s gaze directly at the viewer, which I then tried to amplify in my illustration. I hope that my portrait of Kurt is a reminder that his artistry and humanity endure despite his struggles and tragic early death.” – Shepard Fairey

“Kurt Cobain – Endless Nameless” by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” signed and numbered screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper. Original photo by Naomi Petersen. Limited to 650 pieces, this Kurt Cobain poster will go on sale at 10am PT today, Tuesday, April 6th, store.obeygiant.com/collections/prints for $85.

OBEY Giant “Waves of Distress” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant “Waves of Distress” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

To celebrate World Water Day today, Monday, March 22nd, OBEY Giant has unveiled these beautiful Wave of Distress screen prints by artist Shepard Fairey. World Water Day not only focuses attention on the water crisis and drinking water, but it is also a day of reflection to celebrate water. As Fairey explained, “I wanted to share a new piece of art that I think gives consciousness to water. I’ve done several wave illustrations over the years because I love the power and beauty of waves. The crashing waves and cycle of tides seem endlessly reliable, but ocean health is diminishing in many places.”

OBEY Giant “Waves of Distress” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

“The title ‘Wave of Distress’ is meant to be a warning. Distress means ‘suffering in a state of great trouble.’ If the oceans are in trouble, then the entire planet will be overcome by a wave of distress. The oceans regulate climate and reduce climate change impacts and provide an important habitat and source of food for many species, including humans. These prints are a reminder to respect and restore the oceans. A percentage of proceeds from these prints will go to Greenpeace to support their efforts to preserve the environment and promote peace.” – Shepard Fairey

“Waves of Distress” by Shepard Fairey is a 24”x18” signed and numbered OBEY Giant screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper.  It will be released in two colorways: Blue and Sepia.  Each edition is limited to 400 pieces and will retail for $55.  A limited number of matching number sets will also be available for $110.  Proceeds from the sale of these prints will go to Greenpeace.  Both colorways will go on sale at 10am PDT on Tuesday, March 23rd, at store.obeygiant.com/collections/prints.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg “A Champion of Justice” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey x Obey Giant

Ruth Bader Ginsburg “A Champion of Justice” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey x Obey Giant

Check out this rad new Obey Giant print “A Champion of Justice” by Shepard Fairey, which is based on the original photo of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Ruven Afanador.  As Fairey explained, “Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a hero of mine because she was a low-key radical. She encountered gender discrimination in her personal life which she overcame with perseverance and professional excellence, allowing her to infiltrate the male-dominated system and change that system from within to benefit women’s rights and equality under the law.”

“Ginsburg’s accomplishments are inspiring, including founding the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union before being appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993. Ginsburg was a champion of justice philosophically, but she worked tirelessly to manifest her ideas about justice in real-world policies. RBG was legendary for her work ethic, getting by on only a few hours of sleep and prolifically writing important opinions, often dissenting powerfully. Justice Ginsburg always stood up for equality with a degree of dignity and civility that was unassailable. I admire her ability to work with people she disagreed with and attempt to win them over rather than react with anger. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, thank you for being a role model in both style and substance.” – Shepard Fairey

The Ruth Bader Ginsburg tribute screen print “A Champion Of Justice” by Shepard Fairey will come signed and numbered and printed on thick cream Speckletone paper.  It will be available in two sizes.  The 18”x24” Edition is limited to 500 pieces and will retail for $80, while the 24”x36” edition is limited to 500 pieces and will retail for $120.  Both versions will go on sale at 10am PT on Tuesday, March 2nd, at https://store.obeygiant.com/collections/prints.  All proceeds from the sale of these prints will be donated to the League of Women Voters.

OBEY Giant “AK-47 Lotus” & “AR-15 Lily” Screen Prints by Shepard Fairey

This week OBEY Giant will be releasing two beautiful new Shepard Fairey screen prints, “AK-47 Lotus” and “AR-15 Lily”.  As Shepard explained, “These images are inspired by Vietnam War protesters who would put flowers in the gun barrels of the National Guard who were brought in to suppress their protests for peace.”

“I’m a pacifist, whether that means finding diplomatic solutions to prevent and avoid war internationally or finding diplomatic solutions to prevent and avoid gun violence at home. I’m not anti-Second Amendment, so trolls can calm down… I’m not interested in macho blathering, I just want fewer people to die unnecessarily. Brady United is doing good work preventing gun violence so they will receive a portion of proceeds from these two prints. Thanks for caring.” – Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant Shadowplay Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

OBEY Giant Shadowplay Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

Check out this beautiful new OBEY Giant screen print “Shadowplay” by Shepard Fairey. The Blot loves the retro feel this old school OBEY poster is giving off. As Shepard explained, “The Shadowplay print is inspired by punk, post-punk, and new wave music graphics that combined original art and found imagery in subversive and enigmatic ways. I love that a lot of those graphics are technically crude yet visually sophisticated. That kind of art inspired my earliest high school experiments with a copy machine, x-acto knife, and stencils. Shadowplay is a reference to the shadows of the face in my image, but also to Joy Division and their graphic designer, Peter Saville, who crafted their beautiful and haunting covers from found and manipulated imagery.”

Shadowplay by Shepard Fairey is an 18”x24” signed and numbered OBEY Giant screen print on cream speckletone paper. It will be available in two colorways: Blue and Orange. Each edition is limited to just 350 pieces and will retail for $45. They will go on sale at 10am PDT today, Tuesday, April 2nd, at the OBEY Giant online store.

Obey Giant “Salad Days” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

This Obey Salad Days print was created to accompany the Cranbrook Museum’s “Salad Days” exhibition, which features a selection of Shepard Fairey’s art from 1989-1999. This solo exhibition is a companion show to “Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die: Punk Graphics, 1976-1986.” Salad Days is meant to show the influence of punk on Sheard’s early work’s aesthetics, concepts, and methods. The Salad Days print features a recreation of the paste-up Fairey made in the process of refining the Obey Star Icon in January 1996.

Obey Giant “Salad Days” Screen Print by Shepard Fairey

“I did not learn how to use a Mac until late 1997, so the star image was created by hand using a star window cut out of paper to choose the right cropping for the Icon Face I had just illustrated. I like the idea of revealing the low-fi techniques that drove punk and my early career (and still do!).” – Shepard

Shepard Fairey and OBEY Giant have partnered with the Misfits to release an epic apparel capsule collection, which includes awesome t-shirts, satin bombers, M-65 and leather jackets, as well as accessories like hats, skateboards, and pins. Obey Giant x Misfits Apparel Collection by Shepard Fairey x Obey Clothing

“The Misfits are a punk rock revelation and a band that have mesmerized me from my first introduction to them in 1985. The Misfits art is pure alchemy genius and the best example of remixing marginal subculture imagery into a cohesive cult brand in history. I remember making my first homemade stencil of the Misfits fiend skull back in the mid ‘80s and how proud I was of how it looked sprayed on a t-shirt. It was fun to revisit stenciling the Misfits imagery and is a reminder that my entire career is built on do-it-yourself empowerment!” – Shepard Fairey
