NYCC 2019 Exclusive Vintage Gold Action Figure Series by Lou Pimentel x DKE Toys

Lou Pimnetel’s epic Vintage Gold Action Figure Series returns with a new wave of figures for New York Comic Con 2019! For this release, artist Lou Pimentel hand painted 20 different cardbacks. Each original watercolor is on a 6”x9” backer card and has a vintage toy mounted on the front. The series is called Vintage Gold and retail is $165 each at the DKE Toys NYCC booth #575.

Yesterday, Mad Duck Posters released the newest poster in its fantastic Classic Literature Series, The Wonderful Wizard of OZ by artist Ise Ananphada! Based on the evil Trap Jaw’s color scheme, “Master Wizard .001” combines the head of the Tin Woodsman from The Wizard of Oz with what appears to be a body from an A-Team action figure. The Wizard of OZ Screen Print by DKNG

Mondo continues its colorful The Wizard of OZ Screen Print Series today with a beautiful new movie poster by DKNG! What’s really cool about this release is Mondo has produced three different versions of it with each colorway featuring a different colored horse. Diehard OZ fans know that Dorothy was brought into the Emerald City on a carriage drawn by The Horse of a Different Color, making these three variants movie accurate!

As DKNG explained, “When approaching a film as iconic as The Wizard of Oz, we wanted to find a unique focal point beyond the main iconography of the film. The Horse of a Different Color occupies just a brief scene, but proved to be a great subject for a print series that includes the three different colors - red, purple, and yellow - that the horse takes on in the film. Each print shares three ink colors with the fourth screen customized to provide the color change for each variant.”

“Transparent” The Veteran Resin Figure by HealeyMade

Over the weekend, HealeyMade dropped a freaking beautiful crystal clear edition of his bootleg resin figure The Veteran, which combines the head of the Tin Woodsman from The Wizard of Oz with what appears to be a body from an A-Team action figure. This unpainted, clear colorway stands 7.5” tall and features articulated arms. Just look at the details in this hand cast resin figure. HealeyMade kills it once again!

The “Transparent” Edition The Veteran retails for just $45 and is a timed release, with the figure’s run size set by the number of orders placed at the HealeyMade online store. But you’d better act fast as the opportunity to buy one of these figures ends this morning (Monday, April 20th). And let me just say, a 7.5” figure for just $45 is a steal!

After originally debuting at Kevin Tong and Martin Ansin’s amazing duo art show at Mondo Gallery last month, Mondo is finally releasing this beautiful The Wizard of OZ screen print by Kevin Tong! While we’ve all come to admire highly detailed and technical work of Tong, what I love about this movie poster is its simplicity. It’s amazing how he is able to juxtapose the colorful world of OZ with the dour, monotone Kansas. Kevin’s foreground line work is impeccable!

The Wizard of Oz Pop! Movies Wave 2 by Funko

It’s been two years, but Funko is finally continuing its line of Wizard of Oz Pop! Movies vinyl figures! Fans can now complete their collection of cute, chunky OZ figures with Glinda the Good Witch, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Glinda is nothing all that exciting of a Pop!, but the other three look fantastic. I especially love all the texture and detailing on the Scarecrow.

Mondo is teaming up with the super talented Tom Whalen for a second print release today! Whalen has designed an iconic movie poster for one of The Blot’s all time favorite films, The Wizard of Oz. It is an unbelievable 11 color screen print that is almost as Technicolor as the film itself! This print is seriously as magical as the Emerald City. I especially love how Tom was able to include so many signature parts from this timeless movie. I haven’t bought a print in a very long time, but I may have to splurge on this one!!!

“Harden My Heart” Women of Cinema Art Exhibit by Mute

The Blot was recently introduced to UK artist Mute through his current solo art show “Harden My Heart.” It’s a new movie themed exhibition at The Old Sweet Shop in Sheffield, UK featuring all digital prints. The show focuses on the women of cinema pushed to the edge like Star Wars’ Princess Leia, The Wizard of Oz’ Dorthy, Alien’s Ripley, and Terminator’s Sarah Connor. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it!?!

Johnny Cupcakes Pop Culture T-Shirts

Last weekend Johnny Cupcakes released a new batch of t-shirts that had The Blot written all over them! All three designs were influenced heavily by pop culture, two are based on classic movies and one pays tribute to the greatest punk rock band of all time. Can you guess what they are!?!

I keep going back and forth on which of these designs I like the most, but I starting to think it’s The Wizard of Oz inspired “Bakers of Oz” tee. I just love the simple portrait of a winged monkey and its striking use of color. The Karate Kid inspired “Crane Kick” is also pretty solid, with the JC crew replacing Daniel-san with a portly baker. And then there’s “Lets Bake,” which is based on The Ramones’ log (which in turn is based on the seal of the President of the United States). I have to imagine this is definitely going to be the most popular of the three designs.

Threadless Pop Culture Robots “Used Appliances” T-Shirt

While this awesome pop culture tee has been out for a while, The Blot wanted to highlight it while Threadless’ 10th Anniversary $10 Sale was still going on. “Used Appliances” reimagines some of pop cultures most popular robots as mundane household appliances. It’s got everything from Optimus Prime as a dryer, a Voltron lion as a vacuum and R2-D2 as a coffee machine. My favorite is the Mega Man hair dryer, but who doesn’t love the most obvious one, a Cylon as a toaster.
