Kidrobot x [adult swim] Chase Figures

The line of Kidrobot x [adult swim] vinyl mini figures came out last Thursday and since then pictures of the line’s chase figures have been circling the web. I had a lot of high hopes as to who the mystery figures might be, and boy was I way off base.

Turns out the two chase figures are of Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s Chicken Bittle, a character introduced in the ATHF movie, and Crackhead Morel Orel. I definitely didn’t see either of these two coming. The Morel Orel figure is pretty funny, but all in all I think the line is pretty disappointing in both choice of characters and the overall quality of the figures.

Lando Calrissian and Wave 3 Star Wars Mighty Muggs In Stores Now

The Blot had a meeting this afternoon in a part of Houston I had never been to before and I noticed on my way there a Super Wal-Mart down the block from my appointment. Since there are no Wal-Marts anywhere near where The Blot lives, I thought I’d take a pit stop on my way home and see what they had in stock. I was shocked to find Wave 3 Star Wars Mighty Muggs on display considering earlier reports had the figures not being released until May.

Star Wars Mighty Muggs Wave 3 - Princess Leia, Commander Cody, Jango Fett & Lando Calrissian
Needless to say I was pretty pumped because the first figure I saw was the Lando Calrissian Mighty Mugg. I’ve said it from day one, there is only one Star Wars Mighty Mugg figure The Blot had to have, and today I finally got him. Lil’ Billy Dee is going to look sweet on my shelf! All I have to do now is figure out how to get him out of the all that packaging.

The Blot's Very Own Lando Calrissian Mighty Mugg
Now that I have the Mighty Mugg I’ve been looking for, what Mighty Muggs figures are you still looking for, or which character do you hope they make in future Star Wars, Marvel Legends or Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs waves?

Marvel Mighty Muggs Wave 3

It seems like Hasbro’s line of Mighty Muggs must be extremely popular, because every time I go to my two local Targets they are either sold out or only have one or two Star Wars Mighty Muggs out on display. I haven’t seen any of the Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs in stores around here, but Wave 1 and Wave 2 are available for sale here at Hasbro.com.

The Marvel Mighty Muggs must be doing well because Hasbro has announced that Wave 3 will be hitting stores in July of 2008. The third wave of Marvel Mighty Muggs will include Doctor Octopus, Thor, Ghost Rider and Spider-Man in his black costume. Keep your eyes out for Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Wave 3 this summer.

Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Wave 3 - Doctor Octopus, Thor, Ghost Rider & Black Suit Spider-Man
Now that we have Star Wars, Marvel and Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs available, how much longer until we see Hasbro produce a line of Mighty Muggs of their other two extremely popular toy lines Transformers and G.I. Joe?

Hellboy II: The Golden Army Theatrical Movie Poster

New York Comic-Con was this past weekend and the convention was jam packed with panels on upcoming movies, toys lines and comic books. One of the panel's topics was Hellboy II: The Golden Army and from all of the reports I’ve read online, the movie sounds like it will be even better than the original. Coming out of NYCC is a first look at the new Hellboy II: The Golden Army theatrical movie poster by legendary artist Drew Struzan. Struzan has produced some of the most legendary movie posters of all time, and while this one probably won’t go down as one of his most timeless, it is still a great addition to his portfolio. Hellboy II will be out in theaters on July 11th, 2008.

Update: YO! MTV Raps x Puma First Round Sneakers

After finding out last week that the YO! MTV Raps x Puma First Round sneakers were coming out yesterday (April 19th), I got pretty excited. What’s not to love about these pink and white Puma high tops, right?

YO! MTV Raps x Puma First Round Sneakers
So I ran down to my local designer sneaker store to see if I could get my hands on a pair. I was pretty excited when I saw them sitting on a shelf with the other newly released wave 3 YO! MTV Raps x Puma sneakers, especially when I found out this particular store was the only shop in Houston (and possibly the state of Texas) to have gotten them in. Things were looking good until I found out they didn’t get a pair in stock that would fit my size 14 feet. Let’s just say The Blot was not a happy camper at that point.

YO! MTV Raps x Puma First Round Sneakers
The YO! MTV Raps x Puma First Round sneakers are selling for $85 retail and the store here in Houston still had a bunch of pairs in stock as of yesterday afternoon. But don’t sleep on these limited edition sneakers, because once they’re sold out they’ll be gone forever. If you’re looking for a pair and can’t find them in your area, hit me up and I’ll give you the details for the store here in Houston.

Justice League International - Series 1 Action Figures

Justice League International Series 1 - Based on the Artwork of Kevin Maguire
From the pages of the much-loved 80’s series of hilarious and action-packed stories that re-defined the term “Super-Hero Team” comes DC Direct’s Justice League International action figures! (link)

DC Comics’s Justice League has been around since the 1960’s and gone through many incarnations over the past 50 years. While some of the team’s lineups were more heralded than others, in the eyes of The Blot one team stands above them all…the Justice League International. After the demise of the Detroit based Justice League and spinning out of DC’s Legends mini-series came a new series, lineup and curious direction that no JLA fan could have ever expected.

Justice League #1 CoverWhat ended up coming out of the title’s re-launch ended up becoming one of my top 3 favorite comics as a kid (and probably one of my top 5 comics of all time). Written by Keith Giffen & J.M. DeMatteis and drawn by Kevin Maguire, their run on Justice League International during the late 80’s/early 90’s took a surprising comedic twist that actually worked well for the team’s new lineup of secondary and B-list characters (who am I kidding, most of them were C and D list characters). The lineup changed and expanded over time but came to be known for its focusing on fan favorite secondary characters such as Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Guy Gardner, Maxwell Lord, Fire and Ice.

Artwork from Booster Gold #8Unfortunately, much of the Justice League International’s legacy has been tarnished over the past few years through storylines focusing around DC’s 2005 mini-series Infinite Crisis, which saw the killing off of many former JLI members. This seems to have rallied together fans of the book and introduced new readers to the brilliance of what was Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire’s run on Justice League.

Justice League International #24 CoverThe team’s new found resurgence in popularity has brought about something I never thought I’d see but had always hoped for, a new line of DC Direct action figures based on Kevin Maguire’s artwork on Justice League International. When this news hit the internet on Monday I was shocked. I had heard zero rumors about the line and then one day out of the blue the news hit. I can’t even being to tell you how excited I am for this line, and while they didn’t include the characters I necessarily would have picked (especially considering there is already a DC Direct G’Nort figure and about a billion Batman figures on the market), I am still extremely pleased with the news.

Artwork from Justice League InternationalThe first wave of the new Justice League International action figures includes Batman, Black Canary in her costume from the late 80’s, Ice (or Ice Maiden) in her original costume, and Green Lantern G’Nort. These are all classic characters from the series and I hope they sell well enough to garner a second wave. I am assuming this is already in the works since this line of figures is being marketed as Series 1.

Justice League Unlimited Action Figure 3 Pack - Ice, Fire & Green Lantern John StewartExpect Series 1 Justice League International figures to hit stores December 10, 2008. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a DC Direct Fire figure in the next series of JLI figures. It would be a shame if she was the only primary JLI member not to be given a DC Direct figure. While the previously released Justice League Unlimited Fire and Ice three pack was a great release, Ms. Beatriz Bonilla de Costa deserves a fully articulated 6” figure.

G.I. Joe The Movie - First Look at Scarlett

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
After the G.I. Joe movie released official photos of Snake Eyes last month it was only a matter of time until they released additional photos of the movie’s main characters. Yesterday JoBlo.com got their hands on an official photo from Paramount Pictures of Snake Eyes’ main squeeze and G.I. Joe’s leading lady, Shana M. O’Hara codename: Scarlett. (link) Rachel Nichols (Alias) stars in the live action G.I. Joe movie as Scarlett and she looks pretty good in the role of the crossbow wielding redhead.

2008 NBA Playoffs - There Can Only Be One

The 2008 NBA Playoffs are now set and the cards didn’t exactly fall where The Blot had hoped they would. The Houston Rockets clinched the number 5 Seed and home court advantage last night, while the Phoenix Suns got stuck with the 6th Seed and a trip to San Antonio. Now I can only hope the Rockets advance to the second round to play the Western Conference Champion L.A. Lakers, which I’m not really expecting to happen (especially with Rafter Alston out for at least the first two games of the playoffs). In the meantime, I’m now stuck with two Game 1 playoff tickets to see the Houston Rockets take on the Utah Jazz Saturday night at 8:30 pm. With the Rockets’ playoff series not including either Kobe or Shaq I now have zero interest in attending the game…I guess it’s time to try and sell my tickets ASAP.

The Houston Rockets - Bobby Jackson, Rafter Alston, Tracy McGrady and Luis Scola
Speaking of Kobe and Shaq, have you seen their newest "There Can Only Be One" 2008 NBA Playoffs television ad? It’s a pretty sweet advertisement, with the two of them talking split-screen about the fear of coming this far and not winning it all. It’s an awesome commercial and is definitely the best pairing of the NBA’s "There Can Only Be One" advertisement campaign. The other commercials feature LeBron James & Kevin Garnett, Steve Nash & Jason Kidd, Dwight Howard & Chris Paul, Paul Pierce & Mike Bibby and Antawn Jamison & Ben Wallace.

Lost Wednesdays Is Back!

Well, at least for a week it is. While everyone is patiently waiting for the 5 remaining episodes of Lost Season 4 to begin airing, The Blot has some exciting news! After a lot of discussion between ABC and Lost Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, ABC has finally agreed “to bring us an extra hour of Lost this season.” (link) Yes, you’ve read that correctly, the Lost crew has figured out a way to produce an extra episode this season! I guess cramming in eight episodes worth of story lines into 5 hour episodes wasn’t as easy as it sounds. Thankfully, to the benefit of Lost fans worldwide, we will now be getting 14 episodes this season.

Lost
The next logical question is how is ABC going to be scheduling this additional hour of programming while still giving the cast and crew enough time to produce it? Well, TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello has all the scoop:

With a 14th hour of Lost now a done deal, the show’s finale will swell to three hours. But, in what can only be described as an unorthodox scheduling move, the first hour of that finale will air on May 15, and then we have to wait two weeks – until May 29 – to get the last two hours! That’s right, no Lost on May 22. (link)
Lost Co-Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse

The one week break seems very confusing at first until you find out the rest of the story. Because Lost's Exec-Producers convinced ABC they needed to air the final two hours of Lost at the same time and because ABC had already scheduled the season finales of Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy for May 22nd, ABC decided to push the season finale of Lost back a week and ordered an extra episode of Grey’s Anatomy to fill the hour gap left by Lost's move. So not only has this decision given Lost an extra episode, but now fans of Grey’s Anatomy get rewarded with a previously unscheduled two hour season finale. It sounds like it’s working out for all fans of ABC’s hit dramas.

TV Guide's Michael Ausiello
As always, no Ausiello report is complete with at least a little tease of what’s coming up on the finale 6 episodes of the season. The semi-spoiler comes at the end of a Carlton Cuse quote given to Ausiello explaining why the additional hour was needed, “Damon and I were working on the script and we just couldn’t get it all done in one hour without shortchanging the story. Now the finale will have all the sweep and emotional completeness we wanted it to have – along with, of course, answering who’s in the coffin.” (link) If that doesn’t get you excited for Lost’s return on April 24th at 10/9c then I don’t know what will.

ABC's new revised schedule looks like this:

May 15
8/7c PM: Ugly Betty
9/8c PM: Grey's Anatomy
10/9c PM: Lost (Season Finale, Part 1)

May 22
8/7c PM: Ugly Betty (Season Finale)
9/8c PM: Grey's Anatomy (Two Hour Season Finale)

May 29
8/7c PM: Lost (Season Finale, Part 1) repeat
9/8c PM: Lost (Season Finale, Parts 2 & 3)

The Incredible Hulk Theatrical Movie Poster

With only 57 days until the release of The Incredible Hulk, we finally get a sneak peak of the movie’s one-sheet movie poster. I have actually loved everything associated with the re-launch of The Incredible Hulk franchise so far (including the cast and movie trailer), and the movie's poster is no exception. It is very reminiscent of the 70’s The Incredible Hulk television show. There is something about Edward Norton’s pose in the center of the poster that reminds me a lot of the way Bill Bixby portrayed Dr. “David” Bruce Banner on TV as a traveling nomad trying to stay off the grid and away from the government’s prying eyes. Look for The Incredible Hulk to smash theaters nationwide on Friday, June 13, 2008.
