Willie Nelson “Stardust” Screen Print by Matt Ryan Tobin x Collectionzz

Willie Nelson “Stardust” Screen Print by Matt Ryan Tobin x Collectionzz

Today, Collectionzz celebrates one of Willie Nelson’s masterpieces, Stardust, with a limited edition, double sided screen print by artist Matt Ryan Tobin! As Collectionzz explained, “The art is inspired by Willie’s words about the titular track, and what it meant to him personally growing up as a child during the depression days looking up to the stars, which is transcribed on the back of the poster. This print is for all the stargazers out there!”

Willie Nelson “Stardust” Screen Print by Matt Ryan Tobin x Collectionzz

In April 1978, Willie Nelson took a left turn by following a string of successful albums with a cover album of songs made famous by decidedly non-country musicians like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. Stardust was a legendary departure from the traditional outlaw country Willie, and America's pop troubadour put his one-of-a-kind touch on pop standards, finding common ground between outlaw country and mellow. It was the right move.

Stardust was met with high sales and near-universal positive reviews. It peaked at number 1 in Billboard’s Top Country Albums. In 1979, Nelson won a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for the song “Georgia on My Mind”. Stardust was on the Billboard’s Country Album charts for ten years – from its release until 1988. In 1984, when it was certified triple platinum, Nelson was the highest-grossing concert act in the United States. By 1988, the album was certified quintuple platinum, and it was later inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame class of 2015.

Willie Nelson “Stardust” by Matt Ryan Tobin is a 24”x18” hand numbered screen print with a holographic sticker on back of print for authenticity.  Limited to 100 pieces, this print will go on sale at 2pm ET today, Tuesday, September 14th, at iconic.collectionzz.com for $75.

Collectionzz has teamed up with one of The Blot’s favorite artists, Ghoulish Gary Pullin, for the next poster in their Iconic by Collectionzz screen print series commemorating another legendary moment in music history – the 50th anniversary of the release of Alice Cooper’s Love It To Death album!

Alice Cooper: Love It to Death Screen Print by Ghoulish Gary Pullin x Collectionzz

This album was the culmination of Cooper's journey that began in 1964 when Vincent Furnier made his first onstage appearance in Phoenix. Fast forward to December 1971 when everybody had heard Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen” off of their first mainstream success, Love It to Death.

“I don’t think my friends at Collectionzz were prepared for my excitement when they asked me to create this anniversary poster for Alice Cooper. To put it mildly, I’m kind of a fan and have been to more Alice Cooper concerts then I have fingers to count. As a teenager in the 1980s I was fully consumed by horror movies, monster magazines and heavy metal. During that time Alice Cooper was having a revival and my first show was in 1989, when the Trash tour came through my home town. I’ve been hooked ever since.” – Ghoulish Gary Pullin

The Notorious B.I.G. “Ready to Die” 26th Anniversary Screen Print by Paul Jackson x Collectionzz

Collectionzz has teamed up with artist Paul Jackson for the next poster in their Iconic by Collectionzz screen print series commemorating another legendary moment in music history. Check out this epic The Notorious B.I.G. screen print by Paul Jackson! For this release, Collectionzz worked directly with Biggie’s estate to commemorate the 26th anniversary of his debut album, Ready to Die, which is considered by many to be the best rap album ever made.

The Notorious B.I.G. “Ready to Die” 26th Anniversary Screen Print by Paul Jackson x Collectionzz

“It was a huge honor to be asked to create a poster for Notorious B.I.G. on the 26th anniversary of Ready to Die. I remember hearing the record for the first time in the mid ‘90s and being blown away by it. It was a new wave of hip hop for me and I was hooked straight away. This poster was trying to reflect some of the grittiness of Brooklyn and NYC at the time, and reflect his song titles within that world. Biggie always stood strong so the pose is supposed to reflect that. I like the image being simple yet somewhat direct and confrontational - much like his music.” – Paul Jackson

The Notorious B.I.G. by Paul Jackson is a 24”x36” signed and numbered 8 color screen print on cotton rag paper. The Main Edition is limited to 200 pieces and will retail for $150, while the Variant is limited to 100 pieces and will retail for $200.  Both versions will go on sale at 2pm EDT on Tuesday, September 15th, at iconic.collectionzz.com.

Purchasers of the Main Edition and/or Variant can also add an 8.5”x11” signed 2 color screen print of the iconic Ready to Die baby. This isn’t a photograph, but a hand drawn rendering by Paul Jackson. All proceeds of this print will go directly to the Christopher Wallace Foundation.

Vinyl aficionados may recognize this design featuring a snow owl with piercing eyes, which was inspired by the original album cover.

In December 1974, Rush recorded their second album Fly by Night with their new drummer, Neil Peart. With the addition of The Professor, “suddenly, it was a very different band” said Geddy Lee. “Once we had Neil with us, so much changed in the way we wrote music and the way we presented it. And from that point on, it felt like we could do anything...” Alex Lifeson agreed, “in many ways, the second album felt like a new start for the band.” Rush supported Fly by Night with a 70 city US and Canadian tour from February to June 1975 opening for rock behemoths Kiss and Aerosmith, which also included their first major headlining shows.

Mötley Crüe First Las Vegas Concert Screen Print by Andrew Alekseev x Collectionzz

Collectionzz has teamed up with artist Andrew Alekseev for the next poster in their Iconic by Collectionzz screen print series commemorating another legendary moment in music history! Check out this fantastic Mötley Crüe screen print gig poster, which celebrates the band’s first Las Vegas concert on April 1, 1983.

Mötley Crüe’s short-lived tour opening for KISS in early 1983 was the band’s first real opportunity to play on big stages on the West Coast. KISS was undoubtedly a tough act to open for, as they had already reached the heights as one of the world’s biggest bands and arguably the most spectacular concert attraction to date in rock history.

The Aladdin Theater in Las Vegas opened on April 1, 1983 (April Fool’s Day), and the very first concert there was KISS with Mötley Crüe. It also marked the very first time Mötley Crüe performed in Las Vegas! To complete the circle, the band would be asked back to Aladdin Theater to close the venue on November 25, 1997. Collectionzz explained, “what better way to kick off our first limited edition screenprint for the legendary Mötley Crüe than with this classic show, featuring a Vegas-inspired design by Andrew Alekseev.”

Mötley Crüe “First Las Vegas Concert” by Andrew Alekseev is an 18”x24” hand numbered screen print. The Main Edition is limited to 125 pieces, while the Mirror Foil Variant is limited to just 25 pieces. The Basement in Dallas, Texas was the unofficial home base club in the early days of Pantera, shooting three videos in one day there: “Psycho Holiday”, “Cemetery Gates” and “Cowboys From Hell”. A few days before the release of the album, Pantera held a legendary record release party at The Basement for their most loyal fans who participated in the video shoot. The original flyer for the show was created by Dimebag Darrell, and Vance incorporated many of Dime’s designs like the barbed wire and dripping blood Pantera logo into the art.

Check out the brilliant Elton John “Los Angeles 1975” screen print by Matt Ryan Tobin! Elton John “Los Angeles 1975” Screen Print by Matt Ryan Tobin x Collectionzz

For this release, Matt researched vintage baseball card designs to create the poster’s unique look, fusing that influence with his subject’s distinct aesthetic. Tobin went on to say “There were bones there to work with that I took note of but at the end of the day the card design needed to be elevated with that Elton style and flare.” Keen observers may notice the reflection of a rocket ship in John’s glasses. The subtle addition was Tobin’s nod to the classic tune “Rocket Man”.

This album went on to become one of the defining albums of the 90’s and put Pantera on top of the metal genre. To commemorate the important milestone for the band, Iconic by Collectionzz worked closely with Pantera to produce an epic 30th Anniversary poster. Pantera played an integral part of the design, and wanted an old school Clint Eastwood movie inspired poster starring Dimebag Darrell, Philip, Vinnie and Rex. Paul Jackson took the concept and tediously brought it to life with extreme detail, staying true to the band and music.”

As Collectionzz explained, “The art symbolically represents the “journey” in Willie’s career from Nashville to Austin, which was a significant moment in not only country music, but pop music history. Because of Willie’s well publicized love of horses and animals in general, the artist decided to make Willie's journey on horseback, with the city of Austin in the distance.”

“You Are Strong” Screen Print by Tara McPherson x Collectionzz x Pearl Jam

“You Are Strong” Screen Print by Tara McPherson x Collectionzz x Pearl Jam

Collectionzz has launched a really cool new screen print series entitled Art Unleashed: Rock Art for a Cause. It’s a collaboration with some amazing artists from around the world, who are very well-recognized within the world of rock and gig posters, with two goals in mind: to raise money for charity, and to bring to members of Collectionzz some of the most phenomenal rock art they’ve ever seen! But what’s really amazing about this project is that Collectionzz will be donating all profits from the sales of the art to the charities of the artists’ choices. How cool is that!?! The Blot will definitely be trying to snag a few prints from this exciting new series.

To create original and interpretive art, Collectionzz has asked each artist to use a song as inspiration, and harness their guttural reactions to the music itself, without limitation. For their second release, Collectionzz has asked the super talented Tara McPherson to design an art print for the classic Pearl Jam song “Why Go.” As Tara explained, “I was assigned the song ‘Why Go’ by Pearl Jam for my art print in this series with Collectionzz. After reading the lyrics I was taken with the character's strength in fighting the system and the status quo. I feel she is an icon of strength, and I wanted to illustrate her independent spirit. I see parallels with scratching letters into walls with tattooing words across your chest. There is this alternate universe hinted at through the heart shaped hole in her chest, creating a sort of portal to an alternate dimension, maybe where one’s mind would go when trapped in an isolated place. I also chose Planned Parenthood as my charity because they fight the good fight for women's health and reproductive rights. The title is a reminder, a mantra, for women everywhere going through any rough spot that life throws at you... You are strong.”
