Halloween Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

Halloween Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

Mad Duck Posters has teamed up with artist Kevin Tong to release an epic new movie poster for John Carpenter’s iconic 1978 horror film, Halloween! It is available now at MadDuckPosters.com in a Regular Orange Edition, Variant Blue Edition and a killer Nightmare Rainbow Foil Edition.

Halloween Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

“There are a lot of scenes where Michael Myers is observing his victims through some kind of screen, window, or sheet until he's suddenly on the other side and the result is unspeakable terror. The fence, whether it’s white picket or chain link, is a staple of suburbia, but ultimately, an illusion of safety. Michael Myers goes right through the fence and violently intersects the lives of all the characters in the film, all contained within the fence that could never have kept them safe. While there’s no scene that literally shows The Shape going through a fence, it was a great visual to organize the poster and create different Halloween art than the countless posters that have been done before.” – Kevin Tong

SDCC 2022 Exclusive Prints by Kevin Tong

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Exclusive Prints by Kevin Tong

Kevin Tong will be at San Diego Comic-Con setting up shop at booth #933 with a bunch of really cool new SDCC 2022 Exclusive Prints! First up, Kevin will be releasing three beautiful new SDCC 2022 Exclusive 9”x12” Letterpress Prints. “Orbital Decay”, “Nymph” and “Wendigo” are each limited to just 60 pieces.

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Exclusive Prints by Kevin Tong

Check out the Comic-Con 2022 Exclusive “Arecibo”, which is an 18”x24” signed and numbered fine art giclee print. It’s limited to just 40 pieces! As Tong explained, “When the Arecibo Radio Telescope collapsed a few years back, a small part of me collapsed too. In addition to bringing to humanity vast troves of information about the cosmos, it was a great set piece for films like Goldeneye, Contact, and The X-Files. There are efforts to try to rebuild it and the valuable data it has collected since the 1960s was saved by an amazing team of people at the University of Texas. Hopefully in the future, it will continue to have a use, even if it's only for two people.”

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Exclusive Prints by Kevin Tong

Tong will also be releasing a new Screen Print Edition of his Drive movie poster, which will be available for the very first time at SDCC. As Kevin explained, “The colors and metallic inks came out beautifully. It's fitting to be debuting this poster at San Diego Comic-Con because I always see people dressed in Drive cosplay as if the Driver was a hero to emulate. He’s not meant to be an aspirational hero, but rather the movie deconstructs what our notion of a “real hero” is. The gruesome violence and lack of humanity required to defeat “bad guys” is shown and anyone the Driver is connected to, despite their innocence, gets injured, threatened, and killed. His intentions might be good, but he can’t change his nature.”

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Exclusive Prints by Kevin Tong

“This theme is repeated over and over again in the stories about the scorpion and the frog as well as the bit about sharks. He’s not a hero and he was never supposed to be. I wanted my poster to be emulate that. Lots of Drive art shows the Driver more prominently. I wanted to make him look more questionable and like his world was eternally separate from the shimmering world of good people like Irene and Benicio.” – Kevin Tong

Elton John Troubadour 50th Anniversary Concert Poster by Kevin Tong x Collectionzz

Elton John Troubadour 50th Anniversary Concert Poster Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Collectionzz

Collectionzz has teamed up with superstar artist Kevin Tong for the next poster in their Iconic by Collectionzz screen print series commemorating another legendary moment in music history! August 25, 2020 marked the 50th anniversary of Elton John’s iconic first performance in the United States at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Elton was a relatively unknown singer-songwriter from England when he took to the stage, but by the end of his set he was declared the new star of rock and roll. For this release Kevin Tong created a new concert poster commemorating the 50th anniversary of that iconic performance.

As Collectionzz explained, “Kevin created this stunning 8 color screenprint that is as vibrant and electric (or as close as one can get!) as Elton’s performance was. The colors emanate from Elton’s piano and surround him, elevating him off the ground as he performed in front of a packed house of stunned members of the audience at the Troubadour.”

Elton John Troubadour 50th Anniversary Concert Poster by Kevin Tong is an 18”x24” hand numbered 8 color screen print. The Main Edition is limited to 150 pieces and retails for $75, while the Rainbow Foil Variant is limited to 100 pieces and retails for $150. Both versions are available now at iconic.collectionzz.com.

The Pit and the Pendulum Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

The Pit and the Pendulum Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

The Blot was thrilled to learn that Mad Duck Posters will be releasing a new screen print by Kevin Tong today! Kevin never ceases to amaze me with what he can do with the medium of screen prints, and it’s been way too long since we’ve gotten a new print from him. Today’s release is the next poster in MDP’s Vincent Price Series, The Pit and the Pendulum!

The Pit and the Pendulum Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

Kevin Tong had this to say about the Vincent Price film, “1961’s The Pit And The Pendulum is a masterful film that is a once in a generation crossroads of talent in horror with Roger Corman directing Vincent Price in the film adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe story of the same name. Like many low budget classic horror films, it uses creative ways to affect terror and in doing so, leaves a longer lasting mark in the minds of viewers.”

“Rewatching it recently to do this poster, my biggest takeaways were how much texture, shadows, and space were key players in delivering the aforementioned terror. Also, I love the opening credit scene. This is actually quite a colorful horror film. I wanted to instill all of that in this poster, using more drawing to create texture and using more darker and muted colors than I usually do to make the bright colors more eerie. the part I enjoyed drawing the most was the water.”

The Pit and the Pendulum by Kevin Tong is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print. The Regular Edition is limited to 150 pieces and will retail for $65, while the Metallic Ink Variant is limited to 75 pieces and will retail for $85. There will also be Holo Foil Variants of each colorways that are limited to just 15 pieces and will retail for $150 each. All four editions will go on sale at 12pm ET today, Wednesday, July 29th, at MadDuckPosters.com.

Blue Velvet Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

Blue Velvet Movie Poster Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mad Duck Posters

Mad Duck Posters has released its newest movie poster, the hauntingly beautiful Blue Velvet by Kevin Tong. Man, the way Kevin utilized blue light in this print is just amazing! As Ton explained, “Blue Velvet is one of my favorite films. With anything David Lynch, the process of coming up with imagery is massively intimidating. Sketch after sketch, I was hitting walls for a while and I finally came to the conclusion that Blue Velvet is an intense emotion driven film and I wanted my poster for it to be emotional as well. The film is painted with sadness, anger, lust, beauty, ugliness, love, and so much more. I tried to make every aspect of the illustration, the style, color palette, composition, and mood, reflect some emotional aspect of Blue Velvet.”

Blue Velvet by Kevin Tong is a 24”x3” hand numbered screen print. The Regular Edition is limited to 250 pieces and will retail for $70, while the Variant is limited to 125 pieces and will retail for $90. There is also a Foil Variant of each edition that is limited to just 15 pieces and retails for $150. All four versions are available now at MadDuckPosters.com.

SDCC 2017 Exclusive Tithorea Screen Print by Kevin Tong

San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Exclusive Tithorea Screen Print by Kevin Tong

Check out this gorgeous San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Exclusive Tithorea Screen Print by Kevin Tong! Kevin has been doing some amazing work with colors on his last few prints, and The Blot honestly can’t figure how he’s doing it. As Tong explained on his blog, “Tithorea is an obscure dryad in ancient Greek Mythology. Dryads are generally female tree spirits or tree nymphs who were immortal as long as their tree was alive. In addition to Greek mythology, dryads appear in various artworks, poetry (more than a few Sylvia Plath poems), and John Milton’s Paradise Lost. Tithorea has a town named after her in Greece, was considered the dryad of Mount Parnassus, and was associated with oak trees.”

Arrival Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mondo

Arrival Movie Poster Screen Print by Kevin Tong x Mondo

To commemorate the release of Denis Villeneuve's Arrival on blu-ray and digital HD this week, Mondo is releasing new movie poster for the sci-fi tale by acclaimed artist Kevin Tong. The Mondo team had this to say about the screen print: “Kevin has created a beautiful and poignant scene that manages to perfectly balance the emotional core at the center of the film faced by Louise Banks (played expertly by Amy Adams) with the cold and desolate production design of the spacecraft. Kevin's composition and use of negative space cleverly amplifies and creates a mood of isolation and tension while also serving as a visual representation of the ‘weight of knowledge’ being dropped on Louise throughout the film.”

Arrival by Kevin Tong is a 24”x36” hand numbered 12 color screen print. The Regular Edition is limited to 325 pieces and will retail for $60, while the Variant is limited to 150 pieces and will retail for $80. MondoCon is Back and Bigger Than Ever! MondoCon 2 Convention Report

Mike Mitchell

The Blot had the privilege to cover MondoCon 2, the world’s preeminent art and print convention, last weekend in Austin, Texas. The Blot’s been covering Mondo and their releases for years now, but it’s hard to understand the brand’s popularity until you’ve attended MondoCon. Yes most of their releases sell out within seconds, but seeing collectors camp out for days just so they can get first shot at a super limited edition release really drives home the fact that Mondo and its acclaimed stable of artists have become an integral part of these fans’ lives.

Mike Mitchell

Everyone I spoke with throughout the two days of MondoCon were truly passionate about art and prints. They spoke for hours in line each day about gallery shows, movies and art styles. It’s really amazing to see collectors from all walks of life and who have traveled from all around the globe be united in their love of pop culture and design. Although the convention itself would be considered small by today’s standards of comic cons, MondoCon makes up for it with content.

The Vacvvm

For two days straight Mondo hosted a variety of panels on everything from movie soundtracks, toys and collectibles, to artist spotlights and Mondo prints that could have been. They even hosted six different screenings, which spotlighted the variety of different properties Mondo works with. There was definitely a little something for everyone at MondoCon 2015. One of The Blot’s favorite events was visiting the Adventures in Design Podcast room to see AiD tape live shows for two days straight with MondoCon’s featured guests. If you love screen prints and gig posters then you definitely should be listening to the Adventures in Design podcast.

Daniel Danger

What’s really great about this event is that Mondo listens to its fans. It was my understanding that attendees had some constructive criticism for Mondo’s first ever convention last year. The Austin based company definitely took that feedback to heart and it shows! In just its second year, the show has clearly grown for the better as it branched out into a second venue. All attendees could say is how much better and well organized MondoCon 2 was over the year before. With Mondo’s dedicated staff working to continue to make MC better, the sky truly is the limit!

Daniel Danger

The real reason to attend MondoCon, at least for The Blot, is to meet all of the amazing artists in attendance – many of whom have traveled long distances to be there – and all of the fantastic art they brought with them. Unless you live in LA or NYC, MondoCon is one of the few places you can go to meet all of your favorite artists. Each had their own booth (or shared a booth) and many brought rare old prints, originals, sketches and t-shirts for fans to drool over and buy. While I didn’t personally buy much, I spent hours walking the convention floor talking to artists and looking through their art. It was such a treat to see so many pieces in person that I’ve only ever seen on a computer screen. If you plan to travel for one convention next year The Blot highly recommends MondoCon!

Jason Edmiston

Below are my personal photos from MondoCon. I did my best to take pictures of everyone booth at the convention. Sadly, my photos don’t do all of the amazing artwork on display justice. If you see something you like though, be sure to visit the artist’s personal website and buy some art directly from them!!!
