Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first officially look at Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man film! I didn’t think Marvel could pull off a cool looking live action Ant-Man, and I’m so glad to report I was completely wrong on this one. Rudd looks pretty awesome, don’t you think!?! I know we were all disappointed when Edgar Wright left the project, but let’s be honest…this film is going to be so freaking good!

First Look: Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron
As much as The Blot hates Hawkeye’s new costume in Avengers: Age of Ultron (check out that terrible looking coat/dress below), I absolutely love the look of the film’s bad guy, Ultron! It’s the perfect example of how you take a character’s iconic look from the comics and give it a unique, realistic twist that looks good on film. If only DC Comics could learn from Marvel’s success. Just looking at Ultron gives me the heebie-jeebies! Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for these movie stills for 2015’s Avengers 2.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Entertainment Weekly Covers
This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly will pay a special tribute to the upcoming third season of the hit AMC television show The Walking Dead! Not only that, but the issue will feature an official sneak peek into TWD Season 3. There are four covers in all including Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Danai Gurira as Michonne, David Morrissey as The Governor, and Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon and Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon. These might seriously be the best EW covers they’ve had in years! Just look at all the emotions all five of these characters are evoking in these still shots.
Fans can order all four of the covers seen here directly from Entertainment Weekly for just $19.96, or any of the covers individually for 4.99 at their online store.

The Walking Dead First Look: Danai Gurira as Michonne
Last week Entertainment Weekly gave the world its first look as Danai Gurira as Michonne, the sword wielding bad ass of The Walking Dead! The Blot’s trying super hard not to read any spoilers about The Walking Dead’s third season on AMC, but anyone who’s read the first 50 or so issues of The Walking Dead comic book series know the season’s general storyline. Needless to say, things will not be going smoothly for Michonne in Season 3. Then again, does anything really ever go smoothly for Rick’s little band of survivors? So now that you’ve seen Gurira’s live action Michonne, what do you think?
The Walking Dead Season 3 is scheduled to air on AMC Sunday nights beginning October 2012.

The Avengers May 2012 Entertainment Weekly Cover
It’s all Avengers all the time here at TheBlotSays.com this week, what with the Marvel film finally opening in US theaters this weekend. The Avengers three main stars, Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor), graced the cover of Entertainment Weekly again this week and The Blot is feeling very underwhelmed. Doesn’t this look like a terrible photoshopping job? Why does Downey Jr.’s head look so small compared to his body? I guess Evans and Hemsworth don’t look so bad, just kinda out of place. Then again, I’ll take a cover story about The Avengers over Twilight any day!
Entertainment Weekly issue #1205 (dated May 4, 2012) is on newsstands now and The Avengers premieres in US theaters on May 4, 2012.

The Avengers Official Trailer!!!
Here it is, the first full length trailer for next summer’s The Avengers!!! Marvel knocked it out of the park with this trailer, and I seriously can’t stop watching it. The scenes with the entire team in one room are just more than my Fan Boy brain can handle, especially that shot of Iron Man and Captain America looking at the rest of the team. It’s seriously an Avengers comic book come to life. Do me a favor, go watch it ASAP!!!
The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk and Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, is scheduled to premiere on May 4, 2012.

EW Cover Story “Life After LOST”
The Blot had a really pleasant surprise waiting for him in his mailbox last weekend, the newest issue of Entertainment Weekly with a LOST cover story! Almost 1 year after the show’s series finale aired on ABC, EW interviewed the cast to examine what “Life After LOST” meant to them. While I loved the fact that EW unexpectedly released an all new LOST cover, I thought the article itself was pretty lacking (especially for a cover story). In fact, besides a few quotes most of the information in the article is old news, especially to LOST’s hardcore fandom who get all of their information from this thing I like to call “the internet.” Nevertheless, while I was disappointed in the article I’ll take a bad LOST cover story any day of the week. At the end of the day, so long as the stars of LOST are still gracing the covers of major weekly magazines it means the show is still relevant in the ever changing world of pop culture.

Captain America: The First Avenger First Look - Chris Evans as Captain America Hi-Res Photo
The November 5, 2010 issue of Entertainment Weekly gives the world its official first look at Chris Evans as Captain Amierca. While the cover image looks great, of all the upcoming big budget super hero films on the 2011/2012 slate, The Blot’s the most worried about Captain America: The First Avenger. Click on the high resolution photo below for an incredibly detailed look at Marvel Comics' First Avenger:
There’s just something about Captain America: The First Avenger and the early still photos I’ve seen that leaves me with an uneasy feeling. At the end of the day, I really just hope this film doesn’t wreck Marvel’s upcoming Avengers franchise of films.
Marvel Comics’ live action Captain America film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 22, 2011.

Green Lantern Motion Picture First Look - Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern Hi-Res Photo
San Diego Comic-Con 2010 is almost upon us, and fans lucky enough to sit in the Green Lantern live action movie panel are in form some killer surprises I’m sure. For the rest of us there’s the cover to this week’s Entertainment Weekly Special Comic-Con Preview, which features the first ever photo of Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern! Click on the high resolution photo below for an incredibly detailed look at the Emerald Warrior:

While I don’t hate the character’s all CG look, I’m not really a fan of it either. And I really hate all the unnecessary texture and ribbing the films’ special effects team added to GL’s classic look. I don’t know about you, but The Blot kinda likes my superheroes in spandex.
Warner Bros.’ live action adaptation of the DC Comics' comic book Green Lantern is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 17, 2011.

EW.com - LOST: Exclusive Portraits of the Dead

Entertainment Weekly had a very cool article in last week’s collector’s edition LOST issue in which they interviewed actors whose characters had been killed on LOST. As a follow up to that article, EW.com is now featuring an article entitled LOST: 9 Exclusive Portraits of the Dead.

This online exclusive salutes the characters we’ve and “Lost” over the years, including Juliet, Boone, Michael, Charlotte and many more. To read what Elizabeth Mitchell and all of these other talented actors had to say about their on screen deaths, pick up Entertainment Weekly’s collector's edition LOST issue here (while supplies last!).

The series finale of LOST airs this Sunday night at 9/8c on ABC.

Entertainment Weekly’s 11 Collectible The End of LOST Covers

This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly is subtitled the “LOST Special Collector’s Edition,” and features a pretty comprehensive series finale preview which should help even the most novice of LOST fans get caught up before the airing of the show’s final episode on May 23rd. To help spark even more excitement over “The End of LOST,” EW is releasing 11 different covers spotlighting 10 fan favorites.

Let me just apologize now to all the readers out there who don’t watch LOST. With a little over a week left until the show’s sixth and final season finale airs, there’s going to be a lot of LOST coverage on The Blot Says… What can I say, I’m obsessed! Plus, everyone and their mother is trying to cash in on the LOST craze sweeping the planet.

Thankfully I didn’t have to pick which cover to buy since I’m an Entertainment Weekly subscriber. My copy of issue #1102 came with the Daniel Dae Kim / Jin cover and I couldn’t be happier. But, if you want to collect all 11 The End of LOST EW collector’s covers, head over to the EW.com back issue store and stock up!

Lost on the Cover of Entertainment Weekly 2 out of the Last 3 Weeks
As a huge Lost fan, The Blot always enjoys seeing the cast of Lost on a magazine’s cover, especially when that magazine is Entertainment Weekly (the only magazine I actually subscribe to). But I was shocked to see Lost’s Matthew Fox and Emilie de Ravin grace the cover of the preeminent entertainment magazine just two issues after the show’s last cover feature. I love Lost as much as the next guy, but it hasn’t always been the type of ratings juggernaut to garner a magazine’s cover story two out of three weeks.

With that being said, Lost has definitely had a resurgence in popularity this year entering its sixth and final season. Ratings are finally on an upswing and the show seems to be a legit pop culture phenomenon touching both diehard fans and casual observers. Which all points to reasons why Entertainment Weekly chose the show to grace its cover twice in three weeks. The only really shocking aspect of Lost’s most recent EW cover is its choice of actors.

Matthew Fox makes sense, but never in a million years would I have guessed Emilie de Ravin would be the other actor featured in a Lost photo shoot. I’m actually glad they chose Emilie over Evangeline Lilly. It’s a nice change of pace and pays tribute to the importance of de Ravin’s Claire Lost Season 6, a character I missed greatly during disappearance from Season 5.
Entertainment Weekly Issue #1091, which sports a Lost cover featuring Matthew Fox and Emile de Ravin, has a cover date of February 26, 2010 and is on newsstands now. Entertainment Weekly Issue #1088, which features a Lost cover including pictures of Matthew Fox, Terry O’Quinn, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Ian Somerhalder and Yunjin Kim, has a cover date of February 5, 2010 and is now probably gone from newsstands.

The Cast of How I Met Your Mother in EW’s The Best of 2008
Since there was no new episode of How I Met Your Mother this week, I wanted to direct everyone’s attention to a pretty cool article featuring the cast of How I Met Your Mother in this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly. "How I Met Your Mother Cast in The Best of 2008" is a 9 page photo spread in Entertainment Weekly’s "The Best and Worst of 2008" issue that reenacts some of the year’s most memorable moments memorably using the cast of HIMYM (Alyson Hannigan, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Colbie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris) in all of the scene's key roles.

Star Trek One Sheet Black and White Character Movie Posters
What is the deal with movie posters of just a character’s face this winter? Both Star Trek and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button have them plastered all over movie theaters nationwide. I have to give the edge to the Star Trek one sheet character movie posters because the black and white effect is a nice touch. Four different character promo posters have been released so far, Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Eric Bana as the villain Nero and Zoe Saldana as Uhura.

Here is a fascinating bit of trivia for everyone. In Entertainment Weekly’s almost 20 year history only one person has been featured on the magazine’s cover in consecutive weeks. Do you know who it is? The only hint The Blot is giving is that the answer obviously has something to do with this post…for the answer see below.

The answer is...Zachary Quinto! He was first featured on the October 24, 2008 issue's cover next to Chris Pine as the stars of the upcoming film Star Trek and the very next week he was featured as one of the cast members of the television show Heroes on the October 31, 2008 issue's cover. I’m a little shocked that in 18 years the weekly magazine had never before featured the same entertainer two weeks in a row and then they decide to do it with an actor who although his star is definitely on the rise, has really not had much of a career to date. While not significant in any way, it is a pretty cool fact. I just hope this fact isn’t one of his greatest achievements when this great young actor’s career is all said and done.
Star Trek premieres on Friday, May 8, 2009.
