Marvel's Thor Movie Screen Print by Matt Ferguson

Marvel's Thor Standard Edition Movie Screen Print by Matt Ferguson

Grey Matter Art has teamed up with artist Matt Ferguson to produce their newest Marvel Studios limited edition screen print, Thor! Based on the hit 2011 live action film, this killer Thor design is the perfect companion piece to Ferguson’s first movie poster with GMA, Iron Man (seen here). While Thor is clearly the focal point of this design, I love the way Loki is ominous towering over the Odinson. The poster does a great job acknowledging that Loki is as much the star of the film as Thor.

Marvel's Thor Foil Variant Movie Screen Print by Matt Ferguson

Matt explained his thought process behind this fantastic screen print, “Thor is one of the best subjects to make a poster about because it is unique film in the Marvel Universe. I love the cosmic aspect to the setting crossed with a strong fantasy vibe. I tried to get that across in my poster by using the rainbow bridge and Bifrost. I also wanted the composition to fit in with the Iron Man poster I have already produced for Grey Matter Art but give the art a more pulpy sci-fi edge.”

Marvel's Thor Variant Movie Screen Print by Matt Ferguson

Thor by Matt Ferguson is a 24”x36” hand numbered Marvel screen print. The Regular Edition is limited to 250 pieces and retails for $50, while the Variant is limited to 150 pieces and retails for $70. There’s also a killer Foil Variant that is also limited to 150 pieces and retails for $100. Although all three movie posters dropped yesterday (August 20th), a small number of each design is still currently available at the Grey Matter Art online store. Act fast though, as this print is sure to sell out very soon!

Marvel Movie Poster Series by DaveWill

Marvel Movie Poster Series by DaveWill - The Avengers Print

The Blot was recently introduced to the amazing work of British artist Dave Williams (aka DaveWill), and boy is he producing some really fun movie prints. I just wish I’d found out about him before his Marvel Movie Poster Series sold out! DaveWill is a graphic designer/illustrator from Liverpool, UK who loves to design alternative movie posters in his spare time. Over the past year he’s designed movie posters for X-Men: First Class, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor and now The Avengers!

Marvel Movie Poster Series by DaveWill - Captain America: The First Avenger Print

While all four posters are great, I especially like DaveWill’s designs for Thor and X-Men: First Class because of their retro feel. The SHILED logo in The Avengers poster is also pretty awesome.  Each movie poster in DaveWill’s Marvel Movie Poster Series has been released as an 18”x24” print on 350gsm stock. Only 10 prints of each Marvel movie poster were produced and they retailed for around $40, but unfortunately they’re all gone now. Keep your eyes peeled to DaveWill’s official website for future releases in this exciting series.

The Avengers Cosbaby Mini Figure Series

Marvel Avengers Assemble Cosbaby Series - Iron Man [Mark V], Tony Stark, Thor, Loki, Captain America and the Red Skull

To celebrate the launch of The Avengers movie from Marvel Studio in 2012, Hot Toys is releasing the Marvel Avengers Assemble Cosbaby Series! Featuring characters from Iron Man 2, Thor and the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger, the Avengers Assemble Cosbaby Series includes Iron Man [Mark V], Tony Stark, Thor, Loki, Captain America and the Red Skull. The Blot’s been wondering when we’d get another super hero movie series from Hot Toys, and this Avengers line up definitely doesn’t disappoint! But do we really need more Iron Man Cosbaby figures after 2 full Iron Man series?

To be honest, I half expected to see a Green Lantern movie series, but these will do just nicely instead! No word yet on when these 3” CosBaby figures will be hitting store shelves, but I would imagine it’ll happen sometime before the end of the summer. Each figure comes packed on a 4-color blister card and will retail for around $10.

New Thor One Sheet Movie Poster

Thor Theatrical One Sheet Movie Poster

Evidently, Thor has debuted a week early in select International theaters already, and The Blot had absolutely no idea! When was the last time a big budget American film first debuted anywhere other than in the US? Regardless, these early viewings mean the Marvel Comics film has already received a significant number of reviews on RottenTomatoes.com (34 in total) and currently has a 94% freshness rating! How great is that!?!

Thor is definitely the comic book adaptation The Blot is looking forward to the most this summer, and I’m glad to hear the film is living up to its hype. To help get you in the mood for Thor’s North American theatrical release next week, check out the film’s latest one sheet movie poster. As the poster says, “Courage Is Immortal,” and so is Chris Hemsworth’s Thor! I just wish the marketing team of X-Men: First Class could take lessons from Thor’s marketing team. Every Thor one sheet is better than the last!

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1 - Chris Hemsworth as Thor, The God of Thunder

Building upon the Thor Portrait Movie Poster Set released earlier this month, the marketing team behind Marvel’s upcoming film Thor has released a somewhat new set of character movie posters. The new Thor Character Movie Poster Set includes six different one sheets, each featuring a primary cast member of the film (Thor, Odin, Loki, Jane Foster, Heimdall and Sif), and does so with an interesting muted color scheme.

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1 - Anthony Hopkins as Odin, The King of Asgard

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1 - Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, The Woman of Science

The Blot likes how they’ve highlighted each character’s primary color and they did a great job creating a unique tag line for each poster, especially with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. The Blot had no idea what they would use for a poster of her, but you knew Natalie would have to play a major part of the film’s marketing campaign. It’s just hard when she’s the lone human surrounded by a bunch of really cool Norse gods. I don’t know about you, but at this point Thor is still at the top of my list of must see comic book movies coming out during the summer of 2011.

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1 - Tom Hiddleston as Loki, The God of Mischief

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1 - Idris Elba as Heimdall, The Guardian of Worlds

Thor Character Movie Poster Set 1 - Jaimie Alexander as Sif, The Goddess of War

Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, and Jaimie Alexander as Sif.

Thor International One Sheet Movie Posters

Thor International One Sheet Movie Poster

Marvel released their first traditional one sheet movie posters for this summer’s Thor, and they look awesome. This is how you make a cool comic book live action movie poster (hint, hint X-Men: First Class). I love how both of these international movie posters feature most of the film’s primary cast members and each throws in a little action without it over powering the posters. My favorite Thor poster to date is the one above, which features Chris Hemsworth striking Thor’s trademark pose. There’s just something about seeing him striking Mjolnir to the ground that makes him feel like Thor to me.

Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston, premieres in theaters nationwide on May 6, 2011.

Thor Movie Pop! Marvel Vinyl Figures by Funko - Thor & Loki

While we’ve know these cute movie versions of Thor and Loki would be coming soon, now we know they’ll be hitting stores in April 2011! Funko did a great job recreating Thor and Loki’s looks from Marvel’s upcoming live action Thor movie, and hopefully these figures will be as popular as the film. Each Thor Movie Pop! Marvel vinyl figure bobble head stands 3.75” tall, has a rotating head and comes in a displayable window box. You can purchase both of these Thor Movie vinyl figure bobble heads from Entertainment Earth here for $9.99 each.

Thor Portrait Movie Poster Set

Thor The God of Thunder Portrait One Sheet Movie Poster

We’re inching closer and closer to the summer of 2011 and four months of non-stop big budget comic book movies. At this point, the one comic book adaptation The Blot’s looking forward to the most is Thor, and these simple portrait character one sheet movie posters do a great job of reinforcing that feeling. I love that Marvel’s finally incorporating Thor’s tag line, “The God of Thunder,” into the film’s marketing. And how great does Chris Hemsworth look as Thor!?! Hemsworth has Thor’s stare, which combines the Norse god’s cocky arrogance with anger, down perfectly, and from what I've seen in the film's trailers, he has done a great job with Thor's voice as well.

Thor Portrait Character One Sheet Movie Poster Set
Click on the photo above for a more detailed look
The four piece Thor portrait set/banner seen here is also pretty striking. However, I am surprised they included Idris Elba’s Heimdall instead of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in the poster set. Maybe this means we’ll be getting a villains portrait movie poster set at a later date, but I kind of doubt it. Either way, I want to see more of Thor and his fellow Asgardian gods ASAP!

Thor premieres in theaters nationwide on May 6, 2011.

New Thor Full Length Movie Trailer

Of all the super heroes with movies coming out this summer, Thor is easily my least favorite. The Blot’s just never been all that into his comics. I’ve tried to like him over the years, but his stories have never been able to keep my interest long term. That’s why it’s so surprising that Thor is the comic book adaptation I’m looking forward to the most! How can you not be excited for this movie after seeing Thor’s first full length trailer above. Everything about this film looks amazing. It’s visually stunning, and I think Marvel’s unique brand of Norse mythology is made for the silver screen. This film is going to do crazy business at the theater, mark my words.

Thor premiers in theaters worldwide on May 6, 2011.

First Look: Pop! Marvel Bobble Head Vinyl Figures by Funko

Pop! Marvel Bobble Head Vinyl Figures by Funko - Movie Thor & Movie Loki

Toy Fair 2011 just took place in New York City and there is tons of exciting toy news hitting the internet. At the top of that list is Funko’s upcoming line of Pop! Marvel Bobble Head Vinyl Figures. The Blot was a little bummed to learn the long rumored Pop! Marvel figures would be bobble heads, but at least they don’t have stands like the previously announced Pop! Star Wars Bobble Head Vinyl Figures.

Pop! Marvel Bobble Head Vinyl Figures by Funko - Movie Thor, Movie Loki, Captain America, Iron Man & Hulk

So far all we know about this new line of toys is the first two figures released will be Thor movie versions of Thor and Loki. After that you can expect the usual Marvel heroes to be released, including Captain America, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. The Blot will be sure to post more details about Funko’s upcoming Pop! Marvel line as soon as they become available.

Thor Movie Screen Print by Olly Moss

Thor Movie Screen Print by Olly Moss

Olly Moss was commissioned by Craig Kyle and Kevin Feige at Marvel Pictures to create a special print for the cast and crew of the upcoming Thor live action movie. Olly even got to visit the set, read the script and check out all the story boards and concept art…what an incredible opportunity!

Rumor has it 100 prints were created and none will be available to the public. It was also confirmed by Olly on Twitter that there will not be a second colorway created to be sold to the public. If any of these ever do show up for sale, I assume they’ll end up fetching a pretty penny. At least we can all drool over a photo of this beautiful Thor screen print together!

Thor Teaser Movie Poster

Thor One Sheet Teaser Movie Poster

Yesterday, Marvel released the first of what I am sure will be many one sheet movie posters for their upcoming live action summer movie Thor. For a teaser poster they really gave us a killer “first look” at Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Is it me or does Mjolnir look gigantic in this poster? The Blot can’t wait to see more!

Thor will debut in theaters sometime in May 2011.

New Thor Hi-Res Official Movie Photos

Now that the filming of Thor is underway, Marvel is releasing more and more official movie stills of characters from the film. First up is a very Excalibur like photo featuring Chris Hemsworth as Donald Blake attempting to pull Thor's mighty hammer Mjolnir out of a rock.

Thor Motion Picture Official Photo - Chris Hemsworth as Donald Blake/Thor
Next up is the second photo featuring Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Anthony Hopkins as Thor’s father Odin. I don’t know about you guys think, but these photos are just plain beautiful! I just really love the shine everyone’s armor has…do we think that’s natural or computer enhanced!?!

Thor Motion Picture Official Photo - Chris Hemsworth as Thor & Anthony Hopkins as Odin
And last but not least is a photo of Thor, Odin, Loki, Frigga and the Warriors Three all standing in Odin’s Hall of Asgard. This is definitely the coolest picture of the three, and from my moles at San Diego Comic-Con it sounds like the Marvel booth features an exact replica of Odin throne. I can only imagine the types of pictures being taken there this weekend!

SDCC 2010 Exclusive Thor & Captain America: The First Avenger Mini One Sheet Movie Posters

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Thor Concept Artwork Mini One Sheet Movie Poster
This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, Marvel Comics will be giving away two exclusive mini one sheet movie posters featuring concept artwork from their upcoming movies Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger! Both mini one sheet theatrical posters look beautiful, don’t they? The Blot just hopes the movies can look even half as good as these SDCC posters.

Thor Motion Picture First Look - Official Photo of Thor, Odin & Loki

Earlier today Marvel released the first official photo from their upcoming live action comic book adaptation Thor, which features Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. (link) This is actually our second look at Hemsworth as Thor, since an unofficial photo leaked a few months ago. The Blot’s not 100% sold on this film yet, and my uneasiness has actually grown since seeing the photo below. To me, the characters look like something out of that horrible Clash of the Titans remake that premiered earlier this summer.

Thor Motion Picture First Look - Official Photo of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Hopkins as Odin & Tom Hiddleston as Loki
From Marvel’s official press release: “Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the epic adventure Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.”

Thor is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 6, 2011.

Thor Motion Picture First Look - Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Late last week Marvel Studios and Paramount released the very first photo of Chris Hemsworth in costume as the mighty Thor. The Blot was very leery when Marvel first announced they would be making a live action Thor move, but does Hemsworth look great as the Norse God of Thunder or what? I am shocked they chose to use Thor’s modern look (designed by Olivier Coipel) over his more traditional look, but as long as he’s got his winged helmet I’ll be a happy comic book fan.

Marvel Announces Schedule of Future Movie Releases

Iron ManMultiple sources are reporting that yesterday at its annual stockholders meeting Marvel announced its lineup of future comic book related, super hero movies and when they would be released in theaters. This coincides nicely with The Blot’s Iron Man post yesterday, since Marvel confirmed that Iron Man 2 is going to be produced and would hit theaters April 30, 2010. While “no casting decisions were made at the announcement, Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has said he’s interested in reprising his role and co-star Gwyneth Paltrow has said she is signed on for two more installments.” (link)

Captain America StatueAlso in the works is Thor, a movie based on the Norse god and directed by Matthew Vaughn, which is scheduled for released on June 4th, 2010. Following that, “Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer – a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.” (link)

The Avengers 41st Anniversary Lithograph by George Perez
The Mighty Thor StatueThe Avengers movie was hinted at by a Samuel L. Jackson cameo (as Nick Fury), which appeared at the end of Iron Man’s closing credits. If you haven’t already seen Iron Man I strongly urge you to sit through the movie’s closing credits for this bonus scene between Jackson’s Fury and Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. I didn’t wait around and got stuck watching the scene from a blurry YouTube clip, which I can promise you is not the same as watching it in the theater.
