A Life Well Wasted “Memory” Screen Print by Olly Moss

Wow, after almost a ten year hiatus Robert Ashley’s podcast “A Life Well Wasted” is back for its eighth episode. In Episode 8, entitled “Memory”, Robert Ashley finds out what it takes to speedrun games in a blindfold, visits a museum in Moscow dedicated to Soviet-era arcade machines, and talks to a group of friends about a childhood summer spent dreaming up a game of their own.

But what makes the release of Episode 8 really exciting is that it means Olly Moss is also back!!! The Blot was just discussing on Twitter how much I miss seeing new artwork from Olly (even his odd Garfield phase) and would kill for a new Moss print. Well guess what!?! Now we’ve got one! Moss has designed the cover art for each episode of A Life Well Wasted, which is then released as a matching screen print.  It’s crazy to think this is the first Olly Moss print release in almost 5 years!

“Memory” by Olly Moss is an 18”x24” A Life Well Wasted 4 color screen print. This Timed Edition print is available for pre-order at ALifeWellWasted.com from now through 12pm ET on Monday, December 19th. The print is $75 with US shipping included or $95 with international shipping.

Avengers: Infinity War “Pals” 5x5 Giclee Print Series by Olly Moss

The Blot squealed for joy earlier today when I learned that Olly Moss had released one of his super popular 5”x5” print series based on Marvel’s Avenges: Infinity War!!! For months now fans have been begging Olly for new prints, and the UK artist went all out with 12 adorable designs. What better way to commemorate the opening weekend of Avengers: Infinity War than with new Olly Moss art!?!

The Avengers: Infinity War 5”x5” Giclee Print Series by Olly Moss is entitled “Pals”, and includes individual prints of Captain America, Winter Solider, The Falcon, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther, The Vision, Thor and The Scarlet Witch. But that’s not all! If you pre-order a full set of all 12 prints, you’ll also receive a mystery 13th print! The Blot’s holding out hope for Thanos, but maybe it’s Nick Fury or Stan Lee?

Each hand numbered “Pals” giclée print is printed on fine art watercolor paper and comes hand numbered by the artist. Die Hard Movie Poster Screen Print by Olly Moss x Mondo

He’s back!!! Yes, you read that right. Mondo is releasing a freaking new Olly Moss screen print! Check out this sick new movie poster for the classic 1988 action film, Die Hard. As Mondo explained, “Olly's wit and style is on full display here, and we couldn't be more excited about this one.”

Harry Potter Print Series by Olly Moss

When Olly Moss teased on his Twitter account last Monday that he had a huge drop coming later in the week he wasn’t messing around! Yesterday, Olly announced he’d collaborated with Pottermore to release a series of officially licensed Harry Potter prints based on the iconic series of fantasy novels. Originally commissioned as covers exclusive to the German Harry Potter audio books, these beautiful images designed in Olly’s signature style can now be purchased as 16”x24” hand numbered giclee art prints.

Olly has released a different print for each book in the beloved Harry Potter series – that’s seven prints in all! What’s awesome about this new HP series is that it is a time edition, meaning any orders placed between now and 3pm BST on Monday, October 25th, at Olly Moss’ online store will be guaranteed a print. Each novel’s print size will then be based on the orders placed.

NYCC 16 Exclusive Garfield “Garf” Print by Olly Moss x Bottleneck Gallery

Not only has Bottleneck Gallery teamed up with PAWS to start releasing officially licensed Garfield prints, but they’ve teamed up with some of the most popular screen print artists in the world to work on the iconic orange cat! For their first PAWS collaboration, Bottleneck Gallery is releasing this fantastic Garfield print by Olly Moss entitled “Garf”. Evidently Garfield was a passion project for Olly and he was given free range to do anything he wanted. It was even approved by Garfield creator Jim Davis!

The New York Comic Con 2016 Exclusive “Garf” by Olly Moss is a 12”x36” giclee print. Limited to just 100 pieces, collectors can purchase the print on Friday, October 7th, at the Bottleneck Gallery NYCC booth #2171 for $50.

Spaceballs “The Schwartz Awakens” Screen Print Series by Joshua Budich

And with this release the screen print scene has officially gone meta! Just as Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs is a parody of Star Wars, this hilarious new Spaceballs “The Schwartz Awakens” screen print series by Joshua Budich is a parody of Olly Moss’ now iconic Star Wars screen print series for the original trilogy (seen here). What The Blot really loves about this release, produced by Nakatomi Inc., is that everyone involved has totally embraced the fact that this is a send up of Moss’ original designs much in the same vein Spaceballs imitates Star Wars and so many iconic sci-films. In turn these prints can also be interpreted as an interesting commentary on art and the movie poster/screen print scene in general.

The Spaceballs “The Schwartz Awakens” Screen Print Series by Joshua Budich goes on sale at 2pm CST today, Wednesday, December 9th, at the Nakatomi online store. Each movie poster is an 18”x24” 4 color screen print on natural paper. Individual prints will be $30 each, while full sets of all three prints (with matching numbers) will also be available for just $80. Guardians of the Galaxy Rocket Raccoon & Groot Print Set by Olly Moss

Last Monday Olly Moss surprised the print world by dropping these awesome Rocket Raccoon and Groot giclee prints entitled “What a bunch of a-holes” based on Marvel’s hit summer blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy! Rocket and Groot never looked so good! This unannounced, timed released print set was only available for two hours, so I can only imagine the number of disappointed Moss fans out there who missed this drop. Thankfully The Blot found out just in time and scored a set of these Guardians of the Galaxy prints for myself! I can’t wait to find out just how many sets were sold in a 2 hour period.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Print Set “What a bunch of a-holes” by Olly Moss includes two 5”x5” giclee prints featuring Rocket Racoon and Groot. Each hand numbered print is printed on heavy, textured watercolor paper, and is made with archival inks. These GotG sets were sold exclusively at Olly Moss’ online store for just $20.

Batman Black and White The Penguin T-Shirt by Olly Moss

It’s been way too long since The Blot’s featured the artwork of Olly Moss here on TheBlotSays.com. So of course I have to highlight the fact that he’s designed the cover to next week’s Batman Black and White #3! This is the second DC Comics cover Olly’s designed in the past year and man is it awesome. I love how Olly turned Batman’s chest emblem into the Penguin’s umbrella. It’s a beautiful monochromatic design that would make an epic screen print!

But that’s not all… DC Comics instantly realized the awesomeness of Olly’s Batman Black and White The Penguin design and decided to turn it into a t-shirt right away! Produced by Graphitti Designs, the “Batman / Penguin” T-Shirt by Olly Moss features the cover artwork of Batman Black and White #3 on a black tee. The “Batman / Penguin” t-shirt will be available in comic book specialty stores worldwide soon in sizes S-XL for $18.95 and size XXL for $21.95. And you can pick up Batman Black and White #3, which features Olly’s cover artwork, beginning Wednesday, November 6th, for $4.99 each.

Mondo’s SDCC 13 Exclusive Prints by Olly Moss, Martin Ansin & Drew Struzan!

San Diego Comic-Con 2013 is less than a week away and Mondo just unveiled its line-up of San Diego Comic-Con 2013 exclusives! Mondo’s released some amazing exclusives in the past, but this year’s line-up of artists is seriously second to none. It includes legendary movie poster artist Drew Struzan and screen print superstars Olly Moss and Martin Ansin!

On Thursday, July 18th, Martin Ansin will be signing his Conan the Barbarian 24”x36” hand numbered screen print. The standard edition has a limited edition run size of 450 pieces and retails for $50, while the variant has a limited edition run size of 225 pieces and retails for $75.

On Friday, July 19th, Drew Struzan will be signing his Stephen King’s The Dark Tower 20”x36” 22 color hand numbered screen print. The print has a limited edition run size of 450 pieces and retails for $275.

Lastly, on Saturday, July 20th, Olly Moss will be signing his brand new Studio Ghibli variants for Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. Spirited Away ($90) is a 20"x36" hand numbered screen print with a limited edition run size of 225 pieces. Thor: The Dark World Screen Print by Olly Moss

Has it really been over two years since Olly Moss was commissioned to design a Thor screen print as the wrap gift for the cast and crew of Marvel’s first live action Thor movie!?! Well, Thor: The Dark World (aka Thor 2) will be released later this year and once again Olly was invited to design the wrap gift for the film’s cast and crew. How awesome is that!?! Even cooler is Olly was “paid” for his work with a real Mjolnir! The Blot is all kinds of jealous.

What’s particularly bad ass about this Thor: The Dark World screen print is that Olly made a unique poster for each principal cast member with their character as the focal point of the poster. As you can see above there’s Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Anthony Hopkins’ Odin and Idris Elba’s Heimdall.

The Lord of the Rings Screen Prints by Olly Moss

Let’s be honest…if you’re reading this you’re probably not going to be able to snag one of these amazing The Lord of the Rings screen prints by Olly Moss from Mondo. Most Mondo prints sell out instantly, and when you add Olly’s name they sell out even faster (if that’s even humanily possible). Book Review: Silhouettes From Popular Culture by Olly Moss

On May 7th, 2011 the doors opened at Gallery 1988 for Olly Moss’ very first solo art show entitled “Paper Cuts.” This revolutionary art show featured over 200 silhouettes of popular characters from all areas of pop culture, including cartoons, movies, television, comic books and video games. So many different genres were included, and the show, like everything Olly touches, was a raging success! Before the show opened no one knew what Olly was working on, and I can remember being glued to my computer waiting for the first photos from the gallery to pop up on the internet. “Paper Cuts” quickly sold out and the art world couldn’t stop talking about Olly totally unexpected show.

The Blot’s been a huge fan of Olly’s work since his very first Threadless design, and I’m lucky to say I own a number of his limited edition screen prints. While I can’t really explain why his minimalistic style is so powerful, his “Paper Cuts” show is a perfect example of how he can do so much with so little! Thankfully, even those of us unable to attend the show can now relive the experience over and over again by reading Olly’s new hardcover book from Titan Books, Silhouettes From Popular Culture.

The minute I heard Silhouettes From Popular Culture was being published I knew I had to have a copy! This beautiful 144 page hardbound book includes most of the silhouettes from Moss’ first solo show and honestly, the cover alone is worth the purchase of the book! I love its textured feel and gold embossing. But the real fun comes in when you start flipping the pages and realizing you can identify each character in the book solely off of their all black (or white) silhouette.

Olly’s definitely turned the Victorian art of silhouette portraits on its head! The last time I saw a proper silhouette was probably when my parents had one made of me at the age of 4. Do they even still do that anymore? Even though I’m a diehard Olly Moss fan, I can honestly say this book is fun for anyone that’s a fan of pop culture. It’s exciting just to see what characters Olly chose to turn into a silhouette and from what genre they came.

The Dark Knight Rises Screen Print & SDCC 12 Exclusive Variant by Olly Moss

This Wednesday, July 18th, Mondo is releasing an officially licensed The Dark Knight Rises screen print by Olly Moss! I could go on and on about how amazing this poster is and how awesome Olly’s artwork is, but really what’s the point? You all already know that. Instead, I’ll let you know what makes this release extra special. Instead of Olly’s typical limited edition instant sell outs, Mondo and Olly have decided to make this a timed edition.

Now don’t think “timed edition” means an unlimited run. It means anyone who orders one within the 24 hour period it’ll be made available will be able to buy one. As opposed to an open edition print where they keep printing copies for years, this release will still be limited edition. It’s just the run size won’t be set until the sales period ends. This way everyone can finally get their hands on an Olly Moss The Dark Knight Rises print!

The Dark Knight Rises by Olly Moss is a 16”x24” screen print on cream stock, and will go on sale for 24 hours beginning at 12:01am CST Wednesday, July 18th, for $40 at Mondo’s online store. SDCC 12 Exclusive “Defective Comics” Batman Screen Print Set by Olly Moss x Daniel Danger

Now The Blot doesn’t know all that much about these “Defective Comics” screen prints released by Olly Moss and Daniel Danger at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, but I love them nevertheless! Each print features a silhouette of the Dark Knight atop an all too familiar location: Pizza Hut and Jiffy Lube. Not exactly typical locations for Batman to be hunting his prey, but they make for excellent images from the king of screen prints. These sold out instantly this morning when they went on sale at Kevin Tong’s SDCC booth, but head to eBay where I’m sure you’ll be able to find more than a few up for sale at ridiculous prices.

SDCC 12 Exclusive Adventure Time “Finn” Screen Print by Olly Moss

Oh to be at San Diego Comic-Con! We’re only two days in and Mondo has been absolutely dominating the convention. Every day they’ve released multiple epic pop culture inspired screen prints covering everything from comic books, cartoons, movies and television shows. For instance, earlier today they released this fun Adventure Time print by Olly Moss entitled “Finn.” I guess one of these days I need to sit down and actually watch an episode of Adventure Time.

Black Widow The Avengers Screen Print by Olly Moss

The Blot literally squealed when I heard the news Mondo would be releasing a series of prints based on Marvel’s soon to be summer blockbuster The Avengers! Mondo has a long history of releasing amazing screen printed movie posters for Marvel’s live action films, and if the first print Avengers print released later today is any indication this series this is going to be sick! I absolutely love the retro feel of Olly Moss’ Black Widow print. From the smoking gun that makes up Natasha’s mouth and nose, to the brushstroke hair and awesome font this print is just picture perfect!

There will be seven posters produced in all for Mondo’s The Avengers Screen Print Series, one for each member of the team and one for the movie itself. Black Widow by Olly Moss is a 24”x36” hand numbered screen print with a limited edition run size of 320 pieces. The print will retail for $45 and go on sale at a random time on today, Thursday, April 19th, at the Mondo online store.

“The Bat” Venture Bros. Screen Print by Olly Moss

After debuting at Gallery1988’s [adult swim] show earlier this month, Olly Moss’ awesome Venture Bros. screen print “The Bat” will finally be going on sale to the general public at a random time today, Friday, January 27th at Postersandtoys.com. Based on Frank Miller’s iconic cover to The Dark Knight Returns #1, and features Hank Venture as The Bat!

“The Bat” by Olly Moss is a 16”x24” screen prints with a limited edition run size of 100 prints. These prints will retail for $60 but good luck getting one. Like all Moss releases it is sure to sell out in a number of seconds.

My Neighbor Totoro Screen Print by Olly Moss

The Blot was really wavering on blogging about this one. While I love Olly Moss’ work, I’m not into anime so this new Mondo screen print series with legendary Studio Ghibli really means nothing to me. But fans seem to be going crazy for this Olly poster for the classic Hayao Miyazaki film My Neighbor Totoro, so how could I ignore it completely? There are a lot more details in this print than I’m used to in a Moss print, but if Miyazaki’s fans are happy then so am I.

The Mondo x Studio Ghibli Series kicks off today with the My Neighbor Totoro print by Olly Moss. This is a 20”x36” hand numbered screen print, has a limited edition run size of 420 pieces and will retail for $50 each. There is also a Green Variant My Neighbor Totoro screen print that has a limited edition run size of 170 pieces and will retail for $90. This go on sale at a random time today, Friday, December 16th, at the Mondo online store.
