Toy Dungeon Studios x Danicus Prime King Sputtz & Skullycle Resin Figures

Danicus Prime and Toy Dungeon Studios bring you two all new custom resin figures, King Sputtz and Skullycle! King Sputtz, the nemesis to King Sproggy, is the Pharaoh who rules over all of the lower parts of their moon world, Oam-Peltu. He is also quite hell-bent on over throwing King Sproggy, the Sproglits one true and rightful ruler. Hand cast and painted, King Sputtz measures 3” without his crown. Complete with crown and Jewel of The Moon, this piece was specifically made for Toy Dungeon Studios.

Skullycle, the Pirate Lord of the 7 Black Seas, is a former merc who has devoted himself to the Republic of The Dungeon Studios (“TDS”). The moon planet of Oam-Peltu has 7 Black Seas, only three of which are normal. What lurks in those other four black abysses? No one knows but the Pirate Lord, and he ain’t spilling the booty! Hand cast and painted, Skullycle stands 3” tall and includes a belt made of real leather, and a peg leg made of authentic wood.

SDCC 2011 Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Vinyl Figure Toy Review

It’s hard to explain just how excited The Blot was for Funko’s San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Heroes vinyl figure. True story: a friend asked if there were any Funko San Diego Comic-Con 2011 exclusives I wanted. At the time Funko had only announced their Disney exclusives and I replied “the only exclusive I’d have to get is if they release a Metallic Martian Manhunter.” Then on the first day of Comic-Con I got an email telling me Funko's DC Comics exclusives, which of course included a metallic J’onn J’onzz of Mars! I was beyond pumped, and it ended up being one of only two SDCC 2011 exclusives I purchased last summer.

The Martian Manhunter has always been one of my favorite DC characters and as you all know I’m a sucker for a limited edition SDCC exclusive colorways. I’d never actually owned one of Funko’s metallic colorways before, but I thought J’onn’s bold look would really be enhanced by metallic paint. I was so right! The Martian Manhunter’s green skill really pops in metallic paint, and it makes the red of his uniform stand out even more than before. There’s not much to J’onn’s uniform but I think that’s what makes it so timeless.

I am so glad Funko did not go with the Martian Manhunter’s “Brave New World” look with the oval shaped head and military looking cape/collar. However they did use his Brightest Day look, which while not my favorite is way better than the horrible Brave New World look and his new look in the recently rebooted DC Universe (ala Stormwatch #1). There really is only one slight difference between Jonzz’ classic uniform and his Brightest Day uniform, the round Mars looking circle on his chest where his straps meet. But I guess beggars can’t be choosers right? I’m just glad they made a Martian Manhunter Pop! vinyl figure and decided to release him as a Mettalic Variant!

The only real complaint I have about this figure is the sloppy paint job. Sadly, this seems to be a recurring complaint with Funko’s Pop! and Blox toy lines. If Funko could get its quality control in check these toys could be huge! Then again, maybe that’s one of the reasons Funko has been able to keep its prices so long even with relatively low run sizes.

Disney Vinylmation Park Starz Series 1 - Pirates of the Caribbean & Abraham Lincoln

On Friday two more figures from Disney’s Vinylmation Park Starz Series 1 were announced! Park Starz takes classic characters from Disney Theme Parks around the world and reinterprets them as unique collectible vinyl figures. The two new figures announced today are a Skeleton Pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean and Abraham Lincoln, our nation’s 16th president. If you’re wondering what Honest Abe’s connect is to Disney’s theme parks, here’s a little history lesson: The Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction debuted in the State of Illinois pavilion at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair before moving to Disneyland on July 18, 1965. Mr. Lincoln also appears in the Hall of Presidents attraction at Magic Kingdom.

Created by Disney Design Group artists Thomas Scott and Casey Jones, Park Starz Series 1 includes 11 characters and one “mystery chaser” figure. Unlike previous Vinylmation Series, each of the 12 figures in Park Starz Series 1 will be completely different. Disney Vinylmation Park Starz Series 1 will be released in mid to late October 2011.

Nickelodeon x Johnny Cupcakes Collection Episode 1 - SpongeBob, Ren & Stimpy, and Aaahh! Real Monsters

On Saturday Johnny Cupcakes released its first wave of Nickelodeon themed t-shirts! Three t-shirts were included in JCxNICK Wave 1, each featuring a different popular animated television show. There is a blue Aaahh!!! Real Monsters “Screamies” t-shirt, a white SpongeBob SquarePants “Spongebob Bakeoff” t-shirt, and a black Ren & Stimpy “Delivery Drivers” t-shirt.

Each limited edition t-shirt retails for $39.99 and can be purchased from the Johnny Cupcakes online store while supplies last. There are two more Nickelodeon x Johnny Cupcakes waves scheduled over the next four months, but fans can expect even more surprise releases in the coming weeks.

The Blot’s not usually into bobble heads, but every once in a while a set will be released I really like.  And more often than not they’re based on one of my favorite television shows, like these awesome new The Big Bang Theory bobble heads from Funko! Two Big Bang figures were created, a Sheldon Cooper bobble head wearing an awesome Flash t-shirt and a Howard Wolowitz bobble head in a pimp all purple outfit.  I love that BBT is a Warner Bros show because how else could you get an official bobble head wearing official DC Comics t-shirts!  It's little touches like that, which really make these bobble heads great.

Twin Peaks Screen Print by Tim Doyle

The Blue Starlite Mini-Urban Drive-In commissioned Tim Doyle to produce this poster for their summer screenings of Twin Peaks. Yes, you read that right “screenings”!!! You see the Blue Starlite in Austin has been screening the entire Twin Peaks series all summer long. How freaking cool is that? Twin Peaks is one of The Blot’s all time favorite television shows and Tim did a great job encapsulating the look and feel of the series. Plus he crammed so many great details in this image, including Laura Palmer’s face in the tree limbs, the Red Room in the backround and Bob peering out from the floor.

Twin Peaks by Tim Doyle is a 12”x24” signed and numbered screen print, and features a split fountain in the trees. Twin Peaks has a limited edition run size of 100 pieces, some of which are available via the Nakatomi online store for $30 each. And remember, the owls are not what they seem.
