Justice League Unlimited Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

Justice League Unlimited Screen Print by Dave Perillo x Grey Matter Art

The Blot’s jaw hit the ground yesterday when I learned Grey Matter Art had teamed up with artist Dave Perillo to produce an officially licensed screen print for the iconic DC Comics animated series, Justice League Unlimited!!! JLU was a direct sequel to the Justice League animated series, and focused on the majority of the DC Universe. With this release, Dave showcases some of DC’s most iconic characters displayed in their classic animated form. This poster has some of The Blot’s all time favorite characters – Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, Captain Atom, Vixen, Hawk and Dove – making it a must get for sure! The Blot’s always wanted a screen print with Booster in it and it’s finally here!

Justice League Original 7 Fine Art Sculpture by Alex Ross x Factory Entertainment

Justice League Original 7 Fine Art Sculpture by Alex Ross x Factory Entertainment

Check out this beautiful Justice League of America statue based on the breathtaking art of Alex Ross entitled “Original 7”. Produced by Factory Entertainment, the Justice League Original 7 statue captures, in sculpted form, the JLA’s original members in Alex Ross' unique style. It features DC Comics icons Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter.

Justice League Original 7 Fine Art by Alex Ross

With input from Alex, Factory Entertainment’s designers spent many hours studying Ross’ original painting to ensure that they captured its artistry when translating the 2D artwork to a fully sculpted form. The company then selected a master sculptor to effectively render Alex’s vision as a sculptural fine art piece. Each Justice League Original 7 fine art sculpture was then cast in heavyweight polystone and hand-painted.

Each Justice League Original 7 Fine Art Sculpture by Alex Ross comes individually numbered and includes a high quality lithographic print of the original artwork! The massive 22 pound statue measures approximately 16” long x 10” tall x 9” wide. Insane, right!?! This would definitely make the perfect centerpiece to any DC Comics collection. Limited to just 500 pieces, fans can pre-order this true art multiple now at Entertainment Earth for $499.99 here.

The LEGO Batman Movie Poster

The LEGO Batman Movie Theatrical One Sheet Poster

The Blot really loves this latest theatrical one sheet movie poster for Warner Bros’ upcoming film, The LEGO Batman Movie! It features Batman’s entire corner of the DC Comics universe represented in LEGO form, plus some of his Justice League team members like Superman, Wonder Woman and The Flash. This movie is going to be soooo good! Best of all is the poster’s tagline, “Always Be Yourself… Unless You Can Be Batman.”

The LEGO Batman Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 10, 2017 and stars Will Arnett as LEGO Batman, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, Michael Cera as Robin (Dick Grayson), Rosario Dawson as Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Jenny Slate as Harley Quinn, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred and Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face.

DC Comics Mystery Minis Blind Box Series 2 by Funko

DC Comics Mystery Minis Blind Box Series 2 by Funko

While Funko has released some awesome Mystery Mini Series over the past year, my favorite of the bunch is this DC Comics Mystery Mini Blind Box Series 2 and it doesn’t even come out until next year! The Blot is a huge DC Comics fan, and I love the huge variety of characters Funko included in this series. I’m also excited to see a few heroes and villains that haven’t even been given the Pop! treatment yet. The DC Comics Mystery Minis Series 2 includes 2.5” vinyl figures of heroes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and Power Girl, and villains Lex Luthor, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Black Manta and Reverse Flash. It also includes some awesome, super rare variants. It’s so great to see a DC Universe series that doesn’t just focus on the Bat-family of characters!

DC Comics Mystery Minis Blind Box Series 2 Checklist and Ratios by Funko

DC Comics Mystery Minis Blind Box Series 2 is not scheduled to hit store shelves until February 2015, but you can pre-order it now from Entertainment Earth! A full case of twelve DC Comics Mystery Minis Series 2 blind boxes can be purchased for $67.99 here or a 4 pack of blind boxes for $22.99 here.

Coming Soon: Martian Manhunter LEGO x DC Comics Mini Figure

Coming Soon: Martian Manhunter LEGO x DC Comics Mini Figure

Thanks to TheBrickFan.com the world now knows LEGO will soon be releasing a Martian Manhunter LEGO DC Universe Super Hero mini figure! Finally DC Comics fans can almost complete their “Big 7” Justice League line up. Not only is the Martian Manhunter one of The Blot’s favorite super heroes, he’s the heart and soul of the JLA (I don’t care what BS the New 52 tries to tell us). Unfortunately we’re getting the New 52 version of J'onn J'onzz, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

There is one catch with the release of this Martian Manhunter LEGO DC Comics mini fig, the only way to get it is by making a $75 or more purchase from the LEGO store during the month of March (while supplies last). I guess it’s time to finally pick up some of those LEGO box sets I’ve been wanting!

Sonic x DC Comics Justice League Tots Plush Figures

DC Comics x Sonic Justice League Tots Plush Figures - Clark Kent, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter & The Flash

For a limited time only, Sonic is giving away these adorable Justice League of America Tots plush figures with the purchase of a Wacky Pack Kid’s Meal. The Blot’s not usually into happy meal toys, but these little JLA Tatter Tots were too cute to ignore. Collect Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Supergirl, Plastic Man, Clark Kent and the lone villain, Bizarro, reimagined as delicious Sonic tatter tots. This is such a random DC Comics collaboration, but that’s part of the reason I love it so much!

DC Comics x Sonic Justice League Tots Plush Figures - Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Supergirl, Bizarro, Plastic Man & Superman

Strangely enough this release is extremely heavy on Superman family characters with Batman nowhere to be seen. I assume that’s due to a licensing agreement DC has with another fast food chain (McDonalds probably), but the Justice League’s not complete without its Dark Knight! Hopefully if these prove popular enough we might get a second wave of Justice League Tots down the road. I’m not sure how tall these are but each plush figure comes with a pack of Justice League Tots trading cards. I also have no idea how long these will be available at Sonic, so act fast! Hopefully there’s one near you…

SDCC 2011 Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Vinyl Figure Toy Review

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure by Funko

It’s hard to explain just how excited The Blot was for Funko’s San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Heroes vinyl figure. True story: a friend asked if there were any Funko San Diego Comic-Con 2011 exclusives I wanted. At the time Funko had only announced their Disney exclusives and I replied “the only exclusive I’d have to get is if they release a Metallic Martian Manhunter.” Then on the first day of Comic-Con I got an email telling me Funko's DC Comics exclusives, which of course included a metallic J’onn J’onzz of Mars! I was beyond pumped, and it ended up being one of only two SDCC 2011 exclusives I purchased last summer.

The Martian Manhunter has always been one of my favorite DC characters and as you all know I’m a sucker for a limited edition SDCC exclusive colorways. I’d never actually owned one of Funko’s metallic colorways before, but I thought J’onn’s bold look would really be enhanced by metallic paint. I was so right! The Martian Manhunter’s green skill really pops in metallic paint, and it makes the red of his uniform stand out even more than before. There’s not much to J’onn’s uniform but I think that’s what makes it so timeless.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Heroes Vinyl Figure Packaging by Funko

I am so glad Funko did not go with the Martian Manhunter’s “Brave New World” look with the oval shaped head and military looking cape/collar. However they did use his Brightest Day look, which while not my favorite is way better than the horrible Brave New World look and his new look in the recently rebooted DC Universe (ala Stormwatch #1). There really is only one slight difference between Jonzz’ classic uniform and his Brightest Day uniform, the round Mars looking circle on his chest where his straps meet. But I guess beggars can’t be choosers right? I’m just glad they made a Martian Manhunter Pop! vinyl figure and decided to release him as a Mettalic Variant!

The only real complaint I have about this figure is the sloppy paint job. Sadly, this seems to be a recurring complaint with Funko’s Pop! and Blox toy lines. If Funko could get its quality control in check these toys could be huge! Then again, maybe that’s one of the reasons Funko has been able to keep its prices so long even with relatively low run sizes.

The San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Martian Manhunter Metallic Variant DC Universe Pop! Vinyl Figure by Funko stands 3.75” tall, has a rotating head and comes in a displayable window box. The figure has a limited edition run size of 480 pieces and can be purchased here on Amazon.com for just $15.99!

Super Powers Screen Print by Tom Whalen

Sideshow Collectibles x Mondo Super Powers Screen Print by Tom Whalen

The Blot was in shock when I found out about this amazing screen print yesterday. I could not believe it took this long for me to find out about a freaking DC Comics Super Powers print! Kenner’s Super Powers Collection is my all time favorite toy line and it has now been immortalized as a killer print by the talented Tom Whalen. Evidently this print was originally released at Sideshow Collectibles’ San Diego Comic-Con 2011 party to coincide with their recently revealed DC license.

As a fellow lifelong comic book collector, Whalen took great care in making this print true to the classic 1980’s toy line and it shows. He even made to sure to include all 35 heroes and villains from the Super Powers Collection, including the two mail-away figures (The Riddler and Clark Kent). Seeing so many of my favorite DC Universe characters produced in Whalen’s signature style is a real treat! While I’m not the biggest Firestorm fan, his design really shines in Whalen’s two-tone aesthetic.

"Super Powers" by Tom Whalen is a 36”x24” 6 color screen print and was produced by Mondo. It has a limited edition run size of 250 pieces and can be purchased from the Sideshow Collectibles online store for $99.99 each.

DC Universe Pop! Heroes Wave 3 by Funko

DC Universe Pop! Heroes Wave 3 by Funko - Aquaman, Green Arrow, Two-Face, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman & Captain Marvel Vinyl Figures

The long rumored third wave of Funko’s DC Universe Pop! Heroes vinyl figures has officially been announced and The Blot really loves the lineup: Aquaman, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Captain Marvel and the villain Two-Face. It is worth noting that the final image for Hawkman has not been released yet, but I assume he is still in production since they skipped number 17 in the numbering of Wave 3’s packaging. Can you say San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive perhaps?!?

DC Universe Pop! Heroes Wave 3 by Funko - Hawkman, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Two-Face, Captain Marvel & Martian Manhunter Vinyl Figures

You may also notice some subtle differences between the final versions of these figures and the concept art that was leaked a few months ago. It looks like Funko is already incorporating many of these character’s new looks in the soon to be revamped/rebooted/relaunched DC Universe. For instance, there is now an extra red circle representing Mars in the middle of Martian Manhunter’s chest and Green Arrow had swapped out his old school Robin Hood hat/shirt for his new look Smallville inspired hood. I wonder whatever DCnU changes we will be seeing in Funko’s upcoming releases.

Each DC Universe Pop! Heroes Wave 3 vinyl figure stands 3.75” tall, has a rotating head and comes in a displayable window box. These 6 figures will retail for $9.99 each and are expected to ship sometime in August 2011.

Brightest Day Action Figures Series 2

Brightest Day, the bi-weekly DC Comics' follow up to Blackest Night, continues as the mystery behind the white light that resurrected twelve heroes and villains begins to unravel. Though the exact reasons for their rebirths remain a mystery, each is destined to play an intricate role in the future of the DC Universe. DC Direct’s Brightest Day Series 2 features three recently resurrected heroes, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman and Firestorm, and one previously resurrected hero, Mera.

Each Brightest Day action figure stands at 6.5-6.75" tall, features multiple points of articulation, includes a display base and comes packaged in a 4-color clamshell blister card. These resurrected heroes are scheduled to go on sale April 6, 2011.

New Brightest Day Action Figures by DC Direct

After the Blackest Night comes the Brightest Day! DC Comics unveiled on its official blog The Source that DC Direct will be in essence continuing its line of Blackest Night action figures with a spin-off, a Brightest Day toy line! If you loved the toys based on last year’s DC Universe spanning event Blackest Night, then you’re really going to love these new figures!

Brightest Day Action Figures Wave 1 & Wave 2 by DC Direct
Starting in March, DC Direct will kick off another series of high-quality and story-specific product, this time based around the hit biweekly series Brightest Day. Included in the toy line’s first two waves are Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Deadman, Aquaman, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm and Mera.

DC Direct blew me away with last years hugely successful Blackest Night toy line, and The Blot can’t wait to see these new figures. DCD really took their action figures to the next level with Blackest Night, and I’m hoping they continue that upward trend with the Brightest Day line. If I had to say anything negative about this announcement it’s that they didn’t include any of the resurrected villains (Captain Boomerang, Maxwell Lord or Osiris) in the line’s first two waves. All I know is there had better be a Wave 3 which includes Hawk, Dove, Jade and Digger!

Justice League of America presents Starro the Conqueror Set & SDCC 2010 Exclusive Starro Spores Bonus Pack

This special set from Mattel commemorates the 75th Anniversary of DC Comics. The Starro pack re-creates one of the most famous DC covers of all time, the cover of Brave and the Bold Issue #28, which just so happens to be the first appearance of the Justice League and Starro the Conqueror.

Justice League of America presents Starro the Conqueror Set featuring the Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, the Flash, Wonder Woman & Aquaman
The Justice League of America presents Starro the Conqueror Set includes all five JLA members featured on the cover (Martian Manhunter, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern & Aquaman) as highly articulated action figures in the same scale as the DC Universe Infinite Heroes toy line, and a giant, bendy Starro the Conqueror. What’s even cooler is the packaging for this set features lights and sounds with the voice of Kevin Conroy, TV's animated Batman, describing the characters and events seen on the cover. This set will go on sale after San Diego Comic-Con at MattyCollector.com for $50.

Justice League of America presents Starro the Conqueror Set in Packaging & the San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Starro Spores Bonus Pack
As an added bonus for those of you attending SDCC 2010, Mattel will be including a poly bag of four Starro Spores as a free gift with the purchase of the Justice League of America presents Starro the Conqueror Set (while supplies last). What’s weird about these Comic-Con exclusive Starro Spores is that they are compatible with Mattel’s line of 6" DC Universe Classics action figures and not the 3 3/4" DC Universe Infinite Heroes action figures included in the Starro Set. Anyone else think it is bizarre Mattel didn't make the Spores fit the figures they come with!?!

DC Universe Classics Starman Jack Knight Action Figure

It’s pretty rare for The Blot to get really excited over an action figure, but it happened last week when Mattel announced the characters included in DC Universe Classics Wave 15. Not only does Wave 15 include the Martian Manhunter, Jemm, OMAC and the Golden Pharaoh (from DC's Super Powers), but it also includes one of my all time favorite super heroes, Starman Jack Knight!

DC Universe Classics Series 15 - Classic Starman Ted Knight and Modern Starman Jack Knight Action Figures
James Robinson and Tony Harris’ DC comic book Starman ran for 81 issues in the 90’s and quickly became one of my all time favorite books. To me, it personifies what a great comic book should be, and I can’t recommend it enough to both comic book fans and those who’ve never read an issue. You can pre-order the Jack Knight action figure as a two figure Starman set from Entertainment Earth (Jack comes with his father, the Classic Starman Ted Knight) here for $33.99. The figures are scheduled to ship in August 2010.

DC Universe Classics Series 15 Action Figures - Martian Manhunter, Jemm, Sinestro Corps Batman, Golden Pharaoh, OMAC, Classic Starman Ted Knight, Moder Starman Jack Knight, Raven and Build-A-Figure Validus
The Classic Starman Ted Knight action figure, the traditional version of Starman, comes equipped with his Cosmic Rod and a Stellar Energy Pistol. The Modern Starman Jack Knight action figure, comes with his trusty Cosmic Rod and features contemporary translucent parts.

Collectors can expect DCUC Wave 15 action figures to begin showing up at retailers this summer. These figures will first appear at Kmart in late August/early September, then retailers everywhere in the fall.

Blammoids! Series 4 Mini PVC Figures by DC Direct

Earlier this week, DC Direct finally announced the release of its fourth (and probably last) wave of Blammoids! mini figures. Blammoids! Series 4 includes The Flash, Hawkman, the Martian Manhunter, Brainiac, Zoom and Etrigan the Demon.

Blammoids! Series 4 by DC Direct - The Flash & Zoom Mini Vinyl Figures
While The Blot had high hopes for this line of cute designer vinyl figures, from everything I’ve read it doesn’t appear that the Blammoids! toy line is selling all that well. For some reason, I think collectors have spurned the idea of these abstract chunky 3 inch figures of their favorite super heroes and villains. I got to see Series 1 a few weeks ago at my local comic book shop, and they honestly did look better in person. But with that being said, I still didn’t buy any.

DC Direct - Blackest Night Series 5 Teaser Image

Thanks to artest extroidinaire Ryan Hipp, The Blot gets to share with the world this awesome promotional photo featuring all of the characters in DC Direct’s popular new line of Blackest Night action figures, including three never before seen figures. I can only assume the Nekron, Black Lantern Deadman and Black Lantern Hawkman action figures seen below will be included in a currently unannounced Blackest Night Series 5. Sadly, the picture does not include a sneak peek of Series 4’s Black Lantern Wonder Woman figure, which corresponds directly to the events that took place in Blackest Night #5.

DC Direct - Blackest Night Series 5 Teaser Image
(click on the photo above for a more detailed look)

Personally, I think the Blackest Night figures are some of the best DC Comics figures every produced (by DC Direct or Mattel), especially the Black Lantern figures. Not only do we finally get some killer zombiefied versions of our favorite DC Comics heroes, but they are really detailed! Just look at Nekron’s chest, Black Lantern Firestorm’s head and Black Lantern Hawkman’s wings.

DC Direct’s Blackest Night Series 1 includes Alpha Lantern Boodikka, Black Lantern Earth-2 Superman, Blue Lantern Saint Walker and Red Lantern Atrocitus. Blackest Night Series 2 includes Black Lantern Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern John Stewart, Indigo and Sinestro Corps member Kryb. Blackest Night Series 3 includes Black Lantern Aquaman, Green Lantern Arisia, Orange Lantern Larfleeze with the slain and slavish Glomulus and Star Sapphire. Blackest Night Series 4 includes Black Lantern Wonder Woman, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, Black Lantern Firestorm and Black Hand with Bruce Wayne’s skull.

Justice League International Series 2 Action Figures

Justice League International #24 Cover ArtworkReaders of The Blot Says… may remember that the late 80’s/early 90’s run of Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire on Justice League International is one of The Blot’s holy grails of comics. I hold it in the same high regard as the 80’s run of Marv Wolfman and George Perez on both The New Teen Titans and Crisis on Infinite Earths. And so it made me really happy this week to find out DC Direct was continuing its line of Justice League International action figures based on the artwork of Kevin Maguire.

DC Direct - Justice League International Series 2 Action Figures
There was no doubt in my mind that a second wave of figures would be coming because while Series 1 was great, it didn’t include any of the super heroes who really represented what it meant to be a member of the JLI. Yes Batman, Ice and G’Nort were important characters to many key JLI stories, but the humorous legacy of Justice League International was created by its core members: the Martian Manhunter, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle and Fire.

DC Direct Justice League International Series 2 - Martian Manhunter Action Figure
One of the highlights of the JLI era was Giffen and DeMatteis’ unique and absurd take on the classic JLA super hero J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter. His new found obsession with Oreos was hilarious and even though they took his personality in a bizarre direction, there is no doubt in my mind that the Martian Manhunter is and always will be the heart and soul of the Justice League. In my opinion his exclusion from the current Justice League series is a key reason the book has been so disappointing to fans; from the very start of the book’s re-launch, the team has been written without direction and focus. Something J’onn often brought to the Justice League of America.

DC Direct Justice League International Series 2 - Booster Gold Action Figure
DC Direct Justice League International Series 2 - Blue Beetle Action Figure
And while I am a little disappointed DC Direct chose to go with Fire and Ice’s original costumes (from their Ice Maiden and Green Flame Global Guardian days), I am pumped to finally be able to own a Justice League team consisting of Blue & Gold and Fire & Ice. These four characters are some of my favorite heroes of all time and I love that they are finally getting their due respect from the higher ups at DC Comics. Now that Tora (Ice) has been brought back to life, we only need to convince the idiots at DC to bring back poor dead Ted Kord (Blue Beetle).

DC Direct Justice League International Series 2 - Fire Action Figure
Each Justice League International Series 2 action figure stands between 6.75”-7” tall, features multiple points of articulation, a base to stand on and comes in a 4 color clamshell blister card packaging. You can expect to see the line of Justice League International Series 2 action figures in stores on August 26, 2009.
