At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, DC Comics will be taking us back to its iconic 2011 “Flashpoint” crossover that reshaped the DC Comics universe forever. The Blot can’t believe it’s only been a year since the launch of the Classic Thundercats Minimates toy line! NYCC 2011 Exclusive Spider-Man NY Firefighter Minimates Set

New York Comic-Con 2011 is right around the corner, and Action Figure Xpress and Diamond Select Toys have some really exciting exclusives coming out! First up is the NYCC 2011 Exclusive Spider-Man NY Firefighter Minimates Set. As one of New York City's resident superheroes, Spider-Man sees a lot of fires, and puts his strength, agility and Spider-Sense to good use rescuing anyone who might be trapped inside the burning building. But the real heroes are the men and women who do the same thing every day, without the benefit of a radioactive spider-bite. They may not be able to scale walls without a ladder, or break down a door without an axe, but the firefighters of NYC have truly earned the name "New York's Bravest."

SDCC 2011 Exclusive CoolRain x MINDstyle NBA Playoffs Mini Figure Box Set

The Blot hasn’t covered these new blind boxed NBA mini figures by CoolRain because I wasn’t quite sure what to make of them. Produced by MINDstyle, these NBA figures look like Michael Lau rip-offs without the creativity. What’s worse is most of them don’t even resemble the real life players they are based on and at least one of them has already changed teams! Although I can’t lie, picking up one of the Kobe Bryant figures has definitely crossed my mind a few times. But that’s got more to do with my blind Lakers devotion than my fondness for the toy.

To me, this San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive NBA Playoffs Box Set is a total cash grab. It is being marketed as a way to commemorate the dramatic 2011 NBA playoffs with a set that includes 5 of today's hottest superstars (Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Kevin Garnett and Amare Stoudemire). Except if they really wanted to commemorate the 2011 NBA Playoffs you’d think they would have included Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki, who was also in Series 1.

But what really annoys me about this set is that four of the five figures are just commons from MINDstyle’s NBA Mini Figure Series 1. The only new/rare figure is the “EXCLUSIVE” NBA MVP Derrick Rose in his home white Bulls jersey. That’s it…so for $100 you’re paying for the white jersey Derrick Rose and the Comic-Con exclusive box set packaging. As you all know The Blot’s all about SDCC exclusives, but at least make it worth collectors’ money and time. Or just say the White Bulls Jersey Derrick Rose is limited to 300 pieces and retails for $100. That’s really what collectors are paying for right?

And the SDCC Exclusive Minimate box sets just keep on coming! Diamond Select Toys and Action Figure Xpress have teamed up again this year for an exciting San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Minimates exclusive. This “Stormbreaker” set includes Thor, Beta Ray Bill, Loki and Sif, and commemorates the classic storyline in which alien Beta Ray Bill crossed paths with the God of Thunder, hefted the enchanted hammer Mjolnir and was granted the power of Thor himself. With everyone in the Marvel Universe picking up hammers nowadays, Action Figure Xpress thought it would be the perfect time to revisit this important story.

NYCC 2010 Exclusive Age of Apocalypse X-Men Minimates Set 1

The Blot’s got no idea how I missed this, but Action Figure Xpress (“AFX”) didn’t just have one New York Comic-Con Exclusive Age of Apocalypse box set, they had two! This NYCC exclusive box set includes “Age of Apocalypse” versions of X-Men members Cyclops, Magneto, Rogue, and Sunfire.

The New York Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Age of Apocalypse Minimates Box Set by AFX will retail for $17.00 each. If you’re unable to attend NYCC ’10 have no fear, these should be showing up on online retailers’ websites sometime soon!

NYCC 2010 Exclusive New Mutants Minimates Boxed Set

Action Figure Xpress (“AFX”) will be releasing a New York Comic-Con 2010 exclusive New Mutants boxed set based on the characters’ original look in the 1980s comic books. This NYCC exclusive box set includes New Mutants Cannonball, Susnpot, Wolfsbane and Karma.



As an added bonus, the set comes with two alternate heads of Wolfsbane and Sunspot. This way you can swap their heads out with Karma and Cannonball’s so you can have de-powered versions of Rahne and Roberto in their classic yellow and black uniforms. I don’t think I can accurately put into words how excited The Blot is for this release. The New Mutants was one of my favorite books as a kid, and for some reason action figures based on these characters’ original looks have never really been produced.

Action Figure Xpress (“AFX”) will be releasing an awesome Minimates boxed set based on the classic ‘90s X-Men crossover “Age of Apocalypse” as a New York Comic-Con 2010 exclusive! This NYCC exclusive box set includes “Age of Apocalypse” versions of X-Men members Wolverine, Jean Grey and Beast, and the villainous Apocalypse. AOA was one of The Blot’s favorite Marvel storylines back in the day, and these Age of Apocalypse figures bring back some great memories of the ‘90s era comic book boom.
