Toby’s Secret Society Mini Series by Gary Baseman

Later today Kidrobot will be releasing one of its most exciting blind box mini figures series in a very long time, Toby’s Secret Society by Gary Baseman. While The Blot has never been a diehard Baseman fan, I know a lot of collectors who swear by his work. With that being said, this series is pretty awesome, both for its uniqueness and its ability to accurate translate Gary’s 2D work into amazingly accurate 3D mini figures.

Kidrobot - Toby’s Secret Society Mini Series by Gary Baseman

The mythologies behind any secret society are complex and powerful. From the Masons to the Illuminati, mystery, intrigue, and deep spiritual roots can be traced back through their histories in both subtle and dangerous ways. Toby, the protector of dreams, memories, and darkest secrets, commands a sect of 11 spirits and brethren - the Disciple, the Princess of Secrets, the Goddess of Dreams, the Knight of Good Fortune, and the Seven Sacred Magi: Compassion, Destiny, Freedom, Lust, Love, Trust, and Truth – a select group of 3-inch figures chosen to represent the impulses of man.

Kidrobot - Toby’s Secret Society Mini Series by Gary Baseman

2,500 cases include the full artist collection – buy one of these and your fraternal order will be complete. But what The Blot wants to know is, is 2,500 cases a lot or a little? The secret society comes to light today, October 20th, at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers. Each blind box of Toby’s Secret Society will retail for $9.95.

Nerdy Fresh Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

Nerdy Fresh Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

Nerdy Fresh, one of The Blot’s favorite indie clothing brands, dropped its Fall/Winter 2011 Collection yesterday and absolutely killed it! Their Fall/Winter ’11 Collection includes a huge variety of t-shirts, snapbacks, crewneck sweatshirts, varsity jackets and even sleeveless hoodies! There’s definitely a little bit of everything, and something for everyone. If The Blot could pull it off, I would totally be ordering one of Nerdy Fresh’s new sleeveless hoodies (but sadly I can’t).

Nerdy Fresh Fall/Winter 2011 Collection

It’s hard picking my favorite design from the new series, but right now it’s a tie between Chief Astro and the Gang of outsiders graphic. Although the dopiest part of the collection is definitely the Nerdy Fresh varsity jackets. I really love everything about them, from the colors and stitching to the graphics and stripes. Head over to Nerdy Fresh online store now to check out all the new limited edition designs, colors and styles, and pick up a few tees, hats and jackets while supplies last!

The Jellatic Empire: Star Wars Inspired Stormtrooper Jelly Bots

New York Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Star Wars Inspired The Jellatic Empire: Stormtrooper Jelly Bots by The Jelly Empire

One of The Blot’s favorite surprises coming out of New York Comic-Con 2011 is this release from The Jelly Empire! A collaborative effort between The Jelly Empire, Argonaut Resins and Soundwave810, The Jellatic Empire is Star Wars inspired wave of Stormtrooper looking Jelly Bots. How awesome is that??? They even made sure to include the Stormtrooper’s clunky looking built in belt!

New York Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Star Wars Inspired The Jellatic Empire: Stormtrooper Jelly Bots Print by The Jelly Empire

The 12”x18” print seen above and these awesome The Jellatic Empire resin figures were originally sold at Big Kev’s Geekstuff NYCC Booth #E7 last weekend. No word yet if any of these are still available, but if so they will eventually show up at The Jelly Empire’s online store. May the force be with you!

V for Vendetta Pop! Vinyl Figure Concept Artwork

V for Vendetta Pop! Vinyl Figure Teaser Image by Funko

Do you love fighting for freedom against a dictatorial society? Well then you’re really going to love this V for Vendetta Pop! vinyl figure from Funko! The Blot knows nothing about this figure except for its release date, December 16th, but doesn’t it look cool! For now let’s just enjoy the concept art for Funko’s V for Vendetta Pop! vinyl figure until we find out more information. I wonder if this figure will be part of Funko’s Pop! Movies toy line or Pop! Heroes toy line since V for Vendetta is a DC Comics graphic novel? Only time will tell!

Halo Pop! Series 1 Vinyl Figures by Funko

Halo Pop! Series 1 by Funko - Master Chief & Grunt Vinyl Figures

Funko’s Pop! toy line has now official expanded into video games with the release of its new Halo Universe vinyl figures. The classic story of human supersoldier vs. theocratic military alien species can now be reenacted with these figures based on the hit video game Halo. Wave 1 includes Master Chief and Grunt as 3.75” stylized vinyl figures. This might just be the one corner of the pop culture landscape The Blot knows nothing about. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never played Halo and really only know Master Chief by his now iconic green helmet. But aren’t all the Halo characters basically Stormtroopers, all wearing the same armor in different colors? Or am I missing something?

Each Pop! Halo Universe Series 1 vinyl figure stands 3.75” tall, has a rotating head and comes in a displayable window box. These figures are expected to become available on December 1st, 2011 and will retail for around $9.99 each.

I really love all the crazy details OsiRisORion and NeMo put into this figure, it's almost like a different figure every time you rotate a SJD.

NYCC '11 - The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs

The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs - Captain America vs Red Skull & Iron Man vs Iron Monger

When Hasbro announced they would be continuing their Marvel Comics Mini Mighty Muggs toy line The Blot thought it was kind of a joke. 1-2 releases at SDCC and NYCC isn’t really continuing a line when a majority of Mighty Muggs fans can’t get their hands on the figures. So you can imagine my surprise when Hasbro announced at New York Comic-Con 2011 that a new line of Avengers Mini Muggs 2 packs would be seeing a wide release next in conjunction with next summer’s The Avengers live action movie. This is pretty awesome news even if the four heroes are just repaints from last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con 2011 exclusive Avengers box set.

The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs 2 Packs - Thor vs Loki & Hulk vs Abomination

Hasbro will be producing four The Avengers Mini Mighty Muggs Sets, with each 2 pack featuring one super hero and one villain. They are Captain America vs Red Skull, Iron Man vs Iron Monger, Thor vs Loki, and Hulk vs the Abomination. I love the idea of each set including an Avenger and their archenemy, I just wish there was a bigger difference between this release and the SDCC box set. The Captain America and Hulk Mini Muggs are almost identical to the previous release. I’ve seen no word yet on when these figures will be hit store shelves, but as soon as I hear something I’ll be sure to post that information here!
