Crazy Color Edition Pop! Vinyl Figure Prototypes by Funko

Crazy Color Edition Pop! Vinyl Figure Prototypes by Funko - The Joker, The Penguin, Batman, Franken Berry, Boo Berry & Count Chocula

For the past two weeks, Funko has been holding a super cool giveaway of these awesome “Crazy Color” Pop! vinyl figures on the Funko Funatic forums. Funko’s Brian Mariotti picked six of his favorite Pop! vinyl figures (Batman, The Joker, The Penguin, Franken Berry, Count Chocula and Boo Berry) and created 12 unpainted protos of each one in wacky, crazy colors. Each figure comes signed and numbered by Brian, and the only way to win one is through the giveaway contest at FunkoFunatic.com. The giveaway was thought to be over, but rumor has it there will be one more day of giveaways sometime soon. So if you’re interested in winning one of these rare, blind bagged toys head over to Funko’s official forums to find out more!

Crazy Color Edition Batman Pop! Vinyl Figure Prototype by Funko

The Blot was lucky enough to actually win one of these fun figures on the first day of the giveaway. I was super pumped to open my package last week to discover I had won the Crazy Color Batman Pop! proto you see above! I was secretly hoping for a Batman, and am pretty excited to have it as the centerpiece of my DC Universe Pop! Heroes collection. Thanks so much to Brian and the entire Funko family for holding this contest and my prize!

Green Lantern Got Milk? Ad

Green Lantern Got Milk Ad featuring Ryan Reynolds
Click the image above for a more detailed look
The Blot is waaaaay behind on posting this Green Lantern Got Milk? ad featuring Ryan Reynolds, but it’s still technically the 2011 summer movie season so I think it’s ok. I love these super hero movie Got Milk? ads, and am glad the Milk Mustache Campaign keeps releasing them. I actually had a Phantom Got Milk? ad hanging in my room when that horrible live action The Phantom movie came out in 1996! Since then there have been a ton of Got Milk? super hero movie ads, including a Wolverine ad in 2008 for X-Men Origins: Wolverine and a Batman ad in 2009 for The Dark Knight. Now that I'm thinking about it, did I miss 2010’s Got Milk? ad? I’m assuming there’s an Iron Man 2 Got Milk? ad out there somewhere, but I must have missed it.

Green Lantern is in theaters now at select theaters worldwide.

General Mills Pop! Ad Icons Vinyl Figures: Count Chocula, Franken Berry & Boo Berry

General Mills Pop! Ad Icons Vinyl Figures by Funko - Count Chocula, Franken Berry & Boo Berry

Funko announced its newest line of Pop! vinyl figures last week, Pop! Ad Icons, and its first wave includes three of General Mills’ most iconic characters: Count Chocula, Franken Berry and Boo Berry. If you’re in your 20s and 30s then just the mention of these animated spokesmen should transport you back to a simpler time of Saturday morning cartoons and incredibly sugary cereal! While my mom would never let me eat Count Chocula, Franken Berry or Boo Berry cereal, I loved watching these animated advertisements anytime they came on the screen. I can’t wait to see what other General Mills characters Funko has in the works. Might we see the Trix Rabbit, Yummy Mummy or the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee!?!

Each General Mills Pop! Ad Icons vinyl figure stands 3.75” tall, has a rotating head and comes in a displayable window box. While these 3 figures are not expected to ship until September 2011, you can already pre-order them from Entertainment Earth here for $9.99 each.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Got Milk? Ad

X Marks The Spot

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Wolverine Got Milk? Body by Milk Ad
The Blot’s been wanting to blog about Hugh Jackman’s Body by Milk Wolverine ad ever since it started showing up in comic books and magazines a few weeks ago. As a Got Milk? advertisement it turned out really nicely, but I still hate how fake Wolverine’s claws look. I think the problem is that he’s never wearing gloves, so you always see the claws popping out of Jackman’s bare hands and the film’s special effects just aren’t good enough to pull that off. Maybe if they added a little fake blood every time his claws go “snikt” it would look more realistic. I guess that’s the downfall to a movie featuring a costume-less Wolverine.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is in theaters now, but probably not for that much longer.

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards' Music Makes Us Ad Campaign

Did you know the Grammy Awards were this Sunday? The Blot would bet any amount of money that most of you didn’t, and do you know why? Because no one cares! The days when families gathered around their television sets to see who won such and such award are dead and gone. When was the last time one of these awards shows even drew huge ratings? The truth is while I love the Emmys and the Oscars, the Grammys lost me a long, long time ago.

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards - Celebrate the Music that Makes Us Advertising Campaign Poster
Part of the problem is I don’t understand the award categories. While the Emmys and Oscars have Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress, the Grammys have awards for Best Song, Best Album and Best Record. Aren’t those all the same thing? Plus, the past few years the Album of the Year award has gone to albums no one has even heard of and acts well past their prime.

So why am I even talking about the Grammys this year? Because its new advertising campaign entitled “Music Makes Us” is ridiculous awesome! While the Music Makes Us ad campaign has been running on television, in print, online and on the radio for weeks, it’s the print ads that really have The Blot excited (click here or here to find out more).

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards - Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Music Makes Us Poster
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards - Coldplay Music Makes Us PosterIt features current and former nominees with their likenesses made up of lyrics from songs that influenced and inspired them as artists. While some collages reference little known artists, others like Lil Wayne and Rihanna’s “pays tribute to Jay-Z’s ‘Can’t Knock the Hustle’ and” Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name” respectively. (link) As you can see from the photos in this post, the Grammys’ new ad campaign features some seriously heavy hitters from the music industry including Coldplay, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Lenny Kravitz, Kanye West and Stevie Wonder.

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards - Rihanna Music Makes Us Poster
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards - Stevie Wonder Music Makes Us PosterEvidently the Celebrate The Music Makes Us ad campaign was created in direct response to “the Grammys suffering their lowest ratings since 1992,” but for whatever the reason I think this is a bold move in the right direction for the world’s preeminent music awards show. (link) Just think, if the ad campaign is this revolutionary what might they have in store for the actual ceremony? It might just be just enough to get me to actually tune in this year.

Amanda Beard Bares All For PETA - Full Anti-Fur Advertisement

After receiving a few e-mails asking for more Olympic coverage on The Blot Says… and even more e-mails commenting on Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard’s new ad campaign for PETA, I thought I’d try to make everyone happy by posting the full Amanda Beard anti-fur Olympic PETA poster since there’s really not much going on over in Beijing yet (except for the U.S. Men’s Soccer team beating Japan 1-0 in their first game a day after the U.S. Women’s Soccer team was shut out in a loss in their opening game to Norway).

U.S. Olympian Amanda Beard's PETA Ad - Be Comfortable In Your Own Skin. Don't Wear Fur.
Stay tuned for more coverage of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics coming soon on The Blot Says...

The Games of the XXIX Olympiad

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics LogoThe 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games are finally here! The Blot’s been anxiously awaiting the 2008 Opening Ceremony and the official start of the XXIX Olympiad. What can I say, I’m an Olympics junkie. Every two years I plant myself in front of the television for two weeks straight and get wrapped up in the greatness that is World competition.

NBC 2008 Beijing Olympics LogoWhile I don’t always love the way NBC dramatizes every single athlete and Olympic sport, they at least make it interesting and highlight the amazing stories that encompass the Olympic Games. Take for instance this compelling story about Lopez Lomong, a former Lost Boy of Sudan who yesterday was chosen to carry the flag for the U.S. in the Opening Ceremonies on Friday. If something like that doesn’t blow you away then I don’t know what will.

Over the next two weeks legends will be made and interesting stories told, but to The Blot these are the 5 questions I can’t wait to have answered:

1. Can “The Redeem Team,” the nickname given to the 2008 U.S. Men’s Basketball Team, regain the dominant form of the original 1992 “Dream Team,” or will this team under whelm like the U.S. basketball squad has over the past 8 years?

The 2008 USA Men's Basketball Olympic Team
2. Can Michael Phelps achieve his goal of winning eight gold medals in a single Olympics and break the record held by swimming legend Mark Spitz for the past 36 years? Oh yeah, and will Phelps shave that ridiculous goatee he's recently grown?

U.S. Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps
3. After all this talk of China’s pollution, will we notice any significant effect from it on the Olympic athletes?

A Photo from 08-07-08 of the China's Olympic Bird's Nest - Just One Day Before the Start of the XXIX Olympiad
I’m guessing the answer to this one will be a resounding yes and that very few World Records will be broken (especially in outdoor events) over the course of this year’s Olympics.

4. With Paul Hamm, the reigning gold medalist in the Individual All-Around Men’s Gymnastic event and the only American to ever win gold in that event, out of this year’s Olympics due to injury, will another male gymnast step up to the plate and bring gymnastic gold back to the good old U.S. of A?

U.S. Olympic Gymnast Morgan Hamm Announcing His Withdrawal From The Beijing Olympic Games
I have no idea the answer to this one, but now that Hamm’s twin brother Morgan is also out of the Olympics due to a nagging ankle injury, the Men's Gymnastics team is going into the team competition severely weakened and our medal chances have now been reduced significantly. (link)

5. And last but definitely not least, what will the reaction be to four-time Olympian Amanda Beard’s new anti-fur ad for PETA where she posed nude in front of an American flag?

U.S. Olympian Amanda Beard's PETA Ad - Be Comfortable In Your Own Skin. Don't Wear Fur.
Beard has chosen to bare her skin to help save animals’ skins. To find out more about Amanda’s feelings on fur and China’s role in the fur industry click here (and here).

Obviously there are tons of additional questions that could have been asked, but I’ll defer those to NBC’s Olympic coverage. For those of you interested, there were two questions that almost made the top 5: 1. Will 41-year-old swimmer Dara Torres medal in these Olympic Games (and is she really not doping)? and 2. How many current and former Texas Longhorns will medal over the next two weeks (Hook 'em Horns!)?

Hellboy on Inside The Actors Studio - Hellboy II Promo Ad

This viral web advertisement for Hellboy II: The Golden Army is hilarious. The Blot’s a big fan of James Lipton and Inside The Actors Studio, so to see Hellboy on that infamous stage with Lipton firing questions at him is really awesome. It’s a brief clip but definitely worth watching. From all of the reviews out so far it seems like Hellboy II is going to be sick and is very deserving of all of the hype that it’s received so far. So be prepared for some long lines if you plan on seeing in theaters when it opens next weekend on July 11th.

2008 NBA Finals Game 1 - LA Lakers vs. Boston Celtics Tonight

The Blot can’t wait for the NBA Finals to finally begin. It’s been way too long since both Conference Finals ended and I don’t think the Association could possibly hype up this series anymore than it already has. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are the league’s two most prestigious franchises and this is definitely the matchup David Stern and the league was desperately hoping for. Kobe, Gasol and Odom vs. Garnett, Pierce and Allen is a series for the ages…or at least for the past few years.

The 2008 NBA Finals - Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics - There Can Only Be One - Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett
The game starts in just over an hour and I can’t focus on much else. Because of that and still trying to catch up from being out of town for a week, The Blot is having to postpone my Lost season finale recap until tomorrow. Sorry everyone! But, if you want to help out by cheering on my LA Lakers, you can tune into ABC at 9/8 central for Game 1of the 2008 NBA Finals.

Others Reload. Batman Refuels.

The Dark Knight and Got Milk? are teaming up to promote Body By Milk’s newest ad campaign and is doing so with a very special contest. Have you ever wanted to become Batman’s new sidekick in a DC comic book? Then head to the Batman Refuels Sweepstakes and enter today!

Body By Milk - The Dark Knight and Got Milk Ad Campaign - Batman Milk Mustache Advertisement
In conjunction with Mattel and DC Comics, The Dark Knight and Body By Milk are offering one lucky winner the chance to be in a Batman comic. Yes, you read that right. If you head here you can enter “for the chance to have yourself drawn in an upcoming Batman comic book. The winner will not only take on Gotham City with the famed superhero, but will also receive the framed, signed original artwork and 50 copies of the comic. And fifteen additional fans will win a special Batman prize from Mattel.” (link)

I know this has been done before, but whenever I read about these types of contests I get a little excited about the prospect of The Blot and The Bat teaming up to protect the mean streets of Gotham City.

The Batman Strikes! Comic Book CoverThe new Batman Milk Mustache advertisement is a great addition to the long line of super hero milk mustache ads. Where else can you learn that “research suggests that milk’s unique mix of ingredients can help you recover after exercise. And its protein can help build muscle. So train hard and drink low fat or fat free milk, because the Batmobile isn’t the only thing that needs to refuel.” (link)

Supreme x Kermit x Kubrick

Kermit x Supreme
Last month Nylon Magazine unveiled that Colette would be hosting the photography exhibition Terry Richardson + Supreme + Kermit, which would debut the latest advertising campaign shot by noted photographer Terry Richardson for the legendary skate store and clothing brand Supreme. (link) As you can tell, the campaign focuses on one of Jim Henson’s most famous creations and the Muppet of all Muppets, Kermit the Frog.

Terry Richardson + Supreme + Kermit
In honor of Kermit’s new position as spokesfrog for Supreme, designer toy manufacturer Medicom is releasing a limited edition Supreme Kermit Kubrick figure. The Kermit the Frog Supreme Kubrick figure is 60 mm tall and will be released early April, 2008. (link)

While according to Supreme’s website it looks like their Kermit Skate Decks and Kermit Tees are all sold out, you might want to stop by one of their 6 worldwide locations to see if there are any hidden away somewhere.

For those of you in NYC, NikeSkateboarding.org is reporting that “posters of Kermit sporting a classic Supreme box t-shirt have appeared in New York’s Soho,” so if you can’t get your hands on a t-shirt or skate deck then maybe you can snag a used promo Supreme Kermit poster. (link)

Converse’s New Connectivity Advertising Campaign

Converse announced this week that it “will commemorate its centennial year as one of the world’s most coveted, iconic brands with the global launch of a new advertising campaign entitled Connectivity.” (link) The first image from this new Connectivity campaign also hit the web this week and I must say it’s a great start to this new marketing campaign. The idea behind Converse’s Connectivity ad campaign is to celebrate “100 years of disrupting the status quo and features legendary icons from the worlds of music, art, sports and fashion.” (link) The Blot does love the Chuck Taylor All Star look and this first Connectivity picture makes me love it even more. It’s just unfortunate how hard it is for me to find the classic canvas sneakers in my size.

Converse Connectivity - Hunter S. Thompson, Dwyane Wade, Sid Vicious, M.I.A., James Dean, Karen O, Common, Joan Jett and Billie Joe Armstrong
Wow, two sneaker posts in one week. But, I couldn't resist because I think the Connectivity campaign sounds a like pretty sweet idea. I’m actually excited to see what Converse and its parent company Nike have in store for us this year as they celebrate Converse’s 100th anniversary. Those Nike marketing guys never cease to amaze me with their creativity and vision.

According to the Business Wire article the global advertising campaign will feature:

the ultimate 20th Century rebel, James Dean; gonzo journalist, Hunter S. Thompson; and Sex Pistols bassist and original punk idol, Sid Vicious. These cultural heroes from the past are shown ‘connecting’ with today’s influencers including female rocker, Joan Jett; eclectic urban music star, M.I.A; Green Day’s infamous Grammy award winning front man, Billie Joe Armstrong; Grammy award winning hip hop star and actor, Common; basketball player and Converse athlete Dwyane Wade; and lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Karen O. Additional regional icons include Ian Curtis (UK), Jefferson Hack (UK), Carlos Diez Diez (Spain), Jane Birkin (France), Nina Hagen (Germany), Kim, Jung Man (Korea), Cui Jian (China), Darren Cordeux (Australia), Jose Fernando Emilio (Mexico) and Sandro (Argentina). For a closer look at the above picture here it is again split into thirds and zoomed in:
