X-Men Origins: Wolverine Got Milk? Ad

The Blot’s been wanting to blog about Hugh Jackman’s Body by Milk Wolverine ad ever since it started showing up in comic books and magazines a few weeks ago. As a Got Milk? advertisement it turned out really nicely, but I still hate how fake Wolverine’s claws look. I think the problem is that he’s never wearing gloves, so you always see the claws popping out of Jackman’s bare hands and the film’s special effects just aren’t good enough to pull that off. Maybe if they added a little fake blood every time his claws go “snikt” it would look more realistic. I guess that’s the downfall to a movie featuring a costume-less Wolverine.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is in theaters now, but probably not for that much longer.

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards' Music Makes Us Ad Campaign

Part of the problem is I don’t understand the award categories. While the Emmys and Oscars have Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress, the Grammys have awards for Best Song, Best Album and Best Record. Aren’t those all the same thing? Plus, the past few years the Album of the Year award has gone to albums no one has even heard of and acts well past their prime.
So why am I even talking about the Grammys this year? Because its new advertising campaign entitled “Music Makes Us” is ridiculous awesome! While the Music Makes Us ad campaign has been running on television, in print, online and on the radio for weeks, it’s the print ads that really have The Blot excited (click here or here to find out more).

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards air this Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 8/7c on CBS.

The Games of the XXIX Olympiad

Over the next two weeks legends will be made and interesting stories told, but to The Blot these are the 5 questions I can’t wait to have answered:
1. Can “The Redeem Team,” the nickname given to the 2008 U.S. Men’s Basketball Team, regain the dominant form of the original 1992 “Dream Team,” or will this team under whelm like the U.S. basketball squad has over the past 8 years?
2. Can Michael Phelps achieve his goal of winning eight gold medals in a single Olympics and break the record held by swimming legend Mark Spitz for the past 36 years? Oh yeah, and will Phelps shave that ridiculous goatee he's recently grown?
3. After all this talk of China’s pollution, will we notice any significant effect from it on the Olympic athletes?
I’m guessing the answer to this one will be a resounding yes and that very few World Records will be broken (especially in outdoor events) over the course of this year’s Olympics.
4. With Paul Hamm, the reigning gold medalist in the Individual All-Around Men’s Gymnastic event and the only American to ever win gold in that event, out of this year’s Olympics due to injury, will another male gymnast step up to the plate and bring gymnastic gold back to the good old U.S. of A?
I have no idea the answer to this one, but now that Hamm’s twin brother Morgan is also out of the Olympics due to a nagging ankle injury, the Men's Gymnastics team is going into the team competition severely weakened and our medal chances have now been reduced significantly. (link)
5. And last but definitely not least, what will the reaction be to four-time Olympian Amanda Beard’s new anti-fur ad for PETA where she posed nude in front of an American flag?
Beard has chosen to bare her skin to help save animals’ skins. To find out more about Amanda’s feelings on fur and China’s role in the fur industry click here (and here).
Obviously there are tons of additional questions that could have been asked, but I’ll defer those to NBC’s Olympic coverage. For those of you interested, there were two questions that almost made the top 5: 1. Will 41-year-old swimmer Dara Torres medal in these Olympic Games (and is she really not doping)? and 2. How many current and former Texas Longhorns will medal over the next two weeks (Hook 'em Horns!)?

2008 NBA Finals Game 1 - LA Lakers vs. Boston Celtics Tonight

The game starts in just over an hour and I can’t focus on much else. Because of that and still trying to catch up from being out of town for a week, The Blot is having to postpone my Lost season finale recap until tomorrow. Sorry everyone! But, if you want to help out by cheering on my LA Lakers, you can tune into ABC at 9/8 central for Game 1of the 2008 NBA Finals.

Batman Drinks Milk
Others Reload. Batman Refuels.
The Dark Knight and Got Milk? are teaming up to promote Body By Milk’s newest ad campaign and is doing so with a very special contest. Have you ever wanted to become Batman’s new sidekick in a DC comic book? Then head to the Batman Refuels Sweepstakes and enter today!
In conjunction with Mattel and DC Comics, The Dark Knight and Body By Milk are offering one lucky winner the chance to be in a Batman comic. Yes, you read that right. If you head here you can enter “for the chance to have yourself drawn in an upcoming Batman comic book. The winner will not only take on Gotham City with the famed superhero, but will also receive the framed, signed original artwork and 50 copies of the comic. And fifteen additional fans will win a special Batman prize from Mattel.” (link)
I know this has been done before, but whenever I read about these types of contests I get a little excited about the prospect of The Blot and The Bat teaming up to protect the mean streets of Gotham City. The new Batman Milk Mustache advertisement is a great addition to the long line of super hero milk mustache ads. Where else can you learn that “research suggests that milk’s unique mix of ingredients can help you recover after exercise. And its protein can help build muscle. So train hard and drink low fat or fat free milk, because the Batmobile isn’t the only thing that needs to refuel.” (link)

Supreme x Kermit x Kubrick

Last month Nylon Magazine unveiled that Colette would be hosting the photography exhibition Terry Richardson + Supreme + Kermit, which would debut the latest advertising campaign shot by noted photographer Terry Richardson for the legendary skate store and clothing brand Supreme. (link) As you can tell, the campaign focuses on one of Jim Henson’s most famous creations and the Muppet of all Muppets, Kermit the Frog.

In honor of Kermit’s new position as spokesfrog for Supreme, designer toy manufacturer Medicom is releasing a limited edition Supreme Kermit Kubrick figure. The Kermit the Frog Supreme Kubrick figure is 60 mm tall and will be released early April, 2008. (link)

While according to Supreme’s website it looks like their Kermit Skate Decks and Kermit Tees are all sold out, you might want to stop by one of their 6 worldwide locations to see if there are any hidden away somewhere.

For those of you in NYC, NikeSkateboarding.org is reporting that “posters of Kermit sporting a classic Supreme box t-shirt have appeared in New York’s Soho,” so if you can’t get your hands on a t-shirt or skate deck then maybe you can snag a used promo Supreme Kermit poster. (link)

Converse’s New Connectivity Advertising Campaign

Wow, two sneaker posts in one week. But, I couldn't resist because I think the Connectivity campaign sounds a like pretty sweet idea. I’m actually excited to see what Converse and its parent company Nike have in store for us this year as they celebrate Converse’s 100th anniversary. Those Nike marketing guys never cease to amaze me with their creativity and vision.
According to the Business Wire article the global advertising campaign will feature:
the ultimate 20th Century rebel, James Dean; gonzo journalist, Hunter S. Thompson; and Sex Pistols bassist and original punk idol, Sid Vicious. These cultural heroes from the past are shown ‘connecting’ with today’s influencers including female rocker, Joan Jett; eclectic urban music star, M.I.A; Green Day’s infamous Grammy award winning front man, Billie Joe Armstrong; Grammy award winning hip hop star and actor, Common; basketball player and Converse athlete Dwyane Wade; and lead singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Karen O. Additional regional icons include Ian Curtis (UK), Jefferson Hack (UK), Carlos Diez Diez (Spain), Jane Birkin (France), Nina Hagen (Germany), Kim, Jung Man (Korea), Cui Jian (China), Darren Cordeux (Australia), Jose Fernando Emilio (Mexico) and Sandro (Argentina).
