X-Men ’97 Sunspot Animated Mini Bust by Diamond Select Toys x Marvel Comics

Growing up, The Blot was a huge fan of the New Mutants, especially Cannonball and Sunspot.  While Sunspot never became a major X-Men character, he was always a part of the larger X-Men / New Mutants universe.  So I was really pumped to learn that Roberto Da Costa would become a main character on the new Disney+ animated series, X-Men ’97, a spin off of the iconic 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series. Not only that, but with Bobby’s appearance in the streaming series he's now also getting a statue in Diamond Select Toys’ awesome line of X-Men: The Animated Series Mini Busts!

Marvel Legends X-Men 2022 Series Action Figures Review courtesy of Entertainment Earth!

The Blot was so excited to add these new Marvel Legends X-Men 2022 Series action figures to my collection thanks to my friends at Entertainment Earth! First off, can you ever have enough Havok Marvel Legends figures!?!  This is my third one and first in his classic first appearance costume.  The first two were his ’90 X-Force blue and yellow uniform and his more recent Uncanny Avengers costume (an update on his classic look). I especially like that Hasbro gave Havok new power special effects from the previous two releases.  These are translucent blue hard plastic special effects, and there’s even a giant one that fits into his back.

Siryn was also a must get from this series as she’s definitely needed for my ‘90s New Mutants / X-Force collection. I love how they created her wings / cape with real fabric to allow for better movement and poseability. And then there’s Maggott, who is… well… Maggott! He’s by far the best and worst mutant ever!!! SDCC 15 Exclusive Doctor Strange “Book of the Vishanti” Marvel Legends Action Figure Box Set by Hasbro

While we’re still over a year away from Marvel’s upcoming live action Doctor Strange film, Hasbro has decided to release an awesome new Doctor Strange themed Marvel Legends action figure box set exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con 2015!!! Thanks to USAToday, we now know this magical set will include 6” action figures of Doctor Strange in his translucent blue astral form, Brother Voodoo, mutant sorceress Magik, Asgardian goddess of death Hela and Strange’s archenemy, and ruler of the Dark Dimension, Dormammu. While I know fans are super excited to finally see the release of Magik in her current costume as part of the Marvel Legends toy line, I have no idea why she would be included in this set. The former New Mutant and current Cyclops ally really has nothing to do with Doctor Strange other than her mutant powers are magical in nature.

What really makes this exclusive special is its packaging! The San Diego Comic-Con 2015 Exclusive Doctor Strange Marvel Legends Action Figure Box Set comes packaged in a full color replica of the Book of Vishanti, Stephen Strange's iconic magical tome. Cannonball Marvel Comics Mini Bust by Bowen Designs

The Blot doesn’t blog about traditional statues or busts all that often, but every once in a while one catches my eye and I feel compelled to write about it. As a kid The Blot was a huge New Mutants fan and my favorite New Mutant was their leader and co-founder Sam Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball! Named for his mutant ability to fly through the air like a jet engine on fire, The Blot would pretty much buy any Marvel comic book that featured Cannonball no matter how small of a cameo it might be.

I always hoped one day Sam would graduate into the big leagues and become a full fledged member of the X-Men. I especially loved those old New Mutant issues where the team would bust out their “adult” uniforms to fill in for the X-Men when the team would go missing. Sadly, by the time Cannonball finally became a member of the main X-Men team, I had pretty much given up reading X books. Well, Cannonball is now back with his friends as a member of the New Mutants, and this new mini bust by Bowen Designs immortalizes Sam’s look as leader of the X-Men’s junior team.

The Cannonball Marvel Comics Mini Bust by Bowen Designs stands 7” tall and was sculpted by Troy McDevitt. Each mini bust retails for $80 each and is currently available for purchase from specialty stores everywhere.

NYCC 2010 Exclusive New Mutants Minimates Boxed Set

Action Figure Xpress (“AFX”) will be releasing a New York Comic-Con 2010 exclusive New Mutants boxed set based on the characters’ original look in the 1980s comic books. This NYCC exclusive box set includes New Mutants Cannonball, Susnpot, Wolfsbane and Karma.



As an added bonus, the set comes with two alternate heads of Wolfsbane and Sunspot. This way you can swap their heads out with Karma and Cannonball’s so you can have de-powered versions of Rahne and Roberto in their classic yellow and black uniforms. I don’t think I can accurately put into words how excited The Blot is for this release. The New Mutants was one of my favorite books as a kid, and for some reason action figures based on these characters’ original looks have never really been produced.



The New York Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive New Mutants Minimates Box Set by AFX will retail for around $17.00 each. If you’re unable to attend NYCC ’10 have no fear, these should be showing up on online retailers’ websites sometime soon!
