Loyal K.N.G. Chain Breakers T-Shirt Collection
For its Spring 2012 Collection, Texas indie brand Loyal K.N.G. introduced its thought provoking new line of Chain Breakers and Idea Makers designs (along with a number of its trademark pop culture inspired t-shirts). This new line is all about breaking the chains of the everyday rat race by establishing unique and groundbreaking ideas. And The Blot knows we can all relate to Loyal K.N.G.’s new motto: "Day-Time Dreamers, Late-night Hustlers." Most of us toil away at our 9-5 jobs while daydreaming about our true passions (whatever they may be).
Loyal K.N.G.’s Spring 2012 Collection also includes some fun pop culture t-shirts like the Speed Racer inspired “Big Speed” and the New Era tribute “Authentic Loyal K.N.G.” That last one is a t-shirt I will definitely need to get my hands on! And if you’re ever in an area where Loyal K.N.G. will be setting a booth, I highly recommend you stopping by to say hello. They’re always releasing booth exclusive t-shirts you can’t get anywhere else, and rumor has it they’ve released a new line of Atama Avengers tees (inspired by the hit Marvel movie) since the last time I’ve seen the Loyal K.N.G. crew.
All of the Loyal K.N.G. t-shirts seen here and so much more are available for sale through the Loyal K.N.G. online store. Each t-shirt design retail for $30 and come in a variety of colors and sizes (XS-XXL).

AT-AT Pop Culture Inspired Star Wars T-Shirts By SevenHundred
May the Fourth be with you! It’s Star Wars Day today, and to get in on the fun The Blot wanted to make sure I blogged about some cool Star Wars inspired gear. And what’s better than these amazing AT-AT pop culture designs by UK artist SevenHundred!?! SevenHundred has combined some of the best vehicles from television and movies with the dreaded imperial AT-AT to create some seriously fun t-shirt designs.
These “Restyled AT-ATs” include a little bit of everything, from Doctor Who and TRON to He-Man and TMNT. There’s even Akira, Jurrasic Park and a Coca-Cola AT-AT! SevenHundred really knocked it out of the park with this set of designs. I’m hard pressed to think of a pop culture vehicle I’d like to see included here.
What’s really great about all of these “Restyled AT-AT” designs by SevenHundred is that they’re all available for purchase through SevenHundred’s Red Bubble online store! That means you can completely customize your purchase, including the style (long sleeve, v-neck, crew, etc.), size and color. And make sure you check out SevenHundred’s entire Red Bubble portfolio to see even more killer pop culture inspired designs.

Threadless - "It Would Have Been Cooler As A Van" Pop Culture Themed T-Shirt
While I don’t usually blog during the day, when I went to check out Threadless’ Hallow-Tees $10 sale I knew I’d have to write about this shirt. To be honest, I totally skipped over the “It Would Have Been Cooler as a Van” t-shirt at first glance. Thankfully, I went back to take a second look and was totally floored by what I saw. Basically, “It Would Have Been Cooler as a Van” re-imagines some of pop culture’s most well known vehicles as vans! This has got to be one of the coolest Threadless tees ever!

Like most pop art, the design isn’t overly complex. It’s just a fun idea that anyone could have come up with but didn’t! I’ve gotta give some serious props to artist Brandon Ortwein for following through on this one. The shirt features 21 pop icons from television and movies; some are animated while others have been in comic books and on the silver screen. Can you identify them all!?!
I’ve been able to identify a good chunk of these, but even The Blot can’t get them all. The top two rows are pretty obvious; you’ve got Back to the Future’s time traveling DeLorean, The Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1, the Dukes of Hazzard’s General Lee, Optimus Prime from Transformers, The Griswolds’ family station wagon from Vacation, and Speed Racer’s Mach 5. There are also shout-outs to Thomas the Tank Engine, The Blues Brothers, Grease, Maximum Overdrive and Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure included on this shirt. If you there are any you aren’t sure of, head here to see the shirt’s key.
The “It Would Have Been Cooler as a Van” t-shirt is currently on sale for $10 (regular price $18) on Threadless.com and comes in both guys and girls style tees.

Go Speed Racer Go!

Speed Racer was one of those Japanese animated shows that I never quite got into, but as a little kid typically watched whenever it was on. Maybe I was just drawn to Speed’s “hip” red scarf or maybe it was all the misadventures of Speed’s little brother Spritle and his pet Chim-Chim (what kind of name is Spritle anyway?). Who knows, what I do know is the one character I liked the most, Racer X, was never in the show near enough. If I had my way Speed Racer the movie would be all about our mysterious masked racer who has a secret connection to the movie’s racing hero, Speed.

I was pretty worried when I heard they were adapting this historic Japanese cartoon into a live action movie until I found out who was writing/directing it, The Wachowski Brothers. Andy and Larry Wachowski, the brains behind The Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta, are evidently huge fans of the 1960’s cartoon and I think combining that passion for the project with their eye for revolutionary special effects should produce a pretty awesome movie that is very faithful to the original.

Speed Racer stars Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer, Susan Sarandon as Mom Racer, John Goodman as Pops Racer, Christina Ricci as Trixie and Matthew Fox as Racer X. This first ever live action version of Speed Racer will hit theaters on May 9, 2008 and will be simultaneously released in IMAX theaters nationwide.
