Batman Karakuri Custom Figure by D-Lux

“Guano Man” Karakuri Batman Custom Vinyl Figure by D-Lux

After releasing a killer series of Joker Karakuri just a few weeks ago, D-Lux dropped a second surprise comic book inspired release on Monday. This time D-Lux channeled his inner Dark Knight to create a series of “Guano Man” Karakuri custom vinyl figures. Sporting a black cowl and yellow utility belt, Guano Man is ready to stop crime and protect your toys! Limited to just 3 pieces, there is still at least one of D-Lux’ fun Batman Karas still available through his online store for $50.

DCon 2012 Exclusive The MAXXakuri by Nebulon5

Designer Con 2012 Exclusive The MAXXakuri Custom Vinyl Figure Series by Nebulon5

For Designer Con 2012, Nebulon5 has created a killer set of The Maxxakuri custom figures. Utilizing Grody Shogun’s Karakuri, this purple and yellow color scheme pays tribute to one of the coolest comic book characters ever…Sam Kieth’s The Maxx! Everyone who grew up in the 90’s either read Kieth’s hit comic book series from Image or watched the animated television series on MTV (or, most likely, did both). The Blot loves comic book inspired colorways, and Neb did a fantastic job recreating The Maxx’ look and feel on these 4” Karas. I’ve got a sinking suspicious these are going to go quickly at DCon.

The Designer Con 2012 Exclusive The MAXXakuri by Nebulon5 has a limited edition run size of just 5 pieces, and will be sold exclusively at Spanky Stokes’ DCon booth.

The Joker Karakuri Custom Figure by D-Lux

“The Jerk!” Karakuri The Joker Custom Vinyl Figure by D-Lux

Last weekend D-Lux announced a surprise custom run of Grody Shogun Karakuri vinyl figures entitled “The Jerk!” Is it just me or does The Jerk bare an uncanny resemblance to the Clown Prince of Crime!?! The Blot loves super hero inspired colorways and this Kara looks pretty spot on to The Joker. I just wish I could have grabbed one, as all three The Jerk custom figures ($50) sold out instantly upon release in D-Lux’ online store. A Joker Kara would go great next to my Batman Custom Monster by Grody Shogun.

Arctic and Atomic Ojisan/Karakuri Series by D-Lux

Arctic and Atomic Ojisan & Karakuri Series by D-Lux

If you’re still not familiar with D-Lux’ work yet, you should be! The Detroit artist is doing some incredible things with an airbrush, and he’s been releasing a number of highly sought after custom runs on a variety of sofubi platforms. The self proclaimed Toy Ruiner’s latest release is a blind bagged series of Arctic and Atomic hand painted custom Ojisan and Karakuri monsters. Grody Shogun’s 4” monsters are popular enough on their own, but when you add in a crazy paint job by D-Lux you’ve got an instant sell out on your hands.

D-Lux took an interesting approach to creating this Arctic and Atomic Series. Each figure was painted both internally and externally on crystal clear vinyl, giving them a pretty cool effect. Not only that but as you can tell from the photos above, the Arctic and Atomic Ojisans are very different from the Arctic and Atomic Karas. Arctic Kara is like crystallized jagged ice, while the Arctic Oji has more of a soft snowy feel to it with melted ice inside. Similarly, the Atomic Kara is like hot hunks of rock in pre molten state, while the Atomic Oji looks like molten lava from an atomic blast. It’s really amazing how D-Lux was able to use the exact same colors and paint style on two different figures and get such strikingly different results!

The Arctic and Atomic Ojisan/Karakuri Series by D-Lux went on sale last Saturday, September 8th, at the D-Lux online store for $40 each. Sold blind bag style, there were only 20 pieces created in all (5 of each figure in each colorway), and these sold out immediately upon release.
