DCon 2012 Exclusive The MAXXakuri by Nebulon5

Designer Con 2012 Exclusive The MAXXakuri Custom Vinyl Figure Series by Nebulon5

For Designer Con 2012, Nebulon5 has created a killer set of The Maxxakuri custom figures. Utilizing Grody Shogun’s Karakuri, this purple and yellow color scheme pays tribute to one of the coolest comic book characters ever…Sam Kieth’s The Maxx! Everyone who grew up in the 90’s either read Kieth’s hit comic book series from Image or watched the animated television series on MTV (or, most likely, did both). The Blot loves comic book inspired colorways, and Neb did a fantastic job recreating The Maxx’ look and feel on these 4” Karas. I’ve got a sinking suspicious these are going to go quickly at DCon.

The Designer Con 2012 Exclusive The MAXXakuri by Nebulon5 has a limited edition run size of just 5 pieces, and will be sold exclusively at Spanky Stokes’ DCon booth.

Batman: Black & White Statue by Sam Kieth

DC Direct - Batman: Black & White Statue by Sam Kieth

While DC Direct’s line of Batman: Black and White statues are incredibly popular, The Blot’s never been all that into them. Then again, there’s never been a Batman: Black and White statue designed by Sam Kieth before! I’m a sucker for all things Sam Kieth, and this statue is crazy good. I love how sculptor Jonathan Matthews was able to so perfectly capture Kieth’s brilliantly twisted drawing of Batman into a fully fleshed out 3D statue.

DC Direct - Batman: Black & White Statue by Sam Kieth

The Batman: Black and White statue by Sam Kieth measures 5.5" high x 6" wide x 5" deep, and matches the previous figures in this series with its moody, monochromatic color scheme. Collectors can purchase one of these beautiful statues for $80 beginning March 21, 2012.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 Variant Cover by Sam Kieth

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue #1 Variant Cover by Sam Kieth

Did you know IDW was launching a brand new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series today? Neither did The Blot! Talk about someone at IDW not doing their job (there’s not even a mention of the new series on their homepage). This is exciting news because it marks the first TMNT comic book series since Mirage sold its rights to the franchise to Nickelodeon. But what this ownership change means for the comic book series is anyone’s guess. The original Mirage series is one of my all time favorite comic book series and the TMNT franchise played a huge role in my childhood. Because of this, I’m always down to give a new TMNT release a shot whether it be a new toy line, comics, an animated series or a movie.

While I really don’t know much about this new comic book series, what has me really excited for its release today is issue #1’s beautiful variant cover by Sam Kieth! I absolutely love Kieth’s artwork, and this cover does a great job showcasing all aspects of his unique style, including its humorous side. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 variant cover by Sam Kieth is an incentive copy, which means for every 25 books a store purchases the retailer receives one copy of the issue with the Kieth cover (so good luck getting your hands on one!).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue #1 hits stands today, Wednesday, August 24th. This 32 page full color book was co-written by TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, features artwork by Dan Duncan, and will retail for $3.99.

Shocker Toys has began unveiling their summer convention exclusives this week, and so far they look pretty awesome! Up first is the one figure fans have been asking for above all others, a Mallows vinyl figure of The Maxx. Fans have been demanding more figures based on the popular Sam Kieth comic book from Image Comics, and Shocker Toys has delivered the goods.

The Maxx Limited Edition SDCC Vinyl Mini Action Figure

San Diego Comic-Con International logoAt the height of the comic book craze of the early to mid 90’s, Sam Kieth’s The Maxx was one of the best comics published by the newly created Image Comics. The bizarre world of The Maxx grew when Kieth joined forces with MTV to create the now classic The Maxx cartoon in 1995. Shocker Toys, which recently started producing a line of indie comic book character action figures, has produced an all new limited edition San Diego Comic Con 2008 exclusive mini Maxx vinyl action figure with 4 points of articulation.

The Maxx San Diego Comic Con 2008 Limited Edition Mini Vinyl Action Figure
The limited edition SDCC ’08 mini Maxx vinyl action figure is limited to 500 pieces and can be purchased at Shocker Toys’ San Diego Comic Con booth #3948 for $30.00. If you can’t make it to California for the big convention, a limited amount of mini Maxx figures are available now at the Shocker Toys online store.
