Kidrobot's Dunny Series 2012 Full Reveal!

Kidrobot Dunny Series 2012 - Pac23, MAD, Triclops Studio, Kronk, Nakanari & Attaboy

Kidrobot has given us the full reveal of its upcoming Dunny Series 2012 and man does it look incredible! For the past few months KR has done a great job pushing its Dunny platform in directions with both its 8” and special 3” releases. But this is the first time I’ve seen a full artist series with this many unique sculpts and accessories. I have to give Kidrobot’s it’s due…I’ve been asking for more from their Dunny releases and with Series 2012 they deliver! Plus there’s a freaking Sucklord Dunny!

Kidrobot Dunny Series 2012 - Andrew Bell

Kidrobot Dunny Series 2012 - Junko Mizuno

Kidrobot’s Dunny Series 2012 features 20 designs by 14 artists, including seasoned Dunny masters mixed in with some fresh blood. Each artist has created characters that push Dunny into new worlds with new sculpts, new uses of the Dunny platform, new treatments, and new plans. A more colorful mix than you would find in the Mos Eisley Cantina, each figure is its own species – an ambassador to the mind of its creator. If you are one of the lucky few to see them all together, you will find a window into what whimsy and wickedness lies under the creative rocks found in the far away corners of the Dunny galaxy.

Best of all, collectors can get their hands on an exclusive Dunny by the Sucklord with the purchase of a case pack at select retail locations (while supplies last). DS2012 goes on sale Thursday, June 21st, at Kidrobot stores, Kidrobot.com, and select retailers worldwide for $9.95 per blind box.

Leaked: Dunny Series 2012 Checklist & Ratios

Dunny Series 2012 Checklist and Ratios

Yesterday, the world of designer art toys got its very first look at Kidrobot’s upcoming Dunny Series 2012!!! Thanks to Spanky Stokes and Trampt for the image above! Whenever a leak of this magnitude happens it seems to really get collectors talking, and all in all it seems like fans are really happy with the artist line-up and their designs. The Blot is especially thrilled to see KR continue its trend of including popular artists who have never designed a Dunny before in their trademark 3” blind box series. Names like Scribe, Jon-Paul Kaiser, Jeremiah Ketner, Sergio Mancini and Nakanari have me super excited for this release!

I’m also pretty pumped to see MAD's Vandal design was chosen for this series (originally seen here back in 2009). This is a great reminder to all the artists out there that even if your design isn’t picked when it’s first submitted, there’s always a chance it gets chosen a few series down the line.

Dunny Series 2012 includes designs by MAD, Junko Mizuno, Kronk, Tara McPherson, Scribe, Andrew Bell, Jon-Paul Kaiser, Triclops Studio, Jeremiah Ketner, Attaboy, Pac23, Sergio Mancini, Nakanari, and Mauro Gatti.

René London 8” Dunny by Triclops Studio

Kidrobot - René London 8” Dunny by Triclops Studio

This is not a Dunny, or is it? UK art studio Triclops paints Kidrobot’s Dunny platform with their version of the surrealist brush! Inspired by witty and thought-provoking Belgian artist René Magritte, Triclops plays with reality and illusion by interpreting Magritte’s own self portrait. Its transparent blue vinyl head bears a wandering set of clouds on the back and painted green apple obscuring the face. On the back of the Londoner’s dark suit it is written “Ceci n’est pas une Dunny,” challenging observers’ perceptions of reality… much like Magritte’s Treachery of Images painting where he states in French, “This is not a pipe.”

Kidrobot - René London 8” Dunny by Triclops Studio

Again we get a design which made its original debut on a Kidrobot t-shirt. Is this their way of circumventing leaks? While I like the idea behind this 8 inch Dunny, these photos really don’t have The Blot excited for its release. It just seems kind of flat to me. And without knowledge of the artist and painting it pays homage to, it might come off as dull to many casual observers. Then again, who isn’t familiar with at least one of Magritte’s surrealistic paintings?

This illusory vinyl figure comes accessorized with a black bowler, umbrella, and a pipe to complete his distinguished air. The René London 8” Dunny by Triclops Stuido arrives in Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com and specialty retailers on August 18th for $75 each and has a limited edition run size of 1,000 pieces.

Rene Condon 8 Inch Dunny Concept Artwork by Triclops Studio

Kidrobot - Rene Condon 8 Inch Dunny by Triclops Studio

As I said earlier today, The Blot has a strict “no leaking” policy. But when something has already been leaked by a third party, it seems a shame not to share it here. So check out one of Kidrobot’s worst kept secrets, the new Rene Condon 8” Dunny by Triclops Studio!

We originally saw this design in a t-shirt released by Kidrobot months ago, and I have to say it’s a really strange practice to be releasing new figures as t-shirts before the actual figures have even been announced. This has been a pretty standard practice for KR since at least the Dunny Black & White Series and I have to wonder why they wouldn’t just go ahead and announce the toy’s release if they’re going to spoil it themselves with a t-shirt. More details to come once they are officially announced by Kidrobot!

SDCC Sneak Peek - Kidrobot Dunny Series 2010

Kidrobot had seven different figures from their upcoming Dunny Series 2010 on display at San Diego Comic-Con 2010, and they look even better in 3D than they did as drawings on the previously leaked checklist. Included in the display were designs by MAD, Frank Kozik, Jesse Hernandez, MCA, Triclops, Damarak the Destroyer and Amanda Visell.

Kidrobot’s Dunny Series 2010 drops on August 19, but be on the lookout for news from the designer toy company about Dunny Series 2010 contests, parties and more starting August 1st.

Disney x MINDstyle Experiment 626 Stitch Artist Series 2

The Blot loves MINDstyle’s 5 inch Experiment 626 Stitch vinyl figures, so I was really excited to find out yesterday they will be collaborating with Disney yet again on an all new wave of Stitch figures. Experiment 626 Stitch Artist Series 2 features some amazing artists, including Triclops Studio, Camilla d’Errico, Scribe, Mad Barbarians, Voltaire, and Devil Robots.

Disney x MINDstyle Stitch Experiment 626 Artist Series 2 - Devil Robots Stitch
Disney x MINDstyle Stitch Experiment 626 Artist Series 2 - Scribe Stitch
Disney x MINDstyle Stitch Experiment 626 Artist Series 2 - Mad Barbarians Stitch
The Blot’s a huge hamburger nut, so you know I’m going to have to get the burger inspired Mad Barbarians Stitch. But the figure I’m really looking forward to is Scribe’s. Everything the Kansas City artist has released this year has been amazing, and his Stitch is no exception. And don’t even get me started on on d’Errico’s Stitch! I think it’s the most detailed paint job on any of the mass produced Stitches so far. With that being said, I have a feeling the Devil Robots Stitch or Scribe Stitch will be this series’ Angry Woebots (meaning impossible to get your hands on!).

Disney x MINDstyle Stitch Experiment 626 Artist Series 2 - Camilla d'Errico Stitch
Disney x MINDstyle Stitch Experiment 626 Artist Series 2 - Voltaire Stitch
Disney x MINDstyle Stitch Experiment 626 Artist Series 2 - Triclops Studio Stitch
Each Disney x MINDstyle Experiment 626 Stitch Artist Series 2 5" vinyl figure will have a limited run of just 500 pieces and will retail for around $25-30.
