Freddy Funko Pop! Vinyl Figure

Funko fans were given an extra special treat at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 when Funko unveiled the Freddy Funko Pop vinyl figure! Freddy is Funko’s popular mascot and fans have been wondering since the Pop toy line started if we’d ever see a true Freddy figure. For the past few years Funko has released “Freddy” versions of previously released figures at Funko Fundays (which takes place at SDCC each year), where they replace a popular character's standard head with that of Freddy. Then at Fundays 2012 Funko dropped the figure we’ve all been waiting for, an official Freddy Pop!

If you’re wondering why The Blot is a little slow to blog about this one, I was waiting to see if the figure would get a wider release. Unfortunately, it looks like this one is pretty rare and your best bet is heading over to Gemini Collectibles where you can purchase the “Red Tie” Freddy Funko Pop! vinyl figure for around $100. At that price it’s unlike The Blot will be adding one to his collection any time soon. 

To date there have been four official Freddy Funko Pop! colorways release, and we have a picture of all four thanks to Funko Funatic board member Justicewarrior88! There’s the “Blue Tie” Freddy Funko with a limited edition run size of 500 pieces, the San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive “Red Tie” Freddy Funko with a limited edition run size of 96 pieces, the Fundays 2012 Exclusive Black and White Freddy Funko with a limited edition run size of just 48 pieces, and the 2012 Funatic Days Out Pink Hair Freddy limited to 96 pieces.

SDCC 2012 Exclusive Sky Wok-R Star Wars Resin Figure by Dez Einswell

The Blot was so bummed that I didn’t find out about this awesome Star Wars released until after it sold out at San Diego Comic-2012. Sculpted by J*RYU, Dez Einswell’s 8” Sky Wok-R is straight up fire! I love seeing one of Dez’ signature characters rocking a Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot paint job. And what really ties this design together for me is how Dez transformed the Wok-R’s seatback into R2-D2. For all of us that missed out on the original release, rumor has it Dez will be releasing the Sky Wok-R print seen above sometime soon at DoodleBarn.com.

SDCC 2012 Exclusive Marvel Movie Pop! Metallic Vinyl Figures - Spider-Man & Loki

Two of The Blot’s favorite San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusives from Funko this year were their Marvel Movie Pop! Metallic Vinyl Figures! For SDCC, they released a metallic Spidey sporting his costume from the hit movie The Amazing Spider-Man, and a metallic Loki from The Avengers. I know lots of Funko collectors were excited about this latter release because the standard Loki (from Marvel’s Thor) has quickly become one of the hardest Pop! figures to find.

SDCC 2012 Exclusive Big Bang Theory Sheldon Pop! Vinyl Figures - Batman, Superman & Hawkman

Usually The Blot takes holidays off from blogging, but I thought I’d use today to catch up on some releases I missed out on earlier this summer due to some traveling. First up are these awesome San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive The Big Bang Theory Sheldon Pop! Television vinyl figures from Funko! Three different t-shirt variants were released, each featuring the logo of a different DC Comics super hero: Batman, Superman and Hawkman!

All three versions were sold exclusively at Comic-Con, but now you can pick up these three Sheldon Cooper The Big Bang Theory Pop! Television exclusives at Entertainment Earth for just $14.99 here! Target T-Shirt by Luke Chueh

To celebrate the release of Luke Chueh's San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive Red Target vinyl figure, Munky King also released at SDCC this limited edition t-shirt emblazoned with Luke’s signature Target graphic. There are only a handful still available after Comic-Con, so act quickly if you want to rep Luke in your hood! SDCC 12 Recap: Guardians of the Galaxy Movie News!

Of all the really big announcements out of San Diego Comic-Con 2012, the only one that really got The Blot excited was Marvel’s confirmation of a Guardians of the Galaxy live action film in 2014! Not only that, but it would feature the modern version of the team that formed in 2008. In the past 5-10 years there have only two Marvel comic books I have read on a consistent basis, Peter David’s X-Factor and Guardians of the Galaxy. Both teams feature a huge cast of B, C and D-list characters that normally wouldn’t get their own books, but for some reason as a team they just click.

So obviously when rumors started swirling earlier this summer that Marvel would be releasing a GotG film, The Blot’s ears perked up! Created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, this version of the Guardians of the Galaxy came together as a space-age dirty dozen who took on impossible tasks during two intergalactic wars and took on heavy casualties. What emerged were the Guardians of the Galaxy! They’ve had up to 13 members at once, but the film will be focusing on the team’s primary five members: Star-Lord (Peter Quill), Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Groot!

That gives us two green aliens, a humanoid raccoon and a tree like creature that speaks only its name “Groot!” Not exactly a made of the movies roster, but trust me it’s going to be awesome with lots and lots of fighting! Just check out the concept artwork for the team above. While we still don’t know anything about the film, I’d be willing to be the movie’s big bad is the mad Titan himself, Thanos! I’m just hoping we get cameos by Nova and Adam Warlock at some point.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to invade theaters everywhere on August 1, 2014.

First Look: SDCC 12 Exclusive GID Tuco Edition Skullslinger by Huck Gee

Kidrobot saved its most hotly anticipated San Diego Comic-Con 2012 exclusive for Saturday, the con’s busiest day (if that’s even possible). Huck Gee was on hand for the release his newest vinyl figure, the 11” Skullslinger! Seen previously in an art print by Huck, this glow in the dark figure translated perfectly to vinyl. My only question is when is the next colorway being released so the rest of us can get our hands on this fun new figure?

Tuco crashes through a window, covered in the blood of two men. Ruthless and winged, this 11 inch vinyl Skullslinger is tall, dark, and deadly. Constantly confronted with death, Tuco walks the edge, always one foot from the grave. One of my favorite unannounced San Diego Comic-Con exclusives of 2012 is this patina finish Batman The Dark Knight Rises Pop! vinyl figure by Funko. Funko did a great job with this Batman variant, it really does look like a tarnished bronze figure. I’m a sucker for DC Comics Pop! figures, and while I’m not a huge fan of movie figures, I had to pick this one up. This makes it the third year in a row I purchased a SDCC 2012 Exclusive DC Universe Pop! from Funko.

SDCC 12 Exclusive Sulley Color Studies from The Art of Pixar Disney Blox Vinyl Figures by Funko

We’re halfway done with San Diego Comic-Con 2012, but there are still more great exclusives to highlight here on TheBlotSays.com! How about these cool Monsters, Inc. Sullivan Disney Blox vinyl figures by Funko. Each colorway is based on Sulley color studies from The Art of Pixar book. I actually like these color combos and I know all of the diehard Disney/Pixar fans out there will definitely want to get their hands on these.

SDCC 12 Exclusive “Defective Comics” Batman Screen Print Set by Olly Moss x Daniel Danger

Now The Blot doesn’t know all that much about these “Defective Comics” screen prints released by Olly Moss and Daniel Danger at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, but I love them nevertheless! Each print features a silhouette of the Dark Knight atop an all too familiar location: Pizza Hut and Jiffy Lube. Not exactly typical locations for Batman to be hunting his prey, but they make for excellent images from the king of screen prints. These sold out instantly this morning when they went on sale at Kevin Tong’s SDCC booth, but head to eBay where I’m sure you’ll be able to find more than a few up for sale at ridiculous prices.

SDCC 12 Exclusive LEGO Lord of the Rings Screen Print by Kevin Tong

One print The Blot never saw coming from Mondo at San Diego Comic-Con was this LEGO Lord of the Rings screen print by Kevin Tong. LEGO’s giving its new line of LotR sets a huge push this summer (I guess to coincide with the soon to be released Hobbit movies?), and they look really nice and detailed. They’ll fit right in besides LEGO’s complicated Harry Potter and Star Wars sets. But these Lord of Rings LEGO sets now have something no other LEGO sets have ever had before…a screen print by the talented Tong! Sadly, this print sold out almost as instantly as it went on sale earlier this afternoon.

SDCC 12 Exclusive Adventure Time “Finn” Screen Print by Olly Moss

Oh to be at San Diego Comic-Con! We’re only two days in and Mondo has been absolutely dominating the convention. Every day they’ve released multiple epic pop culture inspired screen prints covering everything from comic books, cartoons, movies and television shows. For instance, earlier today they released this fun Adventure Time print by Olly Moss entitled “Finn.” I guess one of these days I need to sit down and actually watch an episode of Adventure Time.

First Look: SDCC 12 Exclusive Mahakala 8” Dunny by Andrew Bell

Today at San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Kidrobot released what can only be assumed is the first colorway of Andrew Bell’s 8” Mahakala Dunny, and thanks to Kidrobot’s Instagram account we have our first look at this intricate figure! Is it just me or is this guy even cooler than Series 2012’s 3” Mahakalas (and those were pretty amazing in their own right). I love the color scheme of this figure, the 3” Dunny heads around its neck, and of course its spear accessory! And don’t even get me started on the four arms and Bell’s killer artwork on the packaging. If you were lucky enough to scoop up this SDCC 2012 exclusives earlier today The Blot congratulates you as this will make a great addition to anyone’s collection.

Dunny-sattvas take wrathful form when a gentler approach is not effective. Seemingly demonic, the Mahākāla deity is a stern protector. Every year The Blot really looks forward to seeing what cool design the folks at PopFun use for their San Diego Comic-Con exclusive ‘Toon Tumbler, and they definitely didn’t let me down! PopFun has teamed up with DC Comics to release a Batman The Dark Knight Returns ‘Toon Tumbler featuring the not so distant future's grizzled, old Batman and everyone's second favorite female Robin, Carrie Kelly. Is this a glass you’d want to drink a cold beer out of or what!?!

SDCC 12 Exclusive Doctor Who Fourth Doctor Bobble Head

And who better to spotlight for its first release than everyone’s favorite scarf wearing Doctor, Tom Baker (aka the Fourth Doctor). SDCC 12 Exclusive Marvel & DC Universe LEGO Mini Figures

Once again LEGO will be at San Diego Comic-Con giving away FREE mini figures!!!! This year, however, it’ll be super hero and villain mini figures from both the Marvel and DC Comics universes! Today (while supplies last) LEGO will be giving away 1,000 mini figures of Marvel’s Phoenix and Venom, and DC’s Shazam (the former Captain Marvel) and Bizarro. All four figures look great, and these are going to FAST!

I think it’s great LEGO does this every year at SDCC now, but this last bit of news is kind of annoying due to how rare these figures are (and how expensive they will be on the secondary market). According to LEGO, these figures will not be included in any future sets. Now does that mean we won’t ever see a Jean Grey as the Dark Phoenix mini figure down the road? Probably not, but if you do want a “good” Phoenix or a Shazam LEGO mini figure then you’d better get in touch with someone at Comic-Con STAT! Speaking of which, if anyone grabs an extra Shazam/Captain Marvel LEGO mini figure…hook a brother up!
