Astro-Zombies Exclusive Clear Blue Tick Action Figure by Shocker Toys

So apparently there is an uber-rare fourth The Tick Indie Spotlight action figure from Shocker Toys that not many fans know about. It is a clear blue version of The Tick, which can be purchased exclusively from the Albuquerque comic books store Astro-Zombies. I’m not sure if there is any type of significance to this clear blue colorway, but the transparent Tick action figure does look pretty cool.

Another one of Shocker Toys’ four convention exclusive Indie Spotlight action figures is the Barry Hubris (from The Tick) action figure. Barry Hubris is a wannabe superhero who fought crime as the Tick, but not THE Tick. Once Barry realizes he is actually the 2nd Tick, he turns to a life of crime hell-bent on destroying the Tick we all know and love.

SDCC 2010 Exclusive The Blank (from Dick Tracy) Action Figure by Shocker Toys

This year, Shocker Toys is releasing four different convention exclusive Indie Spotlight action figures. One of my favorite of these exclusives is the San Diego Comic-Con 2010 exclusive The Blank action figure. The Blank (also known as Faceless Redrum) is a member of Dick Tracy’s rogues gallery who wears a blank face mask to hide his identity…just picture DC Comics’ The Question as a bad guy!

SDCC 2010 Exclusive Golden Age The Blue Beetle (Dan Garret) Action Figure by Shocker Toys

Shocker Toys’ first big San Diego Comic-Con 2010 exclusive is an Indie Spotlight action figure of the Golden Age Blue Beetle Dan Garret (with one T). For the longest time I couldn’t figure out how the Golden Age Blue Beetle had fallen into the public domain, until it was explained that there are two Golden Age Blue Beetles, Dan Garret and Dan Garrett. That extra “T” and the lack of a red fin on his head makes all the difference!

Shocker Toys has began unveiling their summer convention exclusives this week, and so far they look pretty awesome! Mighty Muggs vs. Mez-Itz vs. Mallow

The Blot has no idea if a post like this has already been done online or not, but I thought it would be helpful to both comic book fans and designer toy collectors. Since more and more toy companies are jumping into the comic book themed designer vinyl toy market, I wanted to compare the three main toy lines currently being produced: Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs, Mezco ToyzMez-Itz and Shocker Toys’ Mallows, especially since Hasbro has decided to cut back on its production of Mighty Muggs.

Mighty Muggs vs. Mez-Itz vs. Mallow Vinyl Figures Front View
I figured this would be especially helpful to collectors who have never seen the Mez-Itz or Mallow figures in person, since both lines are currently for sale exclusively online (Hellboy Mez-Itz will go on sale at Toys R Us at some point). Because you can’t just go to a retail location to see what these new figures look like, I’ve taken a few pics of my SDCC exclusive Hellboy Mez-Itz and my SDCC exclusive SDCC Logo Mallow next to a Boba Fett Mighty Mugg for comparison. Hopefully this will give you a better idea of the size and look of these two new platforms.

Hellboy Mez-Itz vs. Boba Fett Mighty Muggs Vinyl Figures Side View
I really had no idea what to expect when I first heard about these two new platforms, but I have been really happy with both of my purchases. If I had to choose, I would say Mez-Itz is the heir apparent to the reasonably priced, mass produced super hero themed Mighty Muggs vinyl figure toy line. While the figure’s body and arms are considerably smaller than those of Mighty Muggs, they are the same height and have the same feel as Hasbro’s figures. But, Mez-Itz figures have more articulation than Mighty Muggs and have a much more detailed paint job and sculpt. Keep in mind, Mezco will probably never have the types of licensing deals Hasbro has, so it’s really a tossup between which toy line is better.

Hellboy Mez-Itz vs. Boba Fett Mighty Muggs Vinyl Figures Front View
As for Mallows, they may have an edge on the Mez-Itz platform when it comes to customizing because of its larger head and wider body. If you’re used to working with Mighty Muggs, Mallow’s larger head and torso will make for an easy transition. The only drawback is that because of its highly articulated arms and legs, you lose a lot of good surface area to paint details on the figure’s extremities. Mallows are also an inch shorter than Mighty Muggs and Mez-itz figures, and also feel a lot lighter. They appear to be made from a lighter grade of plastic, and that gives off a more fragile feel. But that could just be from the figure's highly articulated design. Overall, Mallows do look and feel like much smaller figures compared to Mighty Muggs and Mez-Itz figures.

Mighty Muggs vs. Mez-Itz vs. Mallow Vinyl Figures Back View
I will always have a special place in my heart for Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs, but I’ve been trying to prepare myself for the line’s ultimate demise. If that ever does happen, I think both Mez-Itz and Mallows are great toy lines for both collectors and customizers. I do think the Mez-Itz figures have more to offer though, and from a purely collector’s point of view, I love all of the killer accessories Mez-Itz figures come with. If you have any questions or want additional pictures, please let The Blot know!

Shocker Toys - SDCC 09 Exclusive San Diego Comic Con Logo Mallow Vinyl Figure

The third and final 2009 San Diego Comic Con exclusive 5 inch Mallow from Shocker Toys is the SDCC Art Mallow, and from its picture below it just looks like a guy wearing a San Diego Comic Con logo t-shirt.

Shocker Toys - San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive SDCC Art Mallow Vinyl Figure
While this Mallow is not a previously existing character (unlike the other two 2009 SDCC exclusive limited edition Mallows), it is the rarest of the bunch with only 250 of these SDCC Art Mallow figures being produced.

Shocker Toys - SDCC 2009 Exclusive San Diego Comic Con Logo Mallow Vinyl Figure
The San Diego Comic Con Logo Mallow will also be the hardest Mallow for collectors to get their hands on since it will only be available in San Diego at the Con. The price for the SDCC Art Mallow is unknown at this time, but if you'd like to pre-order the other two SDCC exclusives head over to the Shocker Toys online store.

Shocker Toys - SDCC 09 Exclusive Dr. Rockzo Metalocalypse Mallow Vinyl Figure

The second 2009 San Diego Comic Con exclusive 5 inch Mallow from Shocker Toys should make all the [adult swim] fans out there very happy! From the animated television series Metalocalypse comes a Mallow of everyone’s favorite rock ‘n roll clown, Dr. Rockzo.

Shocker Toys - San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive Dr. Rockzo Metalocalypse Mallow Vinyl Figure
While The Blot would prefer a full set of Dethklok Mallow figures, Dr. Rockzo is probably the next best thing. I love how spot on the figure’s look is to the animated character, and they did a great job getting Rockzo's colors just right.

Shocker Toys - San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive Dr. Rockso Mallow Vinyl Figure
The SDCC 09 exclusive Dr. Rockzo Mallow is limited to just 500 pieces and can be purchased either at Comic Con or pre-ordered (by both SDCC attendees and non-attendees) now at the Shocker Toys online store. Shocker Toys - SDCC 09 Exclusive The Phantom Mallow Vinyl Figure

Even though today is Mallow day here at The Blot Says…, I still don’t know all that much about Shocker Toys’ new line of 5 inch designer vinyl figures. Shocker Toys will be unveiling its latest toy line at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con by releasing three different Mallow SDCC exclusives. The SDCC exclusive The Blot is most excited about is the Phantom Mallow based on the legendary comic strip adventurer created by Lee Falk.

Shocker Toys - San Diego Comic Con 2009 Exclusive The Phantom Mallow Vinyl Figure
I’ve been a huge fan of “The Ghost Who Walks” ever since I was a little kid, and I can still remember watching him on TV in the short lived 80's cartoon Defenders of the Earth.

Shocker Toys - Mallow Vinyl Figures

Not to be left out of the growing designer vinyl toy market, Shocker Toys, creator of the Indie Spotlight comic book action figure toy line, has created its own line of designer vinyl figures called Mallows. Mallows are a new 5 inch marshmallow themed figure featuring up to 10 points of articulation and up to 7 interchangeable parts with an oversized removable head. You can see what a Blank Do-It-Yourself Mallow looks like in the picture below:

Shocker Toys - Blank DIY Mallow Vinyl Figure
Similar to Mighty Muggs and Mez-Itz in size, Mallows will feature a whole slew of different licensed characters on this new, interesting looking platform. Along with producing Mallow versions of the comic book characters that make up their Indie Spotlight toy line, Shocker Toys will also be releasing Mallow vinyl figures based on American Greetings characters such as Sushi Pack, Madballs and My Pet Monster. Collectors and artists can purchase the D-I-Y white Mallow seen above at the Shocker Toys online store for $13 each.

What’s most exciting about Shocker Toys’ new Mallow toy line is that it will be launching at this year’s San Diego Comic Con! Shocker Toys has three different SDCC 2009 exclusives lined up for this summer’s Con, and The Blot will be featuring each and every one of them here today at The Blot Says… So check back in later today to find out more!
