The Green Hornet & Kato 100% Be@rbrick 2-Pack by Medicom

The Blot never understands releases like this. Why wait to release a movie tie-in four months AFTER the film has already left theaters? While this Green Hornet 100% Be@rbrick Set looks cool, I can’t imagine demand is high after the film (directed by Michel Gondry and starring Seth Rogen) came and went without much of a bang. The Green Hornet was destined to bomb from the start, and while it pulled in decent numbers at the box office, will anyone remember it a few months from now? Well now you can immortalize this forgettable film with 100% Be@rbricks of The Green Hornet and his faithful assistant and valet Kato.

The Green Hornet and Kato 100% Be@rbrick Set will retail for $20 each and will go on sale on May 21, 2011. Unfortunately, this will be a Medicom Project 1/6 Exclusive, available online and at Rakuten in Japan. While I haven’t been able to get confirmation, I assume this means The Green Hornet 100% Be@rbrick Set will be a Japan exclusive.

Today’s the big day for fans of The Green Hornet as the live action feature film finally debuts in theaters. What’s strange is while the movie’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes keeps dropping, The Blot’s actually finding more and more favorable reviews online. Are critics being influenced by their low expectations? One notable paper is even claiming The Green Hornet will be the first big hit of 2011. Is that even possible? At least the marketing campaign for the film has been pretty good. I actually like the movie’s final one sheet, although it is a little strange that Kato is the poster's focal point instead of the Green Hornet.  I know one thing for sure, there's no way I'm seeing this move in 3D!

Lukewarm reviews for The Green Hornet are already starting to stream in, but I’m hoping these critics are not Michel Gondry fans. Could be, right? The Green Hornet is actually faring pretty well on Rotten Tomatoes (so far), where after 6 reviews the film has a fresh rating of 83%. Here’s hoping that score holds up! While the film may just be ok, The Green Hornet one sheet movie poster above is actually pretty cool. The poster features Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet and Jay Chou as Kato standing in front of the Hornet’s car, the “Black Beauty.”

The Green Hornet will premiere in theaters this Friday, January 14, 2011.

After much fanfare, The Green Hornet finally debuts in theaters this Friday, January 14th. Will it be a winter success or another super hero disaster? Only time will tell, but The Blot is secretly hoping Green Hornet does well. I’m not sure I can take another let down by Hollywood. These old school properties really deserve better! Either do them justice by staying faithful to the source material while trying to create a new franchise, or leave them alone already.

The Blot will be highlighting some of my favorite The Green Hornet one sheets, like the teaser movie poster above, as we count down to the film’s release. The Green Hornet, directed by Michel Gondry, will premiere in theaters on January 14, 2011.

Below is the new one sheet teaser movie poster for the upcoming Green Hornet feature film. Let’s be honest, this movie is going to suck. You know it, I know it, the whole world knows it! So why is The Blot still blogging about The Green Hornet? Well, because a fanboy can dream can’t he!?! I’d love nothing more than for this film to turn into a succeed franchise for Seth Rogen, but I’ve got very little faith that’s actually going to happen. What do you all think?

The Green Hornet Movie Mez-Itz Set: Green Hornet & Kato Vinyl Figures by Mezco Toyz

The Green Hornet Movie Mez-Itz Set by Mezco Toyz features two 6” vinyl figures of The Green Hornet and his faithful valet Kato. These two figures feature costumes inspired by the upcoming The Green Hornet feature film starring Seth Rogen, however I’m not quite sure they really nailed Rogen’s fro. Both figures feature five points of articulation and are individually packaged in collector friendly window boxes.


While The Green Hornet Movie Mez-Itz 2-pack is not scheduled to ship until sometime in November 2010, it is currently available for preorder through the Mezco Toyz online store for just $26.

Fanboys - New One Sheet Movie Poster

The once promising indie film Fanboys, a movie set in 1998 that tells the story of a group of friends who decide to break into Skywalker Ranch and steal an early print of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace so that a friend suffering from cancer can view the film before his death, has released an all new theatrical one-sheet movie poster that parodies the promo poster for the Judd Apatow comedy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin.


At this point, who knows if the movie will ever actually be released in theaters because its distributer, The Weinstein Company (TWC), has been consistently pushing back its release date for almost two years while trying to change everything about the film. I know Fanboys was close to being released in 2007 before TWC decided they wanted to cut the friend dying from cancer storyline and bring the entire cast back together for some serious re-shoots. When and if we ever get to see the final product is anybody’s guess, but I have read that the film in its original incarnation is every fanboys’ dream.


The film stars Kristen Bell, Jay Baruchel, Dan Fogler, Sam Huntington and Chris Marquette and has a sick list of cameos, including Kevin Smith, William Shatner, Seth Rogen, Ethan Suplee and many more familiar faces, including more former Star Wars actors than you shake a stick at. The movie was even blessed by Mr. Star Wars himself, George Lucas, and yet still The Weinstein Company refuses to release the movie. The only promising sign is the release of this new theatrical one-sheet movie poster with a very Yoda-like tag line at the bottom. One would think that if TWC is finally putting some money into marketing the film that they’re going to have to release it eventually, right?


As of now Fanboys, directed by Kyle Newman, is scheduled for a February 6, 2009 release.

New Zack and Miri Make a Porno Trailer

I can’t believe this movie is almost here. It feels like forever since our last Kevin Smith movie and The Blot is pumped for Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Smith can do no wrong in the eyes of The Blot no matter how many Jersey Girls the writer/director makes. With that being said, I have no idea how good (or not good) this movie will be, but the trailers do look pretty funny. You can check out the newest Zach and Miri Make a Porno trailer below:



I am predicting huge numbers for Smith’s latest film this Halloween weekend even with the curse of a hard to promote movie title. Regardless of the movie's subject matter, the comedy stars Hollywood’s newest leading man and one of its most bankable stars, Seth Rogen, so you know it’s going to do well in some key demographics. Plus, the Smith/Rogen team-up is sure to motivate even the biggest of slackers to head down to their local movie theater this weekend to see Zach and Miri Make a Porno. How can this movie fail!?!

The Banned Zack and Miri Make a Porno Movie Poster

At this point I think the MPAA just has it out for Kevin Smith and his newest movie, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. First they gave his movie the kiss of death by giving it an NC-17 rating, and now they’re attacking the movie’s promotional poster! The MPAA has ruled the theatrical one-sheet movie poster below is too dirty for American audiences and won’t allow its use in theaters around the U.S. (link) What’s our loss seems to be our neighbors to the north’s gain as Smith has decided the poster will still be used to promote his latest comedy throughout Canada (and probably internationally as well).


Maybe the MPAA just lives in a different world than the rest of us, but I don’t think the back of Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks’ heads is really all that dirty in the age of the internet. Let me tell you, this poster is, without a doubt, 1000% less sexually suggestive than Tuesday night’s pilot episode of 90210, and that was on network television! Thankfully, Smith has already won his appeal of the movie’s horrendous NC-17 rating and gotten Zack and Miri an R rating. (link) Hopefully this is a sign that the MPAA will come to its senses and approve the use of this movie poster before Zack and Miri Make a Porno hits theaters on October 31, 2008.

Pineapple Express Character Movie Posters - Pineapple Express In Theaters Now

I love Judd Apatow movies like The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad as much as anyone, but I didn’t become a real convert to his unique brand of comedy until I finally watched the Freaks and Geeks: The Complete Series DVD box set. Aly and I recently finished the six DVD set and it was well worth the time invested. I know people have strong feelings about this show (either loving it or hating it), but you at least have to give the short lived NBC comedy a shot.

The show does struggle to find its voice through the first few episodes, which is probably why Freaks and Geeks didn’t make it past season one, but once you get to the season’s midway point the show is pure dramedy gold. Plus, you just don’t find that kind of young A-list talent on TV anymore. Over half the cast has gone on to become either big time movie stars, like Seth Rogan and James Franco, or star in popular television series like Jason Segel on How I Met Your Mother, Linda Cardellini on ER, and Busy Philipps on Dawson’s Creek and a brief stay on ER.

I bring this all because the newest Apatow produce comedy, Pineapple Express, was written by and stars two Freaks and Geeks alumni, Apatow mainstay Seth Rogan and James Franco. While I haven’t seen it yet, the movie is supposed to be hilarious and is getting some great reviews. I really can’t wait to see it, so I imagine I’ll have to somehow pull myself away from the weekend's hundreds of hours of Olympic coverage.

I did hear the film is a lot more violent and bloody than one would expect from an Apatow produced stoner comedy, but I’m sure if it came from the minds of Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg the movie will live up to all of the hype surrounding it. Since I’m sure most of you will be seeing Pineapple Express over the weekend, I’ll stay away from discussing any of the movie’s plot. Instead I’ll just leave you with the Pineapple Express’ character movie posters.


What’s amazing about these character movie posters is how much of the movie’s marketing campaign centers around the movie’s stars, Rogen and Franco. The comedy good will Rogen has built up with the movie going public over the past few years is truly amazing. Could anyone have imagined just a few years ago that a huge summer comedy would open to big numbers based solely on Rogen’s name? It’s pretty impressive and just goes to show you how real comedy talent will always rise to the top, especially in this day and age when the comedy landscape looks as bleak as it ever has before.

The Thin Red Line Between News and Gossip

The Blot had a request a few weeks back for more posts about “rumors” as one particular reader put it. I’m assuming the Russian Space Station (as she is commonly referred to) meant gossip, but since The Blot won’t go that low here’s some recent headlines that caught my attention and maybe fall somewhere in between News, Gossip and pointless Ramblings by me.

1. Buffy No More?

Us Weekly is reporting that Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar has legally changed her name. I know this is a shocker for many because who doesn’t love the three name moniker? I tried to pull it off but “The Blot Says…” just doesn’t roll off the tongue like “The Blot” does. The story is that for her and hubby Freddie Prinze, Jr.’s fifth wedding anniversary, SMG had her last name officially changed to Prinze. No word on whether or not Gellar will use Prinze professionally or stick with her signature three part name. (Zap2it.com) Gellar’s latest movie Southland Tales, written and directed by Donnie Darko’s Richard Kelly and also staring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Seann William Scott and Justin Timberlake arrived in select theaters this past weekend.

2. Acclaimed Filmmaker Kevin Smith Finds His Leads



Variety is reporting that The Blot’s favorite writer/director and creator of all things ViewAskew (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma) Kevin Smith has cast the lead roles in his new film Zack & Miri Make A Porno. The role of Zack will be played by newly christened comedy super star Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Superbad, 40-Year-Old Virgin) and the role of Miri will be played by Elizabeth Banks (Invincible, 40-Year-Old Virgin). Smith hasn’t had much success with movies not centered in the ViewAskew universe, i.e. Jersey Girl, but hopefully this film will be able to showcase Smith’s unique style of writing and comedy genius. 3. Japan wants Panettiere…and not for a celebrity appearance.

When The Blot saw this one the first thing I thought was “What?” Evidently Heroes’ star Hayden Panettiere traveled to Japan and joined a group of Americans and Australians to protest the slaughter of Dolphins and Whales by Japanese fisherman. (Link) I’m guessing they knew they were breaking some laws because the article says they hightailed it out of Japan as soon as the protest was over. Now Japan has a warrant out for Panettiere. Normally I’d side with Panettiere and against animal cruelty but if it means getting rid of the cheerleader’s horrible storyline in Heroes this year maybe we should extradite her. HAHA, The Blot’s just kidding…but only because Heroes has gotten so much better in the last few weeks.

4. Celebrity Apprentice Contestants Announced

I, like most of America, used to love The Apprentice. Then sometime after the second season and before the end of the third season the show lost its allure. I’m not sure why exactly, it could be any number of reasons…whether I just got tired of Donald Trump, or the contestants just weren’t as appealing, or (and I think this might be the real reason) the show just got played out and was no longer original. Then again it could be because the competitions seemed to just be rehashed and the product placement became unbearable. Regardless when I heard there was going to be a celebrity edition my interest got piqued again. That is until the lineup came out.


You know a show has hit rock bottom when it’s draining the Reality TV landscape for contestants. At one time The Apprentice was on top of the Neilson ratings…that time has definitely passed us by. I don’t know if this counts as “celebrity” in your book, but bringing back first season contestant/Surreal Life cast member Omarosa just doesn’t cut it. Stephen Baldwin is kind of a name, but after seeing him embarrass himself on Celebrity Mole for a few seasons his allure is pretty tarnished too. About the only person I’m excited to see compete is former heavyweight boxing champ Lennox Lewis, who always came across as a pretty bright guy.
